Swine flu death toll rises to more!
NEW DELHI: India on the swine flu death toll has surpassed 1,800.

For swine flu in India so far 1,841 people have died since the beginning of this year. 31 thousand 156 people affected. Gujarat 400, Rajasthan 397, Maharashtra 322, MP 266, Karnataka 77, Telangana, 74, Punjab, 52 in Uttar Pradesh, 35 in West Bengal 23, Jammu and Kashmir, 16, Delhi 12 people for this disease died.

Greater number of women than men were due to swine flu. 50,35 percent of the victims were women, 49.65 per cent of men. Among the dead were 723 persons below the age of 30 to 45. 17 percent of the 18 to 30 year-olds. 12 per cent of over-60s.

Not only in the winter time, the impact will be greater than the kaycal supposed to start in summer period due to the impact of this disease receded.

Swine flu toll crosses 1,900 mark; over 32,000 affected

Swine flu claimed the lives of 16 more people as the death toll across the country crossed the 1,900 mark on Sunday while the number of those affected by the disease exceeded 32,000. According to data collated by the Union Health Ministry, as on March 21, 1,911 people have died due to the contagious disease while the number of those affected across the country stood at 32,233.

As per a Health Ministry study, 34 per cent of the 723 swine flu deaths that were analysed had occurred in the age group of 30-45 years, followed closely by those in the 45-60 bracket, who accounted for 32 per cent of the fatalities.

NEW DELHI: Swine flu claimed the lives of 21 more persons taking the toll to 1947 and the number of people affected by the H1N1 virus across the country inched towards the 33,000-mark.

According to the Health Ministry data collated as on March 23, the disease has killed 1,947 people while 32,663 persons have been affected by it across various states.

New Delhi: The deadly swine flu has claimed yet another 28 more lives as the toll inched towards the 2,000-mark while the number of persons affected by the H1N1 virus across the country touched almost 33,000.

As per data by the Union Health Ministry on on March 24, 1975 people have succumbed to the virus while the number of people affected across various states now stands at 32,995.

NEW DELHI: Swine flu deaths crossed the 2,000 figure with the contagious disease claiming 17 more lives while the number of affected people stood at 33,462.

Data collated by the Union Health Ministry today said that till yesterday, 2,011 people have perished to the H1N1 virus.

In worst-hit Gujarat, the death toll is 424 since January while the number of affected people is 6,468. Four hundred and eleven people have died in Rajasthan while the toll in Maharashtra is 385.

Overall media reported H1N1 fatalities this year are occurring at a historically high rate, much higher than in the corresponding periods in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010. The last was during the second pandemic wave. In 2013, the outbreak peaked in the second & third week of February. Both the most recent GISRS data and a graph of media reported deaths show that the outbreak has peaked. Activity remains high in Maharashtra. Of course since India lacks a comprehensive surveillance program, we are left with only media reports. Media reported H1N1 fatalities to date are listed below. Other types of influenza do not get reported. Worth bearing in mind that a study from 2012 estimated that, during the 2009-10 pandemic, confirmed fatalities in India represented only 2-3 % of total H1N1 fatalities. Thus these confirmed H1N1 fatalities could represent between 69,000 and 91,000 actual H1N1 related deaths, which in turn suggests millions of H1N1 cases this year. In addition, of course, there are other flu strains in circulation that we have little or no information about. Media reporting has suggested that testing for other flu strains is not occurring to any great extent even in fatal cases that do not test positive for H1N1. Multiple reports indicate that many confirmed deaths are not being included in the official tally. (Here and here for example). An MIT paper published recently suggested that mutations in the H1N1 virus noted in 2014 may be behind the elevated outbreak this year. This was immediately denied by the India National Institute of Virology.

The data suggests something unusual about this year's flu season in India. Two possibilities present themselves; a) Indian flu surveillance has progressed this year to the state that it was better able to detect & confirm H1N1 cases leading to greater case & fatality figures or b) India truly had an epic influenza season this year. I do not have the explanation. A WHO spokesman said that there was nothing unusual in this year's season, but the sheer number of cases reported by the Indian MOH&FW and by GISRS suggests otherwise. I would be delighted if knowledgeable sources were able to shed light on this. Looking at the historic GISRS data below, one can see that the spring wave is often followed by a comparably sized monsoon wave later in the year. Answers to what is happening and why may help India's preparation for the fall, perhaps with targeted vaccination of at risk groups etc.

NEW DELHI: Swine flu claimed the lives of nine more persons even as the number of people affected by the H1N1 virus across the country inched towards the 34,000-mark.

The Union Health Ministry said that 2,044 persons have died of the disease while the number of affected persons has touched 33,877 as on March 29.

NEW DELHI: The country witnessed 20 more deaths due to swine flu as the toll due to the contagious disease climbed to 2,084 and over 34,000 people were infected by the H1N1 virus.

According to data collected by Union health ministry till Tuesday, 2,084 people have died due to swine flu while the total number of affected people across various states has risen to 34,240.

New Delhi: There seems to be no let-up in the number of swine flu deaths with 18 more people succumbing to the virus in the past two days raising the toll to 2,141 while the number of those affected moved towards the 35,000-mark.


According to Union Health Ministry data, till Monday, the total number of affected people was 34785.

New Delhi: Twelve more people have succumbed to swine flu taking the death toll to 2,153, whereas the number of affected from the deadly disease inches towards a frightening 35,000-mark.

According to the Union Health Ministry, till Tuesday, a total of 2,153 lives have been lost to the deadly disease while the number of affected persons has climbed to 34,912.
