NAGPUR: A 28-year-old woman suffering from swine flu died of acute respiratory distress at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Friday midnight taking the H1N1 toll at the hospital to 21. Another five H1N1 deaths have been earlier reported from private hospitals.

The victim Manisha Ramteke, a resident of Hiwri layout Wathoda, was admitted to the swine flu ward on January 21 and was put on ventilator on January 23 after she tested positive.

GMCH dean Dr A Niswade, on Saturday, told TOI that 21 H1N1 patients admitted at the hospital had died. However, he did not mention anything about Ramteke's death. This apparently meant that either he was not aware of her death or did not want to divulge the information to the media.

The total of 135 patients at GMCH have tested positive while as many as 5922 patients have got themselves screened till date. Another three suspected patients were admitted to the isolation ward on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Social Medicine Department at GMCH is continuing with its community outreach programme. A team of doctors led by the head Prof Arun Humne will be in Gondia on Sunday and would be interacting with people during a programme organized by Gondia IMA branch. A panel discussion will also be held by a team led by Dr Sandeep Gunjal at 4 pm.

Two more swine flu deaths have been reported from Maharashtra, taking the toll in the country so far to 1296, an official statement said here today.



Both the deaths had occurred in recent days and were reported to the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today. No deaths were reported during the day today, the statement said.



Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 339, while 263 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 186 in Rajasthan, 141 in Karnataka, 95 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 39 in Punjab, 37 each in Kerala and Haryana, 24 in Madhya Pradesh, 18 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 8 each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 each in Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Orissa, 2 in Assam and 1 each in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.



The statement said 37 new cases of swine flu were reported from different parts of India today, including 22 in Maharashtra, 6 in Rajasthan, 5 in Gujarat, 2 in Karnataka and 1 each in Haryana and Delhi.



With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 29,268, the statement added.

Parvati Shankar Bhende, hailing from Basmatnagar tehsil of Hingoli district, was admitted to the district civil hospital on February 14 in a serious condition, they said.

She tested positive for swine flu and was kept on ventilator support.

Swine flu has claimed three more lives in Nashik, taking the city's toll of the disease to 31.



According to Nashik Civil Hospital's civil surgeon Dr Assaram Bhalsingh the three patients - Ganga Nivrutti Adaksul (35), Akash Ashrusha Kapse (33) and Heena Shaikh (14) of Nashik were died of swine flu. Their pathology reports from Pune's National Institute of Virology (NIV) have declared them as H1N1 positive, he added.



Before shifting to Nashik Civil Hospital, the trio were taking treatment in a private hospital for cold, fever and cough, Dr Bhalsingh said.



A suspected swine flu patient Magduma Shaikh, also a resident of Nashik, died yesterday night in the civil hospital, Dr Bhalsingh said. Irate relatives of Magduma Shaikh ransacked the civil hospital's furniture after Magduma's death, Dr Bhalsingh said.



"She was earlier treated in a private hospital and admitted to civil on Monday night in a serious condition," Dr Bhalsingh said adding that her reports from Pune's NIV are yet to received.



The health department has succeeded in controlling swine flu in rural areas of the district, he said. Hundreds of swine flu patients have been discharged from the civil hospital, he added.

The imported vaccine against H1N1 virus will arrive in Pune and other parts of the state this weekend. These are mainly for the high-risk group of medical practitioners and paramedical staff who have been dealing with patients infected with H1N1 virus.



In Pune, over 3,000 patients were treated for swine flu while in the state, this number is over 6,000. Dr V Khanande, joint director of Health Services said that there were 202 swine flu deaths in Pune and a total of 380 in the state.

Four more people have died of influenza A (H1N1) in Maharashtra, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in India so far to 1410, an official statement said here today.

Swine flu has claimed the lives of two pregnant women in Beed, taking the H1N1 toll in Marathwada to 34 since the breakout. While eight months’ pregnant Seema Kamble (23) died at the Ambajogai Sub-medical Hospital, six months’ pregnant Vanita Chavan (26) succumbed to the virus at a government hospital in Beed.



Both Kamble and Chavan were tested positive for H1N1 by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. The family members of both have been hospitalised as a precautionary measure.



SS Patil, deputy director, health services, Latur region, said 480 of the 1,15,840 screened in Latur had tested positive for the virus so far. He claimed the situation is under control and the department was prepared to face any eventuality.

Print E-Mail Nashik: As many as 55 people have died of swine flu in north Maharashtra since August 2009, officials said here.

A total of 569 patients were affected by the disease in the region consisting of Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar and Ahmednagar districts, they said.


40 of those killed due to the viral disease were from the Nashik district, district collector P Velrasu, who held a meeting with Health Department officials and private medical practitioners to take stock of the situation and H1N1 prevention, said yesterday.

According to Deputy Director of Health Department, Dilip Vaidya, so far 2,85,314 people had been examined for H1N1 in the division. Of them, 17,881 were administered tablets and advised other preventive measures.

Among other districts, Ahmednagar reported eight deaths, followed by Dhule and Nandurbar (three each) and Jalgaon (one), Vaidya said, adding most victims were women.

Velrasu said the Health Department is guiding private medical practitioners regarding swine flu and has told them to immediately treat patients with H1N1-like symptoms.

The government has made available medicines like tamiflu at all screening centres and isolation wards free of cost, Velrasu said.

नांदेड - बारड येथील ज्योती रामराव गायकवाड (वय 29) या महिलेचा गुरुवारी (ता. एक) स्वाइन फ्लूच्या आजाराने मृत्यू झाला. जिल्ह्यात स्वाइन फ्लू आजाराची तीव्रता कमी असली तरी नागरिकांनी स्वाइन फ्लूच्या लक्षणांकडे दुर्लक्ष न करता वेळेवर शासकीय रुग्णालयात तपासणी करून घ्यावी, असे आवाहन जिल्हा प्रशासनातर्फे करण्यात आले आहे.

वेळेवर स्वाइन फ्लूची तपासणी न केल्याने रुग्णाचा मृत्यू झाल्याची ही जिल्ह्यातील चौथी घटना आहे. यापूर्वी बाहेरील जिल्ह्यातील तीन रुग्ण उशिरा तपासणी केल्याने दगावले आहेत. श्रीमती गायकवाड यांनी येथील एका खासगी रुग्णालयात ता. 30 मार्च रोजी तपासणी केली. प्रकृती अत्यवस्थ असल्याने तेथील डॉक्*टरांनी सदर महिलेस जिल्हा रुग्णालयात तपासणी करण्यासाठी पाठविले. बुधवारी (ता. 31) सकाळी दहा वाजता जिल्हा रुग्णालयात या महिलेस दाखल करताक्षणी व्हेंटिलेटरवर ठेवण्यात येऊन तिच्यावर प्राथमिक औषधोपचार सुरू करण्यात आले. तिचा स्वॅब तत्काळ तपासणीसाठी पाठविण्यात आला. दरम्यान, गुरुवारी (ता. एक) अकरा वाजता तिचा मृत्यू झाला. याच दिवशी रात्री उशिरा तिला स्वाइन फ्लू असल्याचा अहवाल प्राप्त झाला. या महिलेच्या संपर्कात येणाऱ्या व्यक्तींवर औषधोपचार सुरू करण्यात आले आहेत.

जिल्हा रुग्णालयात ऑगस्ट महिन्यापासून करण्यात येणाऱ्या तपासणीत 218 रुग्णांचे अहवाल पॉझिटिव्ह आले होते. त्यापैकी वेळेवर तपासणी करणारे 212 रुग्ण उपचाराअंती पूर्णत: बरे झाले आहेत. दोन रुग्णांवर जिल्हा रुग्णालयात उपचार सुरू आहेत. जिल्ह्यात स्वाइन फ्लूची तीव्रता कमी होत असताना या रोगाच्या लक्षणांकडे दुर्लक्ष करण्याची प्रवृत्ती दिसून येत आहे. त्यामुळे रोग प्रसार अधिक होण्याची शक्*यता असते. नागरिकांनी या रोगाची लक्षणे आढळताच जवळील शासकीय रुग्णालयात तपासणी करून घेतल्यास वेळेवर प्रतिबंधात्मक उपचार करता येतात व त्यामुळे रोगाचा धोका कमी होऊ शकतो. शासकीय रुग्णालयात या रोगावर उपचार करण्यासाठी सर्व प्रकारची औषधे आणि यंत्रणा उपलब्ध आहे. त्यामुळे नागरिकांनी रोगाची लक्षणे आढळताच रुग्णालयाशी संपर्क साधावा, असे आवाहन जिल्हा प्रशासनातर्फे करण्यात आले आहे.

कोल्हापूर - छत्रपती प्रमिलाराजे रुग्णालयात आज (रविवार) सकाळी स्वाईन फ्लूमुळे युवराज घाटगे (वय २६) या युवकाचा मृत्यू झाला. युवराज घाटगे याला स्वाईन फ्लूची लागण झाल्याने उपाचारासाठी २५ मार्च रोजी येथे दाखल करण्यात आले होते. आज अखेर त्याचा मृत्यू झाला.
