In the past, the bubonic plague in our region decimated entire populations, after entering through the port of Paita.
Piura. With 31 cases of bubonic plague confirmed in the region and La Libertad and some suspected of having contracted the deadly disease in our neighboring Lambayeque, Piura could not stay idle.

The mayor of Piura, Monica Zapata Castagnino, yesterday announced an aggressive campaign to exterminate rats in the complex market of Piura, where every day dozens of trucks saturate with its load of food from markets in these regions of the south.

Speaking to E, the mayor said the operation "Deratting forms part of preventive work that has already begun the municipality to prevent rodents migrate to our city, from the supply center of La Libertad and Lambayeque.

"This epidemic is already moving. We all know that the city receives many trucks that come from those areas, so there is a huge risk that infected rodents crossing our borders in this way and come to the market in Piura," said .

TIME BOMB.
The municipal authority is aware that high overcrowding and unsanitary environment that prevails in this shopping complex, is habitat for the evil afinque there and put at risk the lives of traders and users.

Complex Piura Markets hosts six thousand merchants who mostly do business in the company of their children and family. At the same time, the city estimated at five thousand people daily go there to make your purchase.

THIS MONDAY.
This huge mass of population would become a potential breeding ground for evil, which, once you become a supply center would multiply among the rest of the population.

The mayor said that is a national need to make provisions to contain the disease. For the moment, have a work plan developed and have cited health authorities for a meeting Monday morning where he exhibited.

The clearance work will also be called the leaders of the traders to duly, aware that there is in between a public health issue and is in your hands to support this collaboration. :tiphat:http://www.correoperu.com.pe/correo...cci_id=44&txtSecci_parent=0&txtNota_id=409851

Dump The Miracle is a den of rats
Sunday, August 8, 2010

After activation of the warning of a possible outbreak of diseases like bubonic plague and pneumonic plague in the town Miracle, fear and panic has gripped the entire community because it fears a possible spread of the deadly disease due to the deplorable state which is the current dump, which has become a nest of rodents.

In this context the mayor of the commune, Loyola V?squez Wilder acknowledged that the sectors 8 and 9, located in the vicinity of the landfill, are the areas most prone to the spread of such epidemics due to poor sanitation. "The dump situation affects all residents of the district. The dump is a den of rats and irregular operation is also a real danger as the farms and work around pigsty and animals have been fed by years of waste are dumped at the dump, "he said.

It also stated that the health of approximately 200 thousand families are at risk of taking preventive measures as soon as possible. "We must consider the whole city waste builds up in El Milagro and conditions of waste treatment is not adequate. So we met last Friday to see solutions Huanchaco Mayor and representatives of the micro Health. This is to prevent an outbreak of disease, "he said.

Calls municipal support
Similarly, the mayor said the Provincial Municipality as directly responsible for the operation of the landfill, must dedicate resources to the start of a massive fumigation to prevent deadly pests. "We must clarify that this is not to alarm but to prevent, so the Provincial Council has to intervene and support the activity of caution."

On this line explained that the emergency plan will work fumigation in two stages and is scheduled to start next week. "As a first preventive measure is fumigated to kill the fleas carrying the bubonic plague bacteria and then eliminated the rodents. It is prioritizing the situation, "he said.

Ecological project on hold
On the other hand, the manager of the Environmental Management Service, Mercedes L?pez Garc?a, mentioned that a project to convert the organic landfill dump but that this has to eradicate the garbage near the dump and punish industries - including tanneries, throwing toxic waste into the surrounding wasteland.

"It's a shame what is happening around the area, have increased solid waste at an alarming and disproportionate. What you have to do is step up surveillance. The city of Huanchaco and the population center Miracle must exercise control and punish those who place around the dump waste because it runs the risk arising from spreading or other dumps. Industries can not place garbage outside harming the health of residents. It has at once to control the situation before they get out of hand, "concluded the manager. :tiphat:http://www.laindustria.pe/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17680&Itemid=6

And the second fatality apparently happened on April 16 and is a four year old girl. Despite the language in the article, if she died of bubonic or septicemic plague, and not pneumonic, then she really didn't transmit it to her family; they just were likely infected by the same thing that infected her.

Alert. Liberty has 29 suspect cases, 12 confirmed and two died. Doctors and officials are concerned about the spread of this disease and fear that is spreading to other regions and even get to Lima.

Eliana Villavicencio. Trujillo.

In twenty-first century, a terrible medieval disease is spreading in La Libertad. This is the bubonic plague, caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, which lives in the wild rodents that transmit the disease through their fleas.

While the plague is now focused on Ascope province, an hour from the city of Trujillo, fear takes over the population and the authorities to the possibility of an epidemic and spread to other regions Lambayeque, Piura and Cajamarca, seriously threatening public health.

This evil can also generate other types of pests like pneumonic and septicemic, also dangerous.

Two dead

The last report of the Regional Management of Health Freedom points out that so far this year there have been 29 cases of plague, of which, to date, only 12 have been confirmed, including the death occurred two people. Of the latter group, eight cases are bubonic plague, pneumonic plague and two to two and septicemic plague.

2010 The first case occurred on April 16 in the area of Los Libertadores Chicama district. A four year old girl, whose identity was withheld, died of bubonic plague. Apparently transmitted the disease to five family members confirmed by laboratory tests.

Following this, the May 3 stated in the health sector "Epidemiological Red Alert" to all Ascope province for a period of 90 days to take urgent measures that will control this disease.

The second case occurred three months after the first. It was a pneumonic plague in a 29-year-old from the district Chocope (Ascope province, an hour of Trujillo), who caught a doctor of 35 years of Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital and a student of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo.

These three cases were officially reported on 15 July. To prevent a possible epidemic, Freedom Regional Council declared a health emergency. Since then presented a chain of people infected, from Ascope, registering a new death on 23 July. Bubonic plague, as septicemic, killed a 14-year-old with Down syndrome in the sector Sumanique Cartavio the town of the district of Santiago de Cao.

Countering fever

In this regard, the president of the Peruvian Medical Association, Herberth Cuba, lamented the "lack of forcefulness of the Ministry of Health to combat the plague, and complain about the lack of supplies to combat it."

For his part, President of the Regional Committee to Combat Bubonic Plague, Pedro Diaz Camacho, asked the sugar companies and Casagrande Group Cartavio Gloria expedite the submission of PAMA (Adaptation Program for the Environment), which provides for measures against cane burning to prevent rodents migrate to the peri-urban areas.

It requested that the National Institute of Health (NIH) decentralize their equipment to La Libertad to accelerate the results of tests for plague.

Data

Poorly known. The Freedom had fifteen years of epidemiological silence, ie since 1994 had not been presented cases of bubonic plague.

CASES. In October last year there was an outbreak of five cases confirmed in the sector in the district of Santa Clara Casagrande (Ascope).

INFECTED. Those infected were treated in time and survived the disease.

A fight with hygiene and education

According to the dean of the CMP, Ciro Magui?a should begin a massive campaign of educating the population to prevent contamination or leave residues that attract rodents infected.

He also indicated that health authorities should monitor housing guinea pig or other rodents to verify that these are in a clean environment, since in the dirt spread fleas infected with plague.

Likewise, agreeing with the sugar so it does not burn your reeds and these burrows become rats. "Do not kill the rats, because the pollution would be worse. It is recommended to spray the infected area and maintaining proper hygiene, "said Magui?a.

Given the cases presented in 'Bubonic Plague' in northern director of the Hospital La Caleta, in coordination with the health committee and COPROSEC, is coordinating a plan of proposals for preventive measures to avoid possible cases of patients infected with this disease .
In response, the Director Zuniga Guiselle Prince said one of the main proposal is to raise awareness regarding this issue which has alerted the whole country and the other would start the clean-up campaign to avoid outbreaks of infection in vulnerable areas where there is greater risk of spreading the spread of bubonic plague and pneumonic plague.

Among them, human settlements that lack basic services which threatens the health of the inhabitants, as well as the bus terminal where there is direct contact between people coming from other places and that possibly they may be infected with pneumonic plague, and then transmit it to the chimbotanos, just as another area for example is that in the back of the pier is currently with mounds of garbage and it is clear the presence of rodents that can leave their infected fleas.

Re: Peru - outbreak of pneumonic plague

Irresponsible and criminal indifference
Monday, August 9, 2010

The imminent danger of a violent proliferation of bubonic and pneumonic plague does not seem to turn on the speed of public officials of the Health of Lima.

As is clear from the undue delay that the doctors treat the capital scenario analysis outbreaks of this disease, the issue is not relevant even though the amount of cases being reported daily in our region.

To date, about 29 have been reported among confirmed cases (12) and those to be confirmed. As the results come, however, our patients continue to pray for a cure, and we, the concerned expectant, unfortunately we only ask that we not hold them off guard.

Prevention, however, is a much more arduous task, especially if, after learning something about the mechanism of infection and contagion, or the etiology of the disease, we understand that this is a pest that attacks first, to disadvantaged populations. Is precisely where the work of education and prophylaxis is complicated greatly. If this reality is compounded by the silence of the Lima laboratory workers, the picture is much more worrisome.

In principle, know the final diagnosis of about 17 difficult patients wishing to undertake any action that doctors, whose primary duty is to save lives. Wandering in uncertainty, contingency plans against the virus that wishes to enter the Regional Health Management, end up stagnating. That is, to be unworkable. If only it were possible to close the eyes, pretending to be a bad dream, dream, of course, "and just wake up! And forget.

But the reality is not necessary so that when least expected, hits us in all its violence and tried to force to react. How much do you actually know of the capital charge required to issue final reports on the analysis of virus samples forwarded to them for over a week? Apparently, they do not know anything about anything, and that is natural. A distance of 557 miles between Trujillo and Lima will also make a dent in the myths of a quasi-fictional integration and national brotherhood.

I say quasi-fictional because you can not understand or justify the delay. Sent analysis are 17 more than a week, so far unsolved. Meanwhile, our patients get worse, the Management of Health is reassuring the public and the press attention to this phenomenon, only records incidents, making votes because we do not see in the coming days with a pathological situation uncontrollable. Praying also because we do not reach, or bubonic plague or his relentless sister pneumonic.

Freedom is a source of pride for the nation in many aspects: cultural, gastronomic, tourist. Go! Even beauty queens, our daughters, we have taken to the delight of the world to honor the globe! The meanness of centralization, however, hold as much as a virus, much more than the benefits, in the fragile national memory:tiphat:http://www.laindustria.pe/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17718&Itemid=15

In this regard, and in order to prevent the spread of this epidemic, called on the authorities of the Ministry of Health (MoH) have a preferential attention to the cases sent from Trujillo.

"With the epidemic that we live in Trujillo, Lima would have to give us another kind of attention, so we will continue as more probable cases and not take proper control of the epidemic," he said.

Decentralization
Also, Camacho D?az, required decentralizing authorities Minsa laboratories discard the plague. "This could be confirmed or excluded cases immediately and not wait a week to learn and take action."

By coordinated action across sectors and international agencies
13:38 outbreak of plague in La Libertad is controlled, Ministry of Health reports

Lima, ago. 14 (ANDINA). The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported that the outbreak of plague in the department of La Libertad is under control, due to the technical assistance that continues to provide the sector, as well as prevention and control measures against this evil that implements and reinforces Libertad regional government.
A report by the General Directorate of Health Promotion Minsa, specialist in charge of Hamilton Garc?a D?az, underlines the commitment of the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad with the National Health Strategy (NSS Zoonoses) to strengthen prevention work takes place in ports and slaughterhouses, to control rodents in their establishments.

Business Guild President, Victor Peralta, said that in total are available to support action that promotes the MoH and the Regional Health Management.

He said this week convened its members to act immediately in support of disease control.

Technical assistance has the support of specialists from the MoH and the World Health Organization (WHO) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

Meanwhile, the MoH will continue to monitor the actions of epidemiological surveillance, vector control, fumigation and trapping rodents and fleas for the presence of Yersinia pestis and strengthen surveillance and vector control, since there are still areas of African wildlife reservoirs .

This task is in charge of the Department of Epidemiology, National Institute of Health, Directorate General of Health (Digesa), Directorate General of Health of the People (DGSP) and the Directorate General of Health Promotion (DGPS).

On the treatment of people affected is free in all cases of bubonic plague, including hospitalization. In addition, 100 percent of the family and hospital contacts have been identified and have been given antibiotic prophylaxis treatment, according to the MoH.

The average incubation period of pneumonic plague is three days, for that reason intensified biosecurity measures in hospitals to prevent further infections.

He points out that mid-July a workshop was held macro-regional epidemiological database for monitoring, control and prevention of plague in northern Peru, in order to optimize pest control plans, and the areas involved Piura, Sullana, Lambayeque, La Libertad and Cajamarca and others.

Among the measures recommended to address the outbreak of plague include not eliminate rodents during the presentation of the outbreak of the plague, because release of fleas increases the risk of spread of the disease.

Make the proper storage of crops in rodent-proof granaries, adequate disposal of waste (sanitary burial), as well as food in rodent-proof containers.

Also improve the structure of the rodent-proof homes (Eliminate holes, cracks, routes of entry over the ceilings, etc.), among others.:tiphat:http://www.andina.com.pe/Espanol/Noticia.aspx?id=8SZfWfBGZ6s=
