It is feared the outbreak of pneumonic plague in the region
Friday, July 16, 2010
An outbreak of pneumonic plague, virulent disease with high mortality rate, was detected in Trujillo. Three patients, including a resident doctor and a medical student, whose health condition is serious, so the doctors are striving to save their lives.
This evil is a complication of bubonic plague, that is, that when a patient is not treated properly or promptly, it creates a generalized infection in humans and the bacterium Yersinia pestis (causing bubonic plague) spreads through blood and infects the lungs, causing pneumonic plague.
To tell the regional manager of Health, Victor Peralta Chavez, is the first time that this disease is recorded in the country and no longer a health problem local, regional or national level, it has an international connotation.
The disturbing story
A woman aged 29, from Mariposa Leyva sector, district Chocope (Ascope), distant 40 minutes north of this city, contracted the disease.
The first symptoms were manifested in the female the 3d instant. Five days later, his family took him to Trujillo, he was interned at the Regional Teaching Hospital.
He had a picture of severe pneumonia (high fever, abdominal pain, shortness of breath and other symptoms). The patient was receiving treatment for both pneumonia, and for a potential influenza A H1N1 (antibiotics and antivirals), but no improvement. Last Wednesday I did a quick test to detect possible pneumonic plague and the results were negative.
At death's door
A 32-year resident doctor who treated and piped to the patient during his critical condition, from the current 10 also had the same symptoms of infected women. He was immediately hospitalized and provided him with treatment, but his health is critical.
In this regard, Peralta Chavez said that the patient's progress is not good, because it presents an acute and complex caused by the infection.
"This has caused multiple organ failure, ie that many of your vital organs do not work or stopped working properly. The patient is in hospital intensive care V?ctor Lazarte Echegaray "he said.
Also, last Tuesday, a fourth year student of Human Medicine of the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo (UNT), who also had contact with the infected woman was hospitalized at Regional Teaching Hospital. This patient took a rapid test and tested positive for pneumonic plague. His condition is also very delicate, he said.
Pneumonia outbreak
With these results, Peralta Chavez summoned the press and warned of a possible outbreak of pneumonic plague hospital or located in the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital. Although he clarified that this is an imported case of Chocope, an area where plague spreads silently and very dangerous.
