Ontario is reporting 1,066 people in hospital with COVID on Thursday, with 302 in intensive care units as figures continue to trend downward.
This is down by 40 hospitalizations and a decrease of 17 in ICUs since the previous day. Last Thursday, there were 1,342 hospitalizations with 356 in ICU.
The province recently began distinguishing between those who were admitted to hospital directly because of COVID, and those who were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for the virus.
Of the 1,066 people in hospital with COVID-19, 49 per cent of them were admitted because of the virus, while 51 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19.
Of the 302 people in ICUs with the virus, 74 per cent were admitted because of COVID, while 26 per cent were admitted for other reasons.
Meanwhile, Ontario also reported 2,404 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, though that is an underestimate of the true widespread transmission of the virus due to recent testing restrictions. The provincial case total now stands at 1,093,930.
Of the 2,404 new cases recorded, the data showed 298 were unvaccinated people, 80 were partially vaccinated people, 1,841 were fully vaccinated people. For 185 people the vaccination status was unknown.
The death toll in the province has risen to 12,347 as 41 more virus-related deaths were added. A ministry of health spokesperson said the deaths occurred over the past 30 days...

Ontario confirmed 34 more COVID-19 deaths and fewer than 1,100 people hospitalized with the virus for a third straight day.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Health said 31 of the deaths occurred in the past month and three additional deaths were added to the cumulative death total.
There have been 12,420 virus-related deaths since March 2020.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has fallen below 1,000 for the first time since late December, although health officials warn that not all hospitals report on the weekend.
According to provincial data, there are 842 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 281 patients in intensive care...

Health officials in Ontario are reporting that there are now fewer than 700 patients in hospital with COVID-19 as the number of ICU admissions falls below 250 for the first time in two months.
Data released Sunday shows there are currently 684 patients testing positive for the novel coronavirus in hospitals across the province, down from the 795 patients reported on Saturday.
Meanwhile, ICU admissions related to COVID-19 dropped from 253 to 247. The last time ICU admissions were below 250 was on Jan. 3.
No information on vaccination status or incidental hospitalizations was released by the government. It should be noted that not all hospitals report patient data over the weekend.
Another 21 net new deaths were also recorded Sunday. However, 17 of those deaths occurred in the last month and four occurred more than one month ago and are only being reported now due to a data cleaning...
