There are 221 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba on Sunday and three more people have died after getting the illness, the province said in a news release.

All three deaths — a man in his 60s and a woman and a man in their 80s from the Winnipeg health region — are linked to the more contagious B.1.1.7 coronavirus variant, the release said.

That variant was first detected in the U.K. and now makes up about one-quarter of Manitoba's active cases, the province's online variant dashboard says.

Most of the new cases are in the Winnipeg health region, which reported 143 infections.

That region's five-day test positivity rate rose to 13 per cent, from 12.7 on Saturday. Provincially, the rate jumped to 12 per cent, up from 11.5.

The rest of the new cases are split between the Southern Health region (which posted 32), the Prairie Mountain Health region (25), the Northern Health Region (12) and the Interlake-Eastern health region (nine), the release said.

There are now 346 Manitobans hospitalized after getting COVID-19, up by 13 since Saturday.

That includes 99 in intensive care units, with 62 still in the province, 34 in Ontario, two in Alberta and one in Saskatchewan...

Public health officials advise two new deaths in people with COVID-19 have been reported today:
• a male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 variant of concern; and
• a female in her 60s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 variant of concern.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 11.9 per cent provincially and 12.7 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30 a.m. today, 169 new cases of the virus have been identified. However, one case has been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 168 and the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 52,919.

Today’s COVID-19 data shows:
• six cases in the Interlake–Eastern health region;
• 16 cases in the Northern health region.
• nine cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
• 27 cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
• 111 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

The data also shows:
• 3,962 active cases and 47,880 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19;
• 344 Manitobans hospitalized with COVID-19 in Manitoba and neighbouring provinces including:
- 223 people in hospital in Manitoba with active COVID-19 as well as 85 people in hospital with COVID-19 who are no longer infectious, amounting to a total of 308 hospitalizations;
- a total of 102 Manitoba patients receiving intensive care for COVID-19 including:
o 47 people in intensive care units in Manitoba with active COVID-19 as well as 19 people with COVID-19 who are no longer infectious but continue to require critical care, amounting to a total of 66 ICU patients in Manitoba; and
o 36 Manitoba patients in intensive care units outside the province, with 33 in Ontario, one in Saskatchewan and two in Alberta;
• 17 patients previously receiving care in an out-of-province ICU have now been returned to Manitoba hospitals including one who was repatriated yesterday;
• 1,838 laboratory tests were completed yesterday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February 2020 to 787,762; and
• the total number of deaths in people with COVID-19 is 1,077.

Public health officials are reminding Manitobans that in most cases, they should only seek testing at a provincial test site if they are symptomatic or have been advised by public health that they are a close contact. This will help ensure those who need to be tested can continue to access testing as easily as possible. Manitobans have several options available to access testing, including drive-thru and walk-in sites, or by booking an appointment by calling 1-855-268-4318 or online at select sites at www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/testing/locations.html#appointment.

Manitoba reports 237 new cases of COVID-19 and two deaths on Tuesday.

The deaths reported Tuesday are a man in his 60s from the Interlake-Eastern health region with the more contagious B.1.1.7 variant and a man in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region.

The total number of deaths in Manitoba due to COVID-19 is now 1,079.

The five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate in Manitoba is 12 per cent, while in Winnipeg it's 12.6 per cent.

here are 300 people in hospital with COVID-19, down from 308 on Monday.

A total of 104 Manitobans are receiving intensive care for COVID-19, 68 within the province and 36 outside the province: 33 in Ontario, one in Saskatchewan and two in Alberta.

Most of the new cases were in the Winnipeg health region, which has 144 new cases.

There were 42 new cases in the Southern Health region, 21 in the Northern Health Region,17 in the Prairie Mountain Health region and 13 in the Interlake-Eastern health region.

The province reported another 903 cases have been linked to more contagious coronavirus variants since Friday.

A Winnipeg teenager has died after he got COVID-19, the province says in a news release.

A man in his 50s, also from the Winnipeg health region, died as well. The man's death was linked to the more contagious B.1.1.7 coronavirus variant first found in the U.K., the release said.

The deaths bring Manitoba's total linked to the illness to 1,081.

The province also announced 250 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, including 136 in the Winnipeg health region.

The rest are split between the Southern Health region (which reported 48), the Interlake-Eastern health region (32), the Northern Health Region (18) and the Prairie Mountain Health region (16), the release said.

Manitoba's five-day test positivity rate dropped to 11.5 per cent from 12 per cent on Tuesday. Winnipeg's sank to 12.3 per cent from 12.6.

There are now 323 Manitobans hospitalized after getting COVID-19, down by 13 since Tuesday. That includes 30 people in intensive care units outside the province: 27 in Ontario, two in Alberta and one in Saskatchewan, the release said.

There are 251 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba on Thursday and six more people have died after getting the illness, the province says in a news release.

More than half the new cases are in the Winnipeg health region, which has 142 infections.

The rest are split between the Northern Health Region (which reported 41), the Southern Health region (35), the Prairie Mountain Health region (17) and the Interlake-Eastern health region (16), the release said.

There are now 316 Manitobans hospitalized after getting COVID-19, down by seven since Wednesday.

That includes 94 patients in intensive care, with 64 in Manitoba, 27 in Ontario, two in Alberta and one in Saskatchewan. Two additional COVID-19 patients were transferred on Wednesday to hospitals in Thunder Bay and London, Ont., the release said.

A total of 23 patients have been brought back to Manitoba after being moved out of province for critical care, including two people brought back on Wednesday.

Daily COVID-19 case counts are expected to continue to drop in Manitoba, but modelling unveiled by the province on Friday suggests hospitalizations linked to the illness aren't finished climbing.

Dr. Jazz Atwal, Manitoba's deputy chief provincial public health officer, says the projections show that while case numbers are no longer in the extreme scenario, hospitalizations remain in the moderate range and intensive care admissions are in the severe range.

"In the past few days, the overall number of people in ICU seems to have stabilized. However, it's still an extremely high number and it isn't sustainable," Atwal said.

On Friday, there were 306 Manitobans hospitalized with COVID-19, the province said in a news release, marking a drop of 10 since Thursday.

Ninety-three of them were in intensive care, including 30 still in hospitals across Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan as Manitoba works to free up space in its overwhelmed health-care system.

Friday's projections also don't factor in the potential effects of the P.1 variant associated with Brazil or the B.1.617.2 strain linked to India — also known as the gamma and delta variants, though Atwal said work is underway to include those strains in future modelling...

There are 294 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba on Saturday and five more people have died from the illness, the province says in a news release.

Most of the new cases were in the Winnipeg health region, which reported 163 infections.

WINNIPEG -- Manitoba's daily cases remain the lowest the province has seen since April, with 116 new cases and two more deaths linked to variants of concern on Tuesday.

Provincial health officials announced the two deaths in a bulletin released on Tuesday.

The two deaths include a Winnipeg man in his 90s whose death has been linked to the B.1.1.7. variant of concern, and a woman in her 90s from the Southern Health region.

The woman's death has been linked to an unspecified variant of concern and the outbreak at the Carman Memorial Hospital.

This brings the total number of people who have died with COVID-19 in Manitoba to 1,104. Provincial data shows 114 deaths have been linked to variants of concern.

For the second day, provincial health officials reported the lowest daily COVID-19 cases Manitoba has seen since April.

The province reported 116 new cases on Tuesday. The last time daily cases were this low in Manitoba was on April 19, when 108 cases were reported in a single day.

The province recorded a five-day test positivity rate of 10.6 per cent.

WINNIPEG -- The Manitoba government reported seven new deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, with all but one linked to variants of concern.

The deaths include four people from Winnipeg; a woman in her 40s, a man in his 60s, a woman in her 70s, and a woman in her 80s.

All four of these deaths were linked to the B.1.1.7 or Alpha variant first reported in the United Kingdom, with the death of the woman in her 80s also linked to an outbreak at Seven Oaks General Hospital in unit 3U4-7.

The remaining deaths occurred in the Southern Health Zone, including a man in his 70s linked to the Alpha variant, and two women in their 80s both linked to an outbreak at Carman Memorial Hospital. One of the women’s deaths was linked to an unspecified variant of concern.

Manitoba’s current death toll from COVID-19 is 1,111.

The province also announced 144 new cases, bringing the total since March 2020 to 54,739. One previous case was removed due to a data correction.

There are 2,799 active cases and 50,829 Manitobans who have recovered.

Test positivity rates for COVID-19 dropped to levels not seen since the beginning of May in both Winnipeg and all of Manitoba on Thursday, as the province announced 183 new cases of the illness.

Manitoba's five-day rate dropped to 8.8 per cent, the province said in a news release, which is down from 9.7 on Wednesday. The last time the provincial rate was that low was on May 5, when it also sat at 8.8 per cent.

Winnipeg's rate sank to 8.5 per cent from 9.2. The city's rate hasn't been that low since May 2, when it was 8.4 per cent.

The death of a woman in her 60s from the Winnipeg health region was also reported on Thursday. She had contracted the B.1.1.7 alpha variant first seen in the U.K., the release said.

Manitoba reported 93 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the province's online dashboard says, marking its lowest single-day increase in over two months.

The last time the province reported a daily increase lower than that was on April 14, when there were 86 new cases of the illness.

The update brings Manitoba's seven-day average daily COVID-19 case count down to roughly 143.

Six more people have also died after getting COVID-19, the dashboard says. That brings Manitoba's total deaths linked to the illness to 1,124.

Five of the people who died were from Winnipeg: a man in his 30s, a man in his 50s, a woman in her 50s, a man in his 60s and a woman her 60s. A man in his 70s from the Southern Health region also died, the province says.

The biggest proportion of the new cases on Sunday are in the Winnipeg health region, which reported 42 infections.

The rest are split between the Southern Health region, which has 24 new cases, the Interlake-Eastern health region, with 14, the Northern health region, with eight, and the Prairie Mountain Health region, with five, the dashboard says.

Manitoba public health officials announced 74 new COVID-19 cases and one death on Monday.

The daily caseload is the lowest since April 6, when there were 62 new cases.

The death is a woman in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 variant of concern and to the outbreak at Seven Oaks General Hospital 3U4-7.

Not included in the daily numbers are the deaths of two more Manitobans who were receiving care in Ontario after being sent out of Manitoba last month to ease the burden on the province's critical care system.

A spokesperson with Shared Health said a woman in her 60s who was sent out of province on May 26 and a man in his 70s who was moved on May 29 both died.

Those deaths will be reflected in Manitoba's official COVID-19 fatality count in the coming days, the spokesperson said.

There has now been a total of nine deaths of out-of-province patients since the first people were sent to Ontario in mid-May...

Manitoba public health officials announced 69 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths, including a patient in Ontario.

This is the third consecutive day of double-digit numbers after more than two months of triple-digit increases.

The deaths include a man in his 20s from the Interlake-Eastern health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 (alpha) variant of concern, and a man in his 60s from the Southern Health region, linked to the same variant.

The other two deaths in Manitoba are both women in their 70s from the Winnipeg health region. One is linked to the alpha variant and the other is linked to an as-yet-unspecified variant.

A spokesperson for Manitoba's provincial health organization, Shared Health, announced Tuesday that a man in his 50s, who was moved to Ontario on May 30 for COVID care, has died.

His death is not part of the current fatality count but will be added in the coming days, the spokesperson said.

The total number of Manitobans who have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic is now 1,129, not including the most recent death in Ontario. Of those deaths, 137 were related to variants of concern...

There are 123 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths on Wednesday, Manitoba Public Health said in a news release.

That case total snaps a three-day run of new case numbers being below 100.

The deaths, of a man in his 60s from the Southern Health region, a man in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region and a man in his 70s from the Winnipeg region, are all linked to the B.1.1.7 (alpha) variant of concern.

The total number of Manitobans who have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic is now 1,132. Of those, 140 deaths are related to variants of concern.

There are 64 new COVID-19 cases in the Winnipeg health region, 22 in the Northern Health Region, 16 in the Southern Health region, 12 in the Interlake-Eastern health region and nine in the Prairie Mountain Health region.

Despite the increase in the daily case count, the five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate in Manitoba has dropped to 7.1 per cent from 7.6 per cent on Tuesday, with 2,013 tests completed...

REGINA -- Saskatchewan reported 32 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the lowest daily case count since Oct. 18, 2020.

The province also recorded 64 recoveries and one death. The person who died was in their 70s and from the Northwest zone.

The new cases are in the Far Northwest (two); Northwest (two); North Central (one); Northeast (one); Saskatoon (10); Central East (three); Regina (eight); and Southeast (four) zones. One case is pending residence information...

There are 106 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba on Thursday and two more people have died from the illness, the province says in a news release.

Most of the new cases are in the Winnipeg health region, which reported 64 new infections, the release said.

The rest are split between the Southern Health region, with 18, the Northern Health Region, with 14, the Interlake-Eastern health region, with nine, and the Prairie Mountain Health region, with one.

The deaths announced Thursday are two men: one in his 50s from the Winnipeg health region and one in his 80s from the Southern Health region.

The younger man had contracted the B.1.1.7 coronavirus variant, also known as the alpha variant, which was first seen in the U.K., the release said. The older man had a variant that's still listed as unspecified.

The deaths bring Manitoba's total linked to COVID-19 to 1,134, the release said...
