KOLKATA: Two persons in south Dum Dum municipality area died of dengue in the past 48 hours, taking the toll from the locality to nine this season. Even in its renewed outbreak, dengue does not seem to have spared Dum Dum.
The deceased have been identified as Asim Kumar Dasgupta (47), a resident of Trikon Park area near Dum Dum Cantonment, and a 55-year-old resident of Shastri Bagan in south Dum Dum, Rebeka Mitra (see also post #131 above - Ro). But Pinaki Dey , a doctor attached with a Nagerbazar nursing home, felt the volume of positive cases had started dropping."Mortality rate is not an indicator of how the disease has spread here," he said.

The dengue virus infected a total of 1,103 residents, while 490 others were diagnosed with chikungunya in September, taking the total count to 1,590 cases. It's a record high this year.

Two suspected dengue deaths were reported from Kharar, Mohali district, here today. The deceased, 45-year-old Tabassum and 18-year-old Sahil belonged to the same family and resided in the Rambagh Colony of Kharar. While Sahil reportedly died on October 2, Tabassum died last night at the PGI.
Mohali Civil Surgeon Dr Ranjit Kaur Guru said the PGI was yet to submit the report of the cause of deaths. ?In the meanwhile, we will go to the residential colony of the deceased and conduct an anti-dengue activity,? said Dr Guru.
Meanwhile, 19 fresh cases of dengue were reported from Mohali district, taking the total number of the district to 1,061.

Lucknow: A day after the high court rapped it for fudging dengue death numbers, the state health department on Thursday admitted that six persons died from dengue in the past one month at government hospitals in Lucknow. Until now, the department had maintained that there was only one dengue death in the city this season.
The death audit committee formed for the purpose, in a meeting on Thursday, corrected its records after being pulled up by the high court on Wednesday. The six deaths, chief medical officer Dr SNS Yadav said, were reported from SGPGI and KGMU. "The five dengue deaths, which could not be verified earlier, were recorded from the registers of these two hospitals," CMO added.
