GURGAON: The city reportedly recorded its first dengue death, after a seven-year-old boy died at a nursing home in Old Gurgaon on Thursday. The district health authorities, however, have not confirmed the case.

The boy was a resident of Dharam Colony and was undergoing treatment in the nursing home for the last four days. He died late on Thursday night. "While the normal count is between 1.5 lakh and 4.5 lakh, the boy's platelet count fell as low as 10,000. As the capital battles with rising number of dengue cases, the type 4 strain of the disease has emerged as the dominant type for the first time in the capital, along with dengue type 2, serological tests conducted on patients at AIIMS have revealed.
While symptoms of type 4 dengue include fever with shock and a drop in platelets, type 2 causes a severe drop in platelets, haemorrhagic fever, organ failure and dengue shock syndrome. Barring stray cases in 2003, the type 4 strain of the virus has never been isolated in Delhi, said microbiologists from AIIMS.

The toll from dengue here climbed to 11 today as one more death -- of a 29-year old woman -- was reported due to the vector-borne disease that has caused a widespread scare in the national capital. According to authorities at Lok Nayak hospital, the woman, a resident of north-west Delhi, had come to the hospital last evening and succumbed within a few minutes even as she was being attended to. "The woman came gasping to the hospital. She carried a report from Ardent Ganpati hospital as per which she had tested positive for dengue.

NEW DELHI: A week after the parents of a seven-year-old committed suicide for failing to get a bed for their child suffering from dengue which led to his death, a similar case has come to light from Sriniwaspuri in South Delhi.
Aman, a six year old child, died due to dengue. His parents claim Aman was first taken to Safdarjung hospital on Wednesday last week but they did not admit him.

Second dengue death in SCB

Cuttack, Sept 15: With the death of one more dengue patient at SCB Medical College and Hospital here Tuesday, the toll at the biggest hospital in the state has reached two this year.
SCB sources said the latest victim was a resident of Balasore and had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of medicine ward Monday. The patient had been diagnosed with dengue while he was in New Delhi recently. The first dengue death was recorded at the hospital in August.
SCB sources, meanwhile, said 44 persons, including 34 men and 10 women, diagnosed with dengue have been admitted to the hospital till Tuesday evening.
