Actor Vivek loses 13-year-old son to dengue, brain fever

CHENNAI: Tamil actor Vivek's son Prasanna Kumar, 13, died in a city hospital on Thursday of complications arising out of dengue and brain fever. He was undergoing treatment at the hospital for more than a month.
Sources at the SRM Institutes for Medical Science, Vadapalani, where the 13-year-old was admitted, said the cause of death was 'severe brain stem dysfunction, acute dengue hemorrhagic cerebellitis post infectious autoimmune encephalitis.' He was kept on and off ventilator throughout his hospitalisation. Initially he recovered from the illness, but suffered a relapse later and his condition worsened.

Girl?s death sparks dengue suspicion

Officials of the Health Department are waiting for medical report from the Christian Medical College (CMC) to ascertain the cause of death of a nine-year-old girl, who was admitted with fever on Thursday.
With reports doing the rounds that Aarthi, a resident of Nari Murugappa Mudali Street in Gudiyatham, died due to dengue, officials said the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
Aarthiwas admitted to the hospital on Thursday. CMC officials said her condition was bad when she was brought to the hospital and she was immediately taken to the Intensive Care Unit. However, she died on Thursday night.

A 50-year-old homemaker died after suffering from symptoms similar to that of dengue in Jyangra, near Baguiati, on Wednesday night.
Kaushalya Roy, a resident of Ward 11 of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, had been vomiting and suffering from fever since Monday. She had also come out in a rash.
Family members said an NS1 antigen test conducted on Tuesday at a private diagnostic centre in the locality had been positive for dengue. The woman, however, was not admitted to hospital.

Kolkata, Oct 27 (IANS): The toll from dengue in West Bengal has climbed to six with the death of a youth, an official said on Tuesday.
"We received a report of a death of a young man at a private hospital in Kolkata today (Tuesday). The toll for this year is six," said director of health services Biswaranjan Satpathy.
