Boy dies of dengue in Rajapalayam

Toll goes up to 8; 38 persons undergoing treatment

An 11-year-old boy belonging to Duraisamypuram in Rajapalayam died of dengue fever on Saturday.

The boy, Hari Prasad, had been undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Rajapalayam after he tested positive.

As his condition became very critical, he was referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here. Within a few minutes after he was brought to the paediatrics ward, the boy died despite efforts by the doctors to revive him.

With this, the total death toll due to dengue in Rajapalayam has gone up to eight, according to M.Kathiresan, Joint Director of Health Services, Virudhunagar district. Rajapalayam town has been battling with dengue virus since last month.

No amount of prayers could save 8-month-old Priyesh, who succumbed to dengue on Friday, after putting up a tough fight for over a month. Doctors at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Andheri, said this was the worst case of dengue they had seen since last monsoon, and Priyesh from Malad was one of its youngest victims.

Priyesh was admitted to Veena Nursing Home on December 13 after his family realised that he was running high temperature. Three days later, the baby started vomiting blood, prompting the nursing home to ask the family to shift him to a superspecialty set-up at Kokilaben. It was later diagnosed that Priyesh had been afflicted with a dangerous complication of dengue infection ? shock syndrome.

Mumbai tops list of dengue deaths in Maharashtra

Mumbai has received the dubious distinction of recording the highest number of dengue deaths in Maharashtra last year. According to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) statistics, 126 persons died of dengue in the state between January and December.

"Of these, 12 deaths were recorded in Mumbai, the highest in any municipal corporation or district area," said a senior health official from the state's National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP). Nagpur follows with eleven recorded dengue deaths. "Remote districts of Bhandara and Gondia have recorded 8 and 7 deaths respectively. All the other districts have recorded a maximum of up to three deaths or less," added the official.

In 2014, Maharashtra recorded 8,400 cases of dengue leaping ahead of the 5,600 cases recorded in 2013. According to the DHS, more cases were recorded in urban conglomerates than rural areas.

Boy dies of dengue

Following the death of a 9-year-old boy at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital with suspected symptoms of dengue, the district administration has further intensified anti-dengue operations in the western region of the district, bordering Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, where a few dengue deaths were reported in the recent past.

Sources in the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital said S. Rahul (9) of Seithur near Rajapalayam died at TVMCH on Sunday with symptoms of dengue. ?So far, six patients from Rajapalayam region, who were admitted to the TVMCH in critical condition with dengue symptoms have died,? the sources said.

Spurt in Dengue Cases Due to Unseasonal Rains: Docs

BENGALURU:The Health Department is on its toes after cases of dengue were reported much earlier than usual.

According to the data from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, 586 people across the state have tested positive for dengue from January to June 8 this year. “A 40-year-old woman died of dengue in Chitradurga. The incident happened last month and her blood sample confirmed dengue on June 3,” said Dr Prakash, State Surveillance Officer, Communicable Diseases.

Suspected dengue death in Dakshina Kannada, 10 positive cases

MANGALURU: With the onset of monsoon, dengue has resurfaced in the Dakshina Kannada district with one suspected death being reported on Saturday and 10 other persons testing positive for the disease.

As many as 10 positive cases have been reported of the 29 samples collected from Sullia taluk by the district surveillance unit.

District surveillance officer Dr Rajesh BV told TOI that a 48-year-old woman from Kasaragod-Puttur border area, who was admitted to a hospital here, died on Saturday. "We are yet to get the serum sample. We will test it for dengue antibodies. We will be able to confirm this within a couple of days after testing," he added.

Mohan (28) from Kadaga Nechipadpu is the person deceased. Two persons in Badiyadka and Kanhangad had died recently because of dengue.

70 people have been affected with dengue in Kasargod district. The shortage of drugs and doctors have also been reported here.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dengue fever continues to hold the state in its grip even as the Health Department is struggling to tackle the situation. Though various measures are being taken by Health officials to prevent the spread of the disease, figures reveal an increase of Dengue cases when compared to last year.

Director of Health Services in Charge Dr S Jayashankar confirmed that there was a slight increase in Dengue cases in the state this month when compared to the same period last year.

According to official figures, 70 confirmed cases and 179 suspected cases of Dengue were reported on Tuesday. Three Dengue related deaths were reported in June.
As per figures, 319 confirmed and 1,627suspected cases of Dengue are reported till now this month.

Mangaluru, Jun 17: In what can be called as the first dengue-related casualty in Dakshina Kannada district this season, a man from Beltangady taluk lost his life due to suspected dengue in a private hospital in the city late night on Monday June 15. A recently-married woman from Bhatkal also died of dengue the same day in Mangaluru.


Umesh, son of Sanjeeva Gowda from Kataje House in Neriya village, Beltangady taluk, was suffering from prolonged fever when he was admitted into a hospital here on Saturday. He breathed his last on Monday night.

Belthangady: Fever claims lives of two young children, dengue suspected

On Wednesday June 17, two children from the taluk, identified as Nauseena (9) from Malady and Dheeraj (30 months) from Kanyadi in Dharmasthala village died of mysterious fever.

Geetha Naik,48, who died a few days ago, tested positive for dengue after Elisa test. The patient was sent to a hospital in the city from Kasaragod-Puttur border area. She died on Saturday last.

Woman dies of dengue in Puttur, another case suspected in Belthangady

Dakshina Kannada has reported its first death due to dengue this year from Puttur taluk while Health Department officials suspect that the death of a student in Belthangady taluk on Wednesday too could be due to the fever.

According to District Disease Surveillance Officer B.V. Rajesh, 45-year-old Geetha Nayak from Padavannur village in Puttur taluk died a week ago due to dengue. It is confirmed now, he said.

City reports year's first dengue death

Bengaluru reported its first suspected dengue death this year on Monday. Thirteen-year-old Niveditha, a resident of Bommasandra in Anekal, died at St John?s Hospital in the City after her condition worsened due to the flu.

The victim was a Class 8 student at Vishwa Bharathi School in Bommasandra. She was suffering from high fever for the past few days, according to her relatives.

They said several other cases of dengue had been reported in Janata Colony where Niveditha resided.
