Re: Growing atypical pneumonia cases in Puebla

Note the red text - all samples still must go to INDRE. I hope they reconsider this at the emergency meeting at noon today.

Calls to call if you have cold symptoms

Pilar P?rez Luna Pilar Perez Luna

The secretary general of Section One of the National Union of Social Security (SNTSS), Reyes Rosas Hernandez urged people in general and particularly the health workers to be address immediately if symptoms of cold or similar to human influenza A H1N1 and inability to accept the offers.
This after it was announced that a local deputy in Teziutlan IMSS who refused to take the inability to five days, why he died, however, Reyes Hernandez specific than the medical cause of death was [atypical] pneumonia, not human influenza.
He noted that the sixth floor of the Hospital de San Alejandro del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social conditioning is especially to address human influenza cases are recorded in the institution, with the sole purpose of avoiding contagion to other beneficiaries.
He reported that when they are responding to 46 cases of infection by the virus at the Hospital of St. Alexander and statewide IMSS has served about 70 patients with the disease, specifies that all suspected cases are sending analyze the INDRE with the aim of verifying whether the person is a carrier of the disease.
So Reyes Hernandez reiterated that in case of health workers showing symptoms of flu or worse pictures similar to the H1N1 virus come to medical attention and possibly accept the inability to avoid any complications. Moreover SNTSS general secretary reported that a new hospital opportunities in Iztepec, which is a region of the Sierra Norte de Puebla, where attention is needed to indigenous people, but it takes at least 800 seats to medical specialists yet explained the problem to get them is that the National Review Residences offers few places each year.
He explained that each year are prepared only 5 thousand specialists throughout the country and that is just the number of doctors needed in the IMSS, in addition to those required by other agencies such as the ISSSTE and the Ministry of Health also said which this year admitted to hospitals of the IMSS only 150.
In another vein Reyes Hernandez said he hoped the new officer of the institution, the PAN's Francisco Fraile Garc?a, adding that these are difficult times and we must work together to provide greater opportunities for people unless it is to be reinforced in IMSS opportunities.
Finally the time reported that the Mexican Social Security Institute has treated more than 1 million 100 thousand poblano is served by IMSS and noted that before the year one of the tasks to delegate Francisco Fraile is to give continuity to the early opening Margaret's Hospital, as though that is already operating, though not every team has to give the necessary attention.

Reyes Hernandez Rosas (Secretary General, Sec. I, SNTSS) revealed number of deaths from SARS is higher than deaths from virus H1N1.

Keep in mind that the Spanish word for SARS does not appear in any of these articles - everytime you see SARS, the correct translation is "atypical pneumonia", which is caused by a variety of agents, including Pandemic H1N1. To me, diagnosing cases as due to "atypical pneumonia" during a flu pandemic is the equivalent of saying an H5N1 suspect died of lung inflammation - it's true, but it isn't that informative.

In fact, a literal reading would indicate that the number of deaths due to atypical pneumonia (anywhere in the world) would always be higher than that due to Pandemic H1N1, as any H1N1 death is an atypical pneumonia death, but not the other way around. I don't think this is what they are referring to, however.

Re: Growing atypical pneumonia cases in Puebla

Yes, alert, I believe Shiloh stated that in the very first post.

You are correct. I was just reposting that here for newcomers to this thread, because the word SARS has been peppered across this thread.

Route 72A driver dies of pneumonia, but suspect influenza AH1N1 E-Mail E-Mail

A driver of route 72 died yesterday of atypical pneumonia is still suspected of being infected with influenza virus A H1N1, so dealers and operators of this route, requested the authorities of the Ministry of Communications and Transport ( SCT) incorporate the work of fumigation and sanitation of the public transport units.

Ignacio Morales Paz, president of the Alliance Carriers Organization for Our Rights, said the contagion of respiratory diseases among the guild has picked up, arguing that lack appropriate measures to tackle the outbreak.

"The situation is serious because drivers already have many infections and we did not feel as dealers and carriers," he said.

The driver died, "said he was interned in the St. Alexander Hospital since last week and today is being mourned in a funeral home in the 11th and the 49th South West.

Re: Growing atypical pneumonia cases in Puebla

An older article - about 2 weeks old. I have made some small edits to the translation (besides the one referenced by Shiloh and Commonground) to correct errors. I believe the phrase "mutant virus" below refers to Pandemic H1N1 itself, not a mutation of H1N1. The comment that rapid tests have failed, IMO, means that they are recognized as unreliable, not that they are consistently coming up negative (or we would read that the cases are not influenza).

IMSS Subdelegate die from influenza
Reveló Reyes Hernández, líder sindical del instituto Revealed Reyes Hernandez, a union leader at the institute

Reyes Hernandez Rosas, IMSS union leader, said the institute in Teziutlan subdelegado died of the influenza virus AH1N1, which means that even the health authorities are protected from the third outbreak.

In interview, the union leader added that in addition there are 30 patients at the San Alejandro with pictures of atypical pneumonia and soon will be released if they are carriers of the new strain of virus, since it has already sent samples for analysis.

Meanwhile, epidemiological services acknowledged that [atypical pneumonia] had killed by an increase of 10 percent and the curve of cases is increasing.

Thus, although the State Government has ruled out increasing health alert by the third outbreak of influenza AH1N1, IMSS authorities in Puebla recognize the chaos, but as the delegate Puebla, Francisco Javier Bermúdez Almada, confirmed that 30 people are hospitalized in St. Alexander for getting the [AH1N1] flu, the union leader Reyes Hernandez reported that the local deputy Teziutlan died of the mutant strain.

"In the hospital of St. Alexander have identified eight possible cases of people with influenza AH1N1, nine others were hospitalized with [atypical pneumonia] and five more are in the emergency department with similar symptoms to the virus," said Hernandez Rosas.

The doctor said that neither union last April when the virus emerged in the country, the entity had registered an increase of patients, "so substantial".

Furthermore, the leader of Section One of the National Union of Social Security (SNTSS) recognized that rapid tests have failed, so now only await confirmatory results from the National Institute of Epidemiological Reference (INDRE) clarified cases influenza in Puebla.

He said in recent days there have been no patient deaths from the virus mutant, except last week when the local deputy died TRAC.

Although the figures provided are different from health authorities acknowledged that all clinics are serving the state of respiratory disease cases to be considered to increase preventive measures.

"There is a surge of cases of influenza, both in outpatients and hospitalized, the numbers have more than doubled compared to the number of patients who had a week or ten days ago," he said.

Counterfeit vaccines offered in hospitals vs. AH1N1

The Secretary of Health, José Alfredo Arango Garcia, said this is the first time that seasonal influenza is combated in this health campaign

The head of Health Services (SSA), José Alfredo Arango Garcia, admitted to all health officials in the state that the influenza vaccine in December AH1N1 that they will be overwhelmed. He also stressed again that in the Hospital Angeles have offered false influenza vaccines.

The cabinet official acknowledged the increased deaths from atypical pneumonia and did not rule out that these were caused by [the] new virus, but recommended to wait for the confirmation of cases by the National Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (Indre).

This, during the inauguration of the National Health Week, which began with a significant delay-Governor Mario Marin apologized claiming a tour with the Ministry of Social Development, and in which he invested 59 million pesos in purchasing drugs and medical equipment.

During the protocol ceremony, the Secretary of Health, José Alfredo Arango Garcia, said this is the first time that seasonal influenza is combated in the health campaign. This is to prevent the spread of the virus that can mutate into the fatal AH1N1. [Not a mistranslation - an error - seasonal flu does not mutate into Pandemic H1N1, at least not in the sense the author means -alert].

After announcing in December that the country would reach only 20 million vaccines against this mutant strain, admitted that they will not be enough, so that already allocated 300 million pesos for the purchase of equipment for the areas of emergency system health state.

The official said in private hospitals, including Los Angeles, offered false AH1N1 influenza vaccine, said Health Secretary Alfredo Arango Garcia, who explained that the hoax was exposed before the State Board of Health.

He recalled that the Health Services found that in the Hospital Angeles doctor offered AH1N1 influenza vaccine, when in fact it did prevent seasonal influenza.

At the moment neither [Mexico or Puebla have AH1N1 vaccine] said Arango Garcia, and anticipated that this medication into the body in mid-November, after the Federal Ministry of Health made the relevant purchases.

At the end of the event, conference, Maria de Jesus Gutierrez Today, Director of Epidemiological Surveillance of the federal Health Secretariat (SSA), said that only 10 percent of the carriers of influenza AH1N1 develops a critical table that can reach death . The federal official also informed that the SSA has noted an increase in deaths from respiratory disease, which means that states must be vigilant and to modify its surveillance schemes to a new pandemic. The Third National Vaccination Week, which prompted Gov. Mario Marin and authorities of the Ministry of Health, involves the application of one million 288 thousand doses against seasonal influenza, measles, rubella and tetanus.

590 thousand doses of influenza, 202 thousand are for children under five years and the rest for seniors.

OK. That is the same text I put in red from the previous post, and I believe it is a mistranslation. The Spanish is "el nuevo virus", which literally translates into "the new virus", which I believe is a reference to the previously mentioned H1N1. If they wanted to suggest another novel virus, they would have likely written "un nuevo virus", meaning "a new virus".

Also keep in mind that INDRE probably cannot detect a new virus or a mutation. If they really suspected a new virus, the samples would go to CDC or NML, as they did in April. What INDRE can detect is Pandemic H1N1.

But Google's (and your) translation is certainly much scarier.

Orizaba, Veracruz - By registering at least 10 deaths yesterday, mostly in the Hospital of the IMSS, coincidentally because of "atypical pneumonia" and puts into question actually is for that reason, but that is disguised by not recognize the health sector is influenza A (H1-N1).

This can be verified only by asking at funeral homes in the region, as in the Civil Registry of this city, the information is restricted to individuals and do not provide. Yesterday, in a veiled one funeral home the remains of two young professionals whose report of IMSS is "atypical pneumonia deaths."

The last cases of death in the IMSS Hospital and other health sector doctors deliver reports of deaths to this cause, but by the number and frequency with which they occur, there are suspicions that disguise the influenza A (H1-N1) to avoid panic among the people, he said.

Moreover, also with appropriate reservations, respiratory disease specialists who requested the favor of anonymity, explained that as the influenza virus is mutable, which arose when first detected, has already changed and the problem now lies that there is no vaccine in stock for that disease, and the others that are for regular influenza or flu, have only lapse at year end.

Therefore, it is predicted that this date and through December, cases of infection of either disease to continue rising, so called extreme caution and at least wash their hands at every moment and not just before eating especially when one has contact with many people. :tiphat:http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldeorizaba/notas/n1344783.htm

Exactly. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not (it might just be insufficient lab facilities), but it is clear that all of the increase in atypical pneumonia is due to Pandemic H1N1.

Re: Growing atypical pneumonia cases in Puebla

So the question is, are the numbers of cases of atypical pneumonia in this region as expected for pandemic H1N1 or are they are higher than seen elsewhere? Is there anything notable here if we adjust for numbers per 100,000 of population?

Re: Growing atypical pneumonia cases in Puebla

Looks like atypical pneumonia is happening elsewhere in Mexico. Here's an article about 4 deaths in Coahuila. So one has to ask, if it is not A/H1N1 that is killing noticible numbers in a short time period, what is it?

There is a protocol for these patients

The Mexican Social Security Institute, a slight increase in the number of patients likely to have influenza A (H1N1), to have 62 people that are served to rule out or confirm if they have HIV or not, of which 60 are 2 are adults and minors.

It revealed the borough chief of medical services of the IMSS Eduardo Ramon Morales Hern?ndez.

"Right now we have 62 patients with pneumonia, suspected cases and seasonal human influenza, in St. Alexander, are suspected cases, but all pneumonia deaths are going to Mexico at the National Medical Arbitration Commission who determines if the event positive or not, that make it through a lung biopsy is done. "

By stating that you have a protocol for these patients, the utmost care in care, so the sixth floor of the regional hospital of St. Alexander, exclusive to address this group of patients, keep them isolated.

"It takes a team to prevent further outbreaks, but we are looking to see how it behaves the problem, but it has already allocate a single apartment in Saint Alexander, the sixth to serve these patients."

He explained that in the case of the clinics smaller capacity, have an area of respiratory care to keep them isolated, with mouth covered, goggles, gowns and special antibacterial gel.

But in the case of family medicine clinics have been allocated specifically for the care of patients with some type of respiratory illness. Because there are clinics in other municipalities are complying with isolated cases, as in the hospital in Tehuacan and Teziutlan. :tiphat:http://www.periodicodigital.com.mx/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=99070&Itemid=67

Re: Growing atypical pneumonia cases in Puebla

Looks like atypical pneumonia is happening elsewhere in Mexico. Here's an article about 4 deaths in Coahuila. So one has to ask, if it is not A/H1N1 that is killing noticible numbers in a short time period, what is it?

.

I think it is H1N1. I think they are doing poor testing, and assuming that one negative test rules out H1N1. You're right - it's not just Puebla that is blaming deaths on atypical pneumonia instead of H1N1 - it's all of Mexico. I wonder if an "atypical pneumonia" diagnosis gets you treatment with Tamiflu - if they assuming that atypical pneumonia is bacterial, they might not be using Tamiflu, which would likely result in more deaths.

Re: Growing atypical pneumonia cases in Puebla

So there might be a very large undercount of deaths due to A/H1N1 in Mexico
