According to the secretary, every day, the mailboxes have been flooded with emails incorrect and do not correspond to the facts related to the new flu.

He described these messages as "urban legends" as they are not based on official data and statistics and do not have secure sources that become worthy of credibility. "All work and effort of the Secretariat of Health in distributing truthful information based on rigorous research and technical assessments, is hampered by the playback of messages and emails without foundation, which only serve to cause a panic in the population," he said.

"There is no reason to panic. We are alert and take all necessary precautions, it is a new virus, still little known. However its rate of mortality is very low, killing less than common flu, "explained.

There is no reason to panic because of the new flu, evaluate Tempor?o

Valor Online

BRASILIA - The Health Minister Jose Gomes Tempor?o, reaffirmed today in general in the House committee that the panic created around the new influenza (H1N1) is not beneficial to the country and stressed that the ministry is acting in accordance with the guidelines World Health Organization (WHO).

Tempor?o said the Brazilian health slowed the most - by 80 days - the entry of influenza virus in Brazil and this delay is an important milestone. He said that in this second time, with the virus now circulating in the national territory, the medical and hospital care has received attention of the ministry.

According to data presented by the Minister, the country recorded 192 deaths due to the new flu, and the mortality rate of 0.09, lower than the rate of 0.14 U.S.. The rate is established taking into account the number of deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants.

Criticized the hasty drafting of rankings that place the country on other countries in the number of dead. "This is an analysis rather fragile. The number of deaths should be considered in relation to population," he said.

The minister also pointed out that 43% of patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome caused by H1N1 viruses have at least one risk factor. Among patients with common flu, 39% have at least one risk factor involved.

Fit into the group at risk, mainly individuals with respiratory diseases, pregnant women, children under five years, immunocompromised patients and heart disease.

The minister said that the total deaths in Brazil, 28 were pregnant women. Moreover, other 107 women were cured. "Furthermore, 30% of pregnant women who died had at least one additional risk factor such as hypertension," noted Tempor?o.

The minister also responded to criticism relating to the provision of treatment in the country. According to him, until now, the Ministry of Health gave the state 392,621 to complete treatment kits. In the same period, the Unified Health System (SUS) identified 28 thousand cases of all types of influenza. "You can take off with the demand."

By the end of August, the ministry will receive 800 thousand more treatments that are delivered immediately to states and municipalities. "The medicine is free for all people in need," he said.

"Evaluating the trivialisation and irresponsible use of medicine," said the minister yet. He noted that the virus may display resistance to the drug and you can buy medicines without prescription in Brazil.

Tempor?o explained that Brazil is not using the other medicine, in addition to Tamiflu, to combat H1N1 - the zanamivir, the trade name Relenza. At the time of the drugs were purchased, the zanamivir did not register in the country and is now being stored in a strategic, if Tamiflu is no longer effective. In addition, zanamivir is the least practical, as it should be sucked orally.

According to the minister, also made sense to do the test for diagnosis of influenza caused by H1N1. "There are two circulating virus, the symptoms are similar and the treatment is the same."

Tempor?o reported that the Instituto Butantan produce the vaccine in Brazil. To complement the country purchase of laboratory doses, since the production is not sufficient to meet demand.

New flu is the first death in the region

It was confirmed yesterday the first death caused by the new flu in the region. The case is not in Campo Mourao, a fact confirmed by the municipal secretary of Health Paul Davidoff. In the bulletin published by the State Department of Health (SESA) is only that the victim is the 11th Regional Health, based in Campo Mour?o and covering the 25 municipalities of Comcam.

The victim is an adult, male and died on July 26.
The region continues with 13 confirmed cases of the disease, and five are from Campo Mour?o. In Paran?, were confirmed at the end of yesterday afternoon, eight more deaths caused by new influenza, bringing to 39 the number of deaths.

The new deaths occurred in the region of Curitiba (5), Jacarezinho (1), Maring? (1) and Campo Mour?o (1). The patients died between 25 July and 05 August. Of the 39 deaths, 56% were men and women 44% female. The deaths occurred between days 14 July and 06 August.

The new report confirms 166 new cases of the disease in the state. With these results are 950 confirmed cases. Other 1000 samples awaiting analysis and 1476 were discarded.

States with confirmed cases - Paranagu? (16), Curitiba (621), Ponta Grossa (21), Irati (10), Guarapuava (4), Union of Victoria (7), Pato Branco (2), Francisco Beltr?o (5), Foz do Igua?u (31), Cascavel (20), Campo Mour?o (13), Umuarama (4), Cianorte (12), Paranava? (8), Maring? (19), Apucarana (7), Londrina (47), Cornelius Proc?pio (38), Jacarezinho (9), Toledo (10) and Tel?maco Borba (2).

Electronic messages - much more dangerous than the new new influenza virus (H1N1), the virtual terrorism triggered by the disease have been responsible for causing unnecessary panic and lead concerns. Daily, the mailboxes have been flooded with emails incorrect and do not correspond to the facts related to the new flu.

The Secretary of Health, Gilberto Martin, those messages classified as "urban legends" as they are not based on official data and statistics and do not have secure sources that become worthy of credibility. "All work and effort of the Secretariat of Health in distributing truthful information based on rigorous research and technical assessments, is hampered by the playback of messages and emails without foundation, which only serve to cause a panic in the population," he says.

Martin explains that, as Secretary of Health and Medical, its biggest interest is to protect people and keep them well informed. "There is no reason to panic. We are alert and take all necessary precautions, it is a new virus, still little known. However its rate of mortality is very low, killing less than common flu, "explains.
