The first fatal victim of the new flu in Pernambuco is a mining, living in Belo Horizonte, who died

Young died of Acute respiratory distress syndrome, a disease exacerbated by the swine flu
Rafael Dias / DP / D.A Press

yesterday at 5:30 a.m., after 15 days hospitalized in the ICU of Hospital Prontolinda (Olinda). A couple of 17 years, identified only as Ludmila, not resisted a two cardiorespiratory stops due to a severe bacterial pneumonia, which was acquired after contact with the virus A1H1N1. The infection was confirmed in the girl last week for laboratory examination. Therefore, increases to three the number of the new flu deaths in the Northeast. Yesterday, a man of 50 years died in Salvador (BA) also with the diagnosis of disease. A week ago, a university nursing, 31 years of Jo?o Pessoa (PB) opened the sad statistics in the region.

The loading of the body of the girl in a mining plane was heading to Belo Horizonte for the 3am today. After being released at the end of the morning, the body was embalmed in the afternoon of Peace Cemetery Address in Paulista (Metropolitan Region of Recife) - the company hired by relatives of the Air France flight 447 - and taken straight to the airport in Recife yet early evening yesterday. The girl's mother, single parent who is personally monitoring the case, the doctors and the hospital did not want to talk to journalists. The advice of the press Prontolinda limited to disclose a note at the end of the morning, which confirmed the death.

In an interview convened on an emergency, the Secretary of Health of Pernambuco (SES-SP) considered the death as an isolated case and stated that there is no real reason for people to panic. According to the epidemiology of SES, the number of people killed by the new flu is still well below the amount of deaths by influenza and pneumonia common in the state. Throughout the past year, 1,196 were killed. "From a family, it is clear that death is very serious. But a case of death is small when we take this reference," he argued Dem?trius Montenegro, infectologist the Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital (Huoc), reference in the treatment of disease in state.

CAUSE - The information passed by the SES give Prontolinda account that the cause of death of the girl was in acute respiratory distress syndrome, (Sara). This is an inflammation of the lungs which drastically reduces the capacity for respiration, which may have aggravated the clinical picture. "The fact she was born prematurely is not a risk factor. She was healthy. Any infection or seasonal influenza A is severe and can lead to death," says Montenegro.

Jacyr Ferreira, director general of control of diseases and disorders of the SES, said still to be made a research to know how the couple got the new flu. The most likely hypothesis is that the infection occurred outside in Minas Gerais since the first symptoms appeared only in the last 14 days, one day after her arrival in Pernambuco, which has spent holidays in Porto de Galinhas with his mother and friends . Other colleagues also apresentaramsintomas, but only if it evolved.

Even with the confirmation of the first death, the SES said that will not change the strategy that has adopted to contain the advance of the virus in the state. This Thursday there should be a further meeting with representatives of 17 private hospitals. And until the weekend, is expected to increase five to 29 beds (for seven ICU) of Huoc to care for serious cases.

Still according to the SES, there is no direct transmission of swine influenza in Pernambuco, only one suspected case. All others were sent by people who traveled or came into contact with people from other states or countries infected. So far, 35 are confirmed cases, 26 suspect and 69 disposed in the state.
