Fresh cases of coronavirus in Queensland and New South Wales overnight have raised the number of confirmed cases in Australia.


Two fresh cases of coronavirus in Queensland and New South Wales overnight have raised confirmed cases in Australia to 61.

New South Wales now has the highest number of cases with 28 infected.

Victoria has 10 cases and there are one each in Northern Territory and Tasmania.

South Australia has 7 confirmed cases.

Coronavirus claims its third Australian victim
A NSW man in his 80s has died after contracting coronavirus in his Sydney aged care home, taking the nationwide death toll to three.

The 82-year-old was on Wednesday confirmed to have COVID-19 after he picked up the virus from an infected aged care worker in her 50s at BaptistCare’s Dorothy Henderson Lodge in Macquarie Park.

He died overnight in hospital, chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant said...

St Vincent’s Hospital is searching for patients who may have been exposed to the coronavirus after a man who presented to the hospital was diagnosed with COVID-19.

The man in his 70s was in the Darlinghurst emergency department on Friday. He has not recently travelled overseas and the source of his infection is not known...

The man is one of two newly confirmed cases of coronavirus in NSW, taking the state total to 40.

The other case is a man in his 40s who recently travelled overseas. No other details about the case were available on Sunday night...

A boy and a girl, who are both in Year 10 at St Patrick's Marist College in Dundas, in the city's north-west, have tested positive for the illness, it has been confirmed.

Coronavirus Australia: Cases spike in NSW as schools brace for rolling closures

An additional eight cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in NSW taking the state’s total to 55.

The “new normal” of the global COVID-19 outbreak is starting to bite in Sydney, with schools bracing for temporary closures and fears of lasting economic damage.

The latest cases include a woman in her 20s who had contact with a previously confirmed case at Ryde Hospital, a woman in her 40s who recently returned from South Korea and a Victorian man in his 20s who recently returned from Hong Kong.

NSW Health is separately working to establish how three others were infected: two women in their 30s and 40s and a man in his 70s.

Two other cases are related to the outbreak at the Dorothy Henderson Lodge nursing home in Macquarie Park...

Coronavirus COVID-19 clinics open in Perth hospitals for high-risk patients

The first of Western Australia's specialist coronavirus clinics have opened in Perth, with more than 30 people queueing up outside Royal Perth Hospital's Ainslie House before the clinic even opened its doors this morning.
Key points:

COVID clinics are open from today at three major Perth hospitals
Only people who meet certain criteria should present for testing
The Government may look to extend this to the regions as needed

The State Government last week announced three clinics would open to cater for an expected demand in testing for COVID-19 for those who displayed symptoms and had recently returned from overseas.

So far, there have been six confirmed cases of the virus in WA.

The latest was a man in his 40s, whose mother had recently returned from Indonesia and tested positive.

Meanwhile a woman in her 60s also tested positive for COVID-19 after her husband returned from Iran — which is dealing with one of the largest outbreaks of the disease outside China...
