Yes, your pets can get coronavirus.
But it’s not the scary one. And they can’t give it you.
...
Infection from some animals is possible when we share similar receptors on the surface of our cells, according to Peter Daszak, president of EcoHealth Alliance, which studies the origins of viruses. If an animal virus can bind to a human cell receptor, it makes us sick. That’s probably what’s behind the current outbreak; we share similar cell receptors with bats, known carriers of the new virus.
But cats, dogs and humans are just too different.
There have been no reported cases of pets getting the new human virus. And there don’t seem to be any cases of people giving the human virus to their pets.
What appears to be a sincere, emotional and authentic video from within Wuhan Jan 29-30th, 2020.
Based on the reporting by this individual it seems that the number of confirmed cases from within Wuhan could be artificially low due to the lack of testing kits.
The video has English captions - it gets pretty intense towards the end.

We will also start to remove content with false claims or conspiracy theories that have been flagged by leading global health organizations and local health authorities that could cause harm to people who believe them. We are doing this as an extension of our existing policies to remove content that could cause physical harm. We’re focusing on claims that are designed to discourage treatment or taking appropriate precautions.

There really should be a sticky which tracks the total number of cases and deaths, both inside China as well as in the rest of the world.
There had been a superb post earlier which showed these data plotted on a semi log scale, which really allowed one to monitor the overall extent of the outbreak.
It would also give an indication of the effectiveness of the countermeasures, which were pretty much nil through to the end of last week.
