RIO DE JANEIRO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian army will start patrolling the country's border with Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay in a bid to contain the spread of the A/H1N1 flu, the government said Friday.

The operation will start Monday in 34 towns of three southern border states (Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Parana) after the Health Ministry admitted that the A/H1N1 flu virus was spreading in Brazil.

Health Ministry agents will also participate in the 90-day operation. All the people entering Brazil will be monitored and given information about the A/H1N1 flu.

There are 1,175 confirmed cases of the A/H1N1 flu and 3,926 suspected cases in Brazil, according to the Health Ministry. So far, 11 people have died from the A/H1N1 flu in the country.
