Panama City, Dec 28 (EFE).- The Panamanian health authorities reported this Wednesday that they detected the first case of monkeypox in a woman, and that the accumulated number of confirmed infections stood at 79.
"To date, a new case of monkeypox has been registered, adding 79 accumulated cases in the country," of which 78 are men and one woman. The latter "was detected 15 days ago," the Ministry of Health (Minsa) said in a statement.

"The age groups affected are: 15-19 years 1 case (19 years); 20-24 years 7 cases; 25-34 years 39 cases; 35-49 years 23 cases, and 50-51 years 9 cases", detailed the official source.
The Minsa reported that 46 doses of the monkeypox vaccine have been applied, which in this country is administered "to people who have been exposed to another infected person", and "to medical or health personnel who have been neglected in some way in biosafety measures and consider that there is some risk", as explained by the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre.
The health entity recalled that monkeypox is spread from person to person through skin lesions of an infected person, respiratory and body fluids, and also through infected clothing or any surface that has come into contact with the lesions.
Panama declared a health alert for monkeypox on May 24 and on July 5 reported its first case in a 30-year-old man who only had fever, as reported at the time...
