Coronavirus: Absence of new cases in Tunisia
hespress FR
May 11, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.
The Tunisian Minister of Health on Monday called on the population to remain vigilant, even if no new patient of Covid-19 was registered for the first time since March 2, a week after the lightening of a strict confinement and precocious.
The number of cases remained unchanged on Sunday at 1,032 identified cases, including 45 deaths - a figure stable for several days - and 700 people officially recovered.
"We should not be satisfied with this figure, it is true that it cheers up, but it may be that tomorrow there will be a return of cases," however warned the Minister of Health, Abdellatif Mekki.
He was speaking at a hearing before the health committee in parliament, and lamented that the rules had been less followed in recent days.
Even with the deconfinement, we must continue to respect the rules of hygiene and distancing, insisted Mr. Mekki.
Out of 292 tests carried out on Sunday, only 10 people already counted as sick were tested positive.
Tunisia closed its schools, places of worship and non-essential businesses as early as mid-March, while the country had fewer than 20 cases.
A night curfew is in place, and the schools will remain closed until September: only students taking the bac will have a month of lessons before the exam in late June.
Healthcare workers at Covid units, as well as returnees from abroad, must stay in isolation for 14 days in hotels and homes, and out-of-hospital patients are also in compulsory isolation outside their homes. They cannot return home until they test negative.
A sign of the slowdown of the epidemic: since the end of April, each patient now infects less than one person.
The reproduction rate, which measures the number of people infected by a sick person on average, is currently 0.85, against 3 in early March, according to the Ministry of Health.
Hospital services dedicated to Covid, which have never been exceeded, are currently idling: 11 people affected by the new coronavirus are currently hospitalized, according to the ministry.
Hairdressers officially raised their curtains on Monday in Tunisia, and cafes and mosques are scheduled to reopen on May 24.

Under the government's decision, customers have to take away with the ordered drinks and meals without staying in the cafes and restaurants, in order to avoid gatherings.
.....
The gradual opening of the economy remains dependent on compliance with the preventive measures, including wearing masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
