Coronavirus in Mexico: 449 deaths and 5,847 confirmed cases
The country is preparing to enter the imminent phase 3 of the epidemic, where the number of infections is expected to intensify and accelerate; the authorities are already preparing for the worst stage
        April 15, 2020

Mexican health authorities reported Wednesday that the number of coronavirus fatalities in the country amounts to 449 and the number of cases confirmed by COVID-19 is already 5,847.

The suspected cases are already 11,717 and the negative ones number 25,138 people, for a grand total of 42,702 patients studied.

The three states with the most positive numbers for COVID-19 are Mexico City, with 1,686 people, followed by the State of Mexico, with 659 infected, and Baja California, with 464 patients. Colima, with seven infected people, is the federative entity with the least positives so far.

"The contagion is increasingly accelerated," said the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo L?pez-Gatell. "Transmission in the country is geographically focused. That is, in urban areas. Surbubanas or rural areas do not yet have a very relevant transmission ”, he completed.

In contrast, the incidence rate of confirmed cases puts Baja California Sur in first place, with 20 infected per 100,000 inhabitants. It is followed by the Mexican capital and Quintana Roo, which have more than 15 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Of all those infected in Mexico, 58% are men and the remaining 42% are women and, given the distribution by age group, “there is a predominance of mild cases among young adults and in older adults the frequency is higher in severe cases L?pez-Gatell added.

However, this does not mean that there are no serious cases among young adults or that there are no mild cases among older people. "Yes there are," said the official.

Among those infected so far, there are 64.32% of outpatient cases. Stable inpatients represent 11% of the total, that is, 643 people. For their part, serious cases are already 20.3%, which represents 1,187 patients. The intubated are 256, 4.38% of the total.

If suspected cases were counted alongside confirmed cases, the total number of people with outpatient cases would be 12,904. Those who are hospitalized stable are 1,757 and the serious amount to 2,481. The intubated ones would happen to 422 in total.

The total number of cases would rise, bringing together people suspected of COVID-19 and those who tested positive, would add 17,564 cases. The deaths, using the same sum, would make up a total of 541 deaths, since the suspects so far are 92 cases.

Finally, L?pez-Gatell announced "good news" in the midst of the health emergency that Mexico is undergoing: 2,282 people have already recovered from COVID-19, that is, 39% of patients who have contracted it so far and who tested positive.

With the imminent arrival of phase 3 due to the coronavirus epidemic in Mexico, which "is very close" to being enacted, according to L?pez-Gatell, hospitals are also preparing to care for dozens of those infected.

For this reason, the Ministry of Health (SSa) issued a document to the directors of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) which details how the application of the Hospital Reconversion will be, in which doctors, nurses, stretcher bearers, among others Members of the Institute must consider from phase 3 of contingency for COVID-19 in the country.

The document explains that some hospitals in the country will become COVID-19 units, and at least 184 will be available for patient care.

Coronavirus in Mexico: 486 deaths and 6,297 confirmed cases
L?pez-Gatell affirmed that the end of the first cycle of the epidemic is projected for the end of June
          April 16, 2020

In Mexico, the number of cases of people infected with COVID-19 increased to 6,297 confirmed patients, reported the Ministry of Health (SSa). The death toll rose to 486.

Suspicious cases are 12,340, while negative cases are 26,511. In the country there is a total of 45,148 people studied.

Among the cases confirmed by federal entity, Mexico City is first with 1828 cases, the State of Mexico with 695 cases, and Baja California with 505 cases. Durango and Colima are the two states with the least, with 17 and seven cases, respectively.

The cumulative incidence rate is a comparison made with the population base. The largest is in Baja California Sur, Mexico City, and Quintana Roo, and the smallest in Durango and Chiapas.

Alomia affirmed that it is a "much better" way of comparing the effects on each of the states. The incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the country is 4.92.

Globally, with the global distribution of confirmed cases by WHO region, there are a total of 1,991,562 confirmed cases. Cases confirmed in the last 14 days, or those that are still active and contagious, represent 55% of the total. The percentage yesterday was 57%. The global case fatality rate remains at 6.6%.

The American continent hosts 44.8% of confirmed cases in the last 14 days, while Europe 46.6%. Alom?a explained that it is because countries on the European continent are in the downward phase.

A new map with the burden of municipal disease was presented: according to the Ministry of Health, there are 2,470 municipalities in Mexico, while the total of municipalities with at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 is 483 or 19.6%.

The National Sana Distance Day will focus on those municipalities and on the dates implemented and reported during the morning conference this Thursday. The municipal map will be updated daily with the cuts of the new cases. Alom?a asked to be "vigilant" between now and May 17, the first date set to restart activities based on the measures.

In the distribution of confirmed cases by patient type and age group, the highest number of outpatient cases are found in the ranges of 30 to 34 years and 35 to 39 years. It is from 60 to 64 years old that all hospitalized cases are older than outpatients, thus proving that age is a risk factor for developing a serious disease.

58% of confirmed patients in Mexico belong to men, while 42% are women.

64% of confirmed cases have been in outpatients, while 11.04% are stable hospitalized, 20.41% severe hospitalized, and 4.56% intubated hospitalized.

Of the 12,340 suspected cases in the country awaiting confirmatory results, 9,578 are classified as mild, 1,201 as stable, 1,393 as severe, and 168 as intubated. There are 101 suspicious deaths in the country, which after performing the confirmatory test can be identified by COVID-19.

Alomia demonstrated with a graph and reported that from April 6 and 7 a more stable trend could be observed regarding the number of deaths in Mexico.

Deaths associated with comorbidity and risk factors are hypertension (43.42%), diabetes (37.86%), obesity (37.72%), smoking (11.73%), lung diseases (10.70%), chronic kidney failure (6.79%), disease cardiovascular (6.79%), immunosuppression (5.97%), asthma (3.50%), and HIV or AIDS (0.41%).

Men continue to be the highest proportion of people who have died, with 70%, while 30% belong to women.

Within the graph of lethality and deaths by age group there are three: those under 25, those between 25 and 59, and those over 60. The rate is 0.3, 5.7, and 17.6, respectively.

The case fatality for confirmed cases in the country is 7.72, while by state entity it is higher in the state of Durango with 23.53 and Chihuaha with 21.30. The minor is in Aguascalientes with 2.82.

In the viral disease positivity index, the line of percentages of influenza cases begins high but falls from epidemiological week 11 and remains below. On the other hand, the COVID-19 positivity index has its highest point in week 15 with 21.68%. This week, the 16th, remains at 16.4

However, if you suffer from obesity, diabetes or any other type of comorbidity, there is a greater chance that an unfortunate outcome will be reached, which is why the insistence that they stay home and comply with mitigation measures, otherwise they will begin. to increase contagions.

Coronavirus in Mexico: 686 deaths and 8,261 confirmed cases
The epidemic curve continues to rise sharply; however, the Ministry of Health explained that this was already planned
                  April 19, 2020

During the evening press conference on Sunday, April 19, the Ministry of Health (SSa) confirmed that in Mexico there are already 686 deaths from coronavirus, as well as 8,261 confirmed cases.

During the presentation of the technical report on the progress of COVID-19 in the country, which takes place daily at the National Palace at 7:00 p.m., Hugo L?pez-Gatell, undersecretary of prevention and health promotion, explained that the main cities According to their estimates, the country is and will continue to be the most affected by COVID-19, where Mexico City will be the region with the most cases.

After the national capital, the State of Mexico, Baja California, Sinaloa and Puebla are the entities with the most cases of the new coronavirus. Likewise, it reported the five entities with the fewest registered cases, which are Campeche, Nayarit, Zacatecas, Durango and Colima. Data that also coincide with the estimates of the World Health Organization (WHO), since this health institution exposed given the characteristics of the virus, where there is a higher concentration of the population, there will be more cases of COVID-19.

He also recalled that in the republic, there are several metropolitan regions with high rates of epidemic incidence, where the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico tops the list, but that metropolises such as Guadalajara, Monterrey, zone of the municipality of Benito Ju?rez should not be neglected in Quintana Roo, the northern and border region of Tijuana and Mexicali in Baja California, as well as La Paz in Baja California Sur, and Culiac?n, the capital of Sinaloa, derived from the fact that these localities have "a higher speed of transmission of the virus, due to a higher population rate ”.

L?pez-Gatell could not miss once again the opportunity to reiterate the importance of social isolation to combat the epidemic curve, and noted that despite the dissemination of contrary messages in the media or social networks, it is important to stay home.

Despite the fact that the epidemic situation in Mexico continues in Phase 2, the health authorities are already prepared for Phase 3, which is expected to be of massive contagion. For this reason, on Thursday, April 16, the Mexican government reported that the National Sana Distance Day will continue until May 30, that is, 30 days more than what was originally scheduled to maintain the mitigation measures of the coronavirus epidemic, as well as maintaining the protection of older adults and people prone to COVID-19 with stronger symptoms that could cause death.

Apart from the demographic older than 60 years of age, the most vulnerable people to this disease are pregnant women, obese people, hypertensive people, with diabetes or with a compromised immune system (people undergoing chemotherapy or who are patients living with HIV /AIDS).

Both Alom?a and L?pez-Gatell have reiterated that the deaths in Mexico are due to the fact that those infected with coronaviruses had at least two factors of the aforementioned, which occurred in very different ways and that do not make the older adults exclusive, since This week, the first death of a person under 25 was also recorded. This is a girl who had Down syndrome; The SSa undersecretary explained that this condition is often accompanied by problems in the heart, lungs and immune system, which ended up affecting the little girl who died on April 16.

According to official calculations, the highest number of infections is expected between May 3 and 10; however, the health authorities do not dismiss different pandemic scenarios and insist on social isolation policies to avoid the collapse of the institutions responsible for the health of Mexicans.

Coronavirus in Mexico: 1,069 deaths and 11,633 confirmed cases
The Undersecretary of Health, Hugo L?pez-Gatell, announced that it is estimated that 8 out of 10 critically ill Mexicans will die from COVID-19
                            April 23, 2020

In Mexico, the number of cases of people infected with COVID-19 increased to 11,633 confirmed patients, reported the Ministry of Health (SSa) this Thursday. The death toll rose to 1,069.

Jos? Luis Alom?a, General Director of Epidemiology, reported that there are 7,588 accumulated suspected cases and 39,664 accumulated negative cases. In the country there are 4,127 confirmed active cases and a total of 58,885 people studied.

The confirmed cases accumulated by state entity as of April 23 are: 3,157 in Mexico City, 1,734 in the State of Mexico, and 1,085 in Baja California. Durango, with 38, and Colima, with 16, are the states with the lowest numbers.

The active epidemic, the cases confirmed in the last 14 days, is concentrated in Mexico City with 1,268 cases, the State of Mexico with 642, and Baja California with 290. The least amount is found in San Luis Potos?, with 13, and Colima, with seven.

The incidence rate of active cases in Mexico is 3.22 per 100,000 inhabitants. By state, the highest rates are in Mexico City, Tabasco, and Baja California; and the least in Jalisco and San Luis Potos?.

Alomia also reported that the graph of the accumulated active cases by date of onset of symptoms, from April 10 to 22, is "maintained": with around 4,000 cases in the last four or five days.

On the other hand, within the accumulated deaths by state entity from March 18 to April 23, Mexico City is the entity with the highest number, followed by Baja California and the State of Mexico. The three states with the fewest deaths are Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, and Colima.

Within the graph of confirmed and suspected cases by date of onset of symptoms and date of registration, Alom?a stated that the trend of confirmed cases can continue or continue depending on the results of people with suspected cases.

Mexico is approaching the most difficult part of the pandemic, assured the World Health Organization (WHO), a panorama that is beginning to be perceived in the country that already registered the first day of the pandemic with more than a thousand infections in the past 22 of April.

The undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo L?pez-Gatell, announced this Wednesday that it is estimated that 8 out of 10 critically ill Mexicans will die from COVID-19.

Critically ill people, who have severe respiratory failure, will require intensive therapy treatment with mechanical ventilatory support, that is, intubation. But the percentage of people who could lose the battle against the disease is between 70 and 80%.

On April 21, during the morning conference of President Andr?s Manuel L?pez Obrador, it was decreed that Mexico is formally in phase 3 of the coronavirus pandemic.

It will be necessary to maintain and extend the National Sana Distancia Day until May 30, 2020, in addition to the immediate suspension from March 30 to May 30, 2020 of non-essential activities to decrease the burden of the disease.

The authorities informed that it is necessary to continue respecting the orders of Sana Distancia in order to keep the number of infected people as small as possible and maintain availability of beds and resources for patients who require it.

If there is doubt about the symptoms, you can go to the information mechanisms: 800-004-4800 and 911 and Susana Distancia through WhatsApp.
