"Initially, they were told that there was one mattress that they needed to deal with, and now we are finding out that there may have been three mattresses that this man had slept on," Sayed said.
All of those mattresses, along with sheets, towels, and other items that could be infected with the Ebola virus have been confiscated and will be incinerated.

Perhaps they moved him to progressively nicer beds as he became sicker? I can imagine a visiting relative sleeping on a fold-out, but then getting a real bed if they are ill? Hard to know, but no matter the scenario it likely implies quite a lot of exposures.
Why is everyone so **** cavalier about PPE? I know they don't want to incite panic, but seriously?!

This is going to be a problem in the future, when additional families need quarantine as their home has housed an infected patient.

I think it was probably both.
Working for a major West Coast health care provider, I can understand how this can happen.
The doctors get used to using the EHR, which displays information in a certain way, if the travel history is not prominently displayed, and is in an area where you have to click down into it, a doctor in a hurry (like an ER doc) may only glance at the summary screen and make a diagnosis based on that. Ancillary information wouldn't be considered or looked for unless the symptoms were strange enough to warrant further investigation. Since Ebola tends to present initially as flu a doctor may not even consider looking at Travel history if it is not automatically displayed with the rest of the info.
So tech glitch, the info was not on the front page.
Human glitch, the doc didn't bother to look. (and maybe the nurse didn't bother to bring it to any ones attention either)

I hope that every public health agency is watching how this is transpiring and lining up their resources for cleanup, waste disposal, quarantine and the needs of people in quarantine. It is fortunate that the family had community support, but not everyone will.
Although, churches have long been known to be of great help to their congregants in time of need, and it would be great if there were a liaison between public health and faith communities to help fill in the gaps in times of crisis when the needs are great.
