I can't find the exact quote right now, but wasn't containment and treatment for EVD delayed in the girl in Mali because they got a malaria diagnosis first, and only tested for ebola when her condition worsened?

Yes, that is true. Nancy Whitebol (sp?) also tested positive for malaria before they received a positive for ebola.

It was typhoid instead of malaria:

The girl was seen by health workers on Oct. 20 in Kayes but was referred to another hospital the next day where she tested positive for typhoid but was also bleeding from her nose. It was not until Oct. 23 that she tested positive for Ebola, WHO said.

In this case, it sounds like they will keep the patient isolated pending results of the test for ebola.
