This patient did not fit all of the screening guidelines, however we wanted to take an abundance of caution and have decided to place this patient in a special isolation room until we receive results from blood work that will tell us whether or not this patient has Ebola.

According to an updated statement from Methodist, doctors will not be able to confirm whether the patient has Ebola until later Sunday night. However, they have established a primary alternate diagnosis, meaning the patient could be sick with another illness that causes similar symptoms.

I can't find the exact quote right now, but wasn't containment and treatment for EVD delayed in the girl in Mali because they got a malaria diagnosis first, and only tested for ebola when her condition worsened?

Yes, that is true. Nancy Whitebol (sp?) also tested positive for malaria before they received a positive for ebola.

It was typhoid instead of malaria:

In this case, it sounds like they will keep the patient isolated pending results of the test for ebola.
