The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said infected Canada geese and wildfowl were found in West Park, Wolverhampton and Trittiford Mill Park in the Yardley Wood area.

People have been urged not to touch any sick or dead wild birds they come across and to keep pets on a lead.

The infectious A (H5N1) strain is currently the most common in the UK.

Across the Midlands, cases of avian flu have also been confirmed in Dudley, Coventry, Malvern Hills in Worcestershire and Kidsgrove and Cheddleton, in Staffordshire...

One hundred swans and geese dead as bird flu rages in London’s parks
His Majesty’s Warden of the Swans called it “unprecedented”
PA
By Ethan Croft

London’s parks marked a grim milestone this week in their battle against bird flu. One hundred swans and geese have now perished. Concern is growing at the London Swan Sanctuary. “We may have lost other birds as well,” a spokesperson told us.

There is an ongoing tussle with the Department for Environment, which has warned people not to feed the birds in case they cluster for food and spread the illness. “This is absolutely crazy,” the sanctuary said. “In the winter, birds have increased calorie needs to cope with the cold. To stop feeding them now is totally inhumane!”...

Bird flu confirmed in dead wild goose found in Castletown Harbour
4 hours ago

A wild goose found dead in a harbour in the south of the Isle of Man was infected with avian influenza, the government has confirmed.

Bird flu outbreak suspected at East Yorkshire nature reserve Published 34 minutes ago
By Stuart Harratt
BBC News

Staff at the North Cave Wetlands in East Yorkshire said they had "never seen mortality this high before".

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT), which runs the site, said samples from the dead black-headed gulls had been submitted for testing.

The trust said it was monitoring the situation and there were no plans to shut its reserves to the public.
