HYDERABAD: Three more people succumbed to H1N1 virus at Gandhi Hospital, taking the swine flu death toll in Telangana since January 1 to 69. Though the deaths occurred on March 8, authorities announced it only on Wednesday. The deceased were a 33-year-old male from Godavarikhani in Karimnagar, 70-year-old female from Musheerabad and a 30-year-old female from Gaddiannaram in Hyderabad.

Swine flu claims 3 more

Health officials on Wednesday confirmed three more deaths due to complications from swine flu. This include two women, a 78-year-old and a 30-year-old from Hyderabad who died at Gandhi hospital.

Another male patient from Karimnagar also died of complications due to H1N1, doctors here said.

With three more deaths, the death toll due to swine flu has touched 77 since January.

Hyderabad, March 17:
As many as 73 people have died due to swine flu in Telangana State so far this year, while 2,075 others tested positive for the H1N1 virus.
In a bulletin on Swine Flu (H1N1 visus) on Tuesday, Principal Secretary, Department of Health, Medical & Family Welfare, stated from January 1 to March 16 this year, as many as 6,415 samples have been tested, of which 2,075 were found positive. The number of deaths due of swine flu and other complications as on date is 73. It stated 103 samples have been sent for testing on Monday, out of which, 23 tested positive. The number of positive cases reported in the last six days (up to March 16) was 41, 46, 37, 45, 56 and 23, it said.

?In the current year from January 1 till March 17, 6,512 samples have been tested, out of which 2,083 are found to be positive. The number of deaths because of swine flu and other complications is 74 as on date,? as per a bulletin on swine flu issued by the state government in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
It said 8 out of 97 samples sent for testing on Tuesday are tested positive for the virus.

HYDERABAD: As many as seventy-six people have lost their lives to the swine flu and related health complications since January this year in Telangana.

A bulletin issued by the state government in Hyderabad today said 2,243 cases of swine flu infection were reported in the new year.

"From January 1 till March 29, 7,240 samples were tested, of which 2,243 were found to be positive. The number of deaths because of swine flu and other complications stood at 76," it said.

"In the current year from January 1 till April 6, 7,517 samples have been tested, out of which 2,306 were found to be positive. The number of deaths because of other complications and swine flu are 78 as on date," a bulletin on swine flu said in Hyderabad.

Swine flu shocks with a cruel return in summer


The disease claimed three lives in peak summer, disproving the belief that the H1N1 virus strikes only in cold conditions

A strange thing happened this summer. While temperatures hovered between 45 and 48 degrees Celsius in the State, and a large number succumbed to heat strokes during the period, three people died of swine flu at Gandhi Hospital.

Swine flu, a viral disease that originated in the United States and Mexico, was hitherto known to thrive only in cold weather. It is, evidently, not a seasonal ailment anymore.

The virus (H1N1) has completely gone ?local?, adjusted to the local climate, and has become a clear and present danger. Doctors say it is an ailment that one has to be prepared to deal with all year.

Woman tests positive for swine flu in city

After a gap of nearly three months, a swine flu case was detected in the city on Tuesday when a 24-year-old pregnant woman from Maddilapalem tested positive.

The patient is undergoing treatment at a private hospital near Collectorate and is on ventilator, according to District Medical and Health Officer J. Sarojini.

She was admitted to a corporate hospital in the city. The woman has been put on ventilator. Dr J Sarojini, Vizag District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), said, "The swine flu positive woman from Ganesh Nagar in Arilova was suffering from fever and flu like symptoms for some time. She has been confirmed positive for H1N1 virus.

VISAKHAPATNAM: The first swine flu death in Andhra Pradesh since April 2015 was reported on Monday with a 35-year-old woman from Arilova, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city, dying in the wee hours of Monday. This is the second confirmed swine flu case to be reported in coastal AP since April 2015.

The woman, a resident of Ganesh Nagar in Arilova, was suffering from fever and flu-like symptoms and was admitted in the hospital on Friday. Her test reports confirmed she was H1N1 positive on Sunday.

According to Dr J Sarojini, Vizag District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), the woman was already suffering from other ailments such as diabetes and heart problems apart from H1N1 and was put on ventilator support.

[h=1]21 H1N1 Cases Reported in Telengana[/h] HYDERABAD: A total of 21 swine flu cases were reported from August in the State, with five more being reported on Tuesday. A 32-year-old pregnant woman Maniamma, who tested positive for th H1N1 virus gave birth to twins after a ceaserian section.
She is still recovering from the flu, while the twins were taken to their home town due to which doctors could not ascertain if the newborns contracted the infection. ?We performed the surgery five days ago, and she gave birth to twins,? said Dr K Narasimhulu, Swine Flu Nodal officer at Gandhi Hospital.
Dr G Srinivas Rao, Special officer of Epidemic Cell said that Swine Flu diagnostic kits and medicines to treat the infection, would be provided free to patients admitted at private hospitals. ?We informed the same to private hospitals. A charge of Rs 5000 is collected for the tests otherwise. We mention on the test reports that tests are done free of cost,? Dr Srinivas said.
Except four, all the cases are from Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts. Most of them got treated at Gandhi Hospital. Treatment for Swine Flu is also offered at Fever Hospital, and at district hospitals.

As per the state government's statistics, Vizag district tops the swine flu chart this year with 39 positive cases being reported since January 2015, while the prevalence of swine flu has come down in other districts after March. Vizag recorded five new cases in August-September 2015 and also the death of a 35-year-old woman last month. This year, 543 suspected H1N1 cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh, out of which 195 were confirmed positive and 26 died.
