The first confirmed case of new coronavirus infection has been discovered in Slovenia. So far, it appears that the patient did not become infected with us. His condition is "quite good".

STA, 5 March 2020 - A second case of novel coronavirus infection in Slovenia was confirmed Thursday, Health Minister Aleš Šabeder said, with the person having been in contact with the first patient, who had been detected on Wednesday.

Šabeder said as the health authorities called a press conference to speak about the first case that they had just been informed about a second case, adding that the second patient had been in contact with the first one.

The authorities are rushing to identify other persons who have been in contact with the man who was confirmed as the first COVID-19 case in Slovenia yesterday. The Ljubljana physician who attended to the patient has already been isolated.

The information came in about a sixth person testing positive for the Coronavirus in Slovenia. Details are not available yet, but the report said it was a younger man from the Štajersko region, in the north-east tested positive for Coronavirus in Slovenia. Schools and universities remain open until further notice despite the rising number of confirmed cases with Coronavirus in Slovenia.

Statements to the press have been delivered by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Simona Repar Bornšek, and Nina Pirnat, Director of the National Institute of Public Health due to more confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Slovenia.

A further two infected with Coronavirus in Slovenia were a man and a woman who had traveled in Italy where they are presumed to have contracted the virus, Nina Pirnat, director of the National Public Health Institute, told the media yesterday after they confirmed more cases with Coronavirus in Slovenia.

Officials have reported an 8th case of coronavirus in Slovenia.
The first five cases were reported in Ljubljana, the 6th and 7th in Maribor, and the 8th in Metlika. All the infections originate from travel abroad. Health Minister Šabeder says closing the country's borders will not stop the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile tourism and hotel workers say the situation is serious, with many hotels recording cancellations. Other companies whose businesses are also being affected by the outbreak, are calling on government to introduce tax exemptions and sick pay subsidies.

Four new cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in Slovenia on Saturday, bringing the total number to 12, a press conference was told in Ljubljana.

A total of 785 persons have been tested by 2 pm today, and four new cases of infection have been confirmed today, bringing the total number of positive cases to 12, the Director of the National Institute of Public Health, Nina Pirnat, said.

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Slovenia has meanwhile risen by four to 16 since Saturday evening. According to media reports, the newly infected persons are a rescuer and two nurses from the Metlika area, who had been in contact with the infected doctor there, and a 31-year-old woman from the coast, who got ill while in Switzerland.

LJUBLJANA (Reuters) - Slovenia will start health checks along the border with Italy and at Ljubljana airport to stem the spread of coronavirus and will spend one billion euros to help companies likely to suffer a loss of business, officials said on Monday.

Health Minister Ales Sabeder said that from Tuesday the southeastern European country would also prohibit all indoor events for more than 100 people. It had banned indoor events with over 500 people on Saturday evening.

Sabeder told a news conference that major sports events, like World Cup skiing and ski jumping competitions, will be held without any spectators.

So far Slovenia has confirmed 23 cases of coronavirus and tested about 1,230 people. Its western border is with Italy, which has suffered one of the world’s most severe coronavirus outbreaks with 366 dead as of Sunday.

STA, 12 March 2020 - Outgoing Prime Minister Marjan Šarec announced that an epidemic would be declared in Slovenia on Thursday based on fresh data on the spreading of coronavirus in Slovenia. Restrictions will also be imposed on cargo transport as of Monday, when all educational institutions will be closed as well.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Slovenia rose by 25 from yesterday to 82 by 9am today.

STA, 14 March 2020 - Slovenia had 181 confirmed coronavirus cases by 2pm on Saturday, up by 40 since Friday, as the number continues to rise sharply.

Regional data show 75 cases confirmed in the general Ljubljana area, 39 in Novo Mesto, 27 in Celje and 13 in Maribor, the government announced on Twitter.

The figures reflect the largest clusters of cases detected so far.

The largest single cluster, numbering 46, is in Ljubljana, and 26 have been infected in Šmarje pri Jelšah, a small community in eastern Slovenia where an outbreak was registered in a primary school.

LJUBLJANA (Reuters) - Slovenia has recorded its first death due to coronavirus, national channel TV Slovenia said on Saturday, citing unofficial sources.

It said the victim was an elderly man with a chronic disease. The Ministry of Health gave no immediate comment.

The government said earlier on Saturday there were 181 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country, up from 141 reported on Friday, three of whom were in intensive care.
