Paraguay registers a drop in active cases of coronavirus for the second day
By Newsroom Infobae
June 6, 2020

Asunci?n, Jun 6 (EFE) .- The Paraguayan Ministry of Health reported this Saturday the recovery of 16 people infected with coronavirus, with which the number of active cases falls for the second consecutive day and stands at 547 positives, a total of 1,090 positives registered since March 7.
The laboratories of the Ministry processed 1,115 samples this Saturday, of which three were positive, two of them by contact and a third of a person from abroad, and all are in isolation.
Currently, Paraguay has 10 infected hospitalized and two of them are in intensive care, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
With the 16 recoveries this Saturday, the data on active cases shows two days down, after the upward trend in infections started in late May.
The Health Minister, Julio Mazzoleni, stated this Friday, in his weekly press conference, his concern about the 70 community cases registered this week, corresponding to phase one, and which the Government attributed to the relaxation of part of the population in the compliance with social distancing and other health restrictions.
Mazzoleni warned of the risk that the virus will spread throughout the country and that cases will begin to shoot simultaneously.
Given this situation, the Executive will study over the next week whether to authorize the change to phase 3 of the "smart quarantine", scheduled for June 15, or extend phase 2 a few more weeks.
Mazzoleni was in favor of this option and urged his compatriots not to let their guard down, because the next few days "are going to be crucial."
Paraguay registered its first case of coronavirus on March 7, in a citizen returning from a business trip in Ecuador.
Just a few days after that positive was known, the Government decreed a partial quarantine that was later tightened with a total quarantine with which the Executive sought to save time to strengthen the health system and prevent the collapse of hospitals.

In the rest of the districts of the Paraguar? department, phase two of the health quarantine continues.

They detect in Paraguay 30 new cases of Covid-19, and add a thousand 422
Asuncion, June 23 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Public Health of Paraguay, Julio Mazzoleni, reported today that laboratory analyzes of the last 24 hours on 1,559 samples yielded 30 positive cases of Covid-19.

Of that thirty, which rises to a thousand 422 the total number of patients validated throughout the country, 26 are by contacts, three from abroad and one without a link in the Paraguar? department, the Secretary of State noted on his Twitter account on Tuesday.

'All are in isolation, but we still have nine hospitalized, and one in the Intensive Care Unit. With some 23 more recovered this day, there are 926 people free of the virus, 'said the head of the health portfolio.

According to sources from the ministry of the branch, the confirmed cases this Tuesday, outside the pools are Ayolas, Misiones department (7); Concepci?n, capital of the department of the same name (6), Fernando de la Mora, Central department (4) and Caaguaz?, in the homonymous department (2).

With one case are J. Eulogio Estigarribia (Caaguaz?), San Roque, Asunceno neighborhood; Paraguar? y Limpio, Central department.

Also San Jos? Obrero, Lambar?, and Villa Elisa (all in the Central department) and Asunci?n.

So far in June alone, 436 cases were confirmed: 157 from abroad, 33 without a link and 246 by contact, while 449 patients recovered in the same period, health sources said.

Mazzoleni also reported that he recommended to President Mario Abdo Ben?tez to extend the third phase of the smart quarantine for two more weeks, so this stage would last until July 19.

When asked if this information is already official, he replied that the president gave his approval.

He argued that hospitals are recovering their rhythm of care and fear that they will become saturated in the event of a possible increase in cases, considering the number of infected without connection and by contact that are appearing in recent weeks in various departments of the country.

He explained that the decision to extend phase three responded to the community distribution, the regional situation, the increase in the transmissibility index and the increase in the requirements of hospital demands for reasons unrelated to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They register in Paraguay 142 cases of Covid-19, in total thousand 711
Asuncion, Jun 26 (Prensa Latina) Paraguayan health authorities reported today the detection of 142 positive cases of Covid-19 after laboratory examinations of 1,590 samples in the last 24 hours.

With these numbers of validated cases, there are 1,711 confirmed patients in the country since March 11, the day the total quarantine began, sources from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) said.

The owner of that portfolio, Julio Mazzoleni, reported in his account on the social network Twitter that in that group of 142 positives, 125 were from contacts, 10 from abroad and seven without links. They are all in isolation.

"Eleven people are hospitalized, two of them in an Intensive Care Unit and 37 recovered, to add one thousand 13 patients cured of Covid-19," said the secretary of state.

Earlier, at a press conference, Mazzoleni highlighted that the worst possible scenario in terms of virus infection points to 10 percent of the population.

He said that the flattening of the contagion curve is due to early measures and compliance by citizens with health protocols.

"These two conditions allowed smoothing this slope (the contagion curve) and we believe that this scenario is unlikely to occur," said the secretary of state.

However, he clarified that this does not mean that the possibility of massive contagion and a large number of deaths from Covid-19 is ruled out.

This Friday it was learned that a military man guarding the Tacumb? National Penitentiary tested positive.

While in the Ciudad del Este penitentiary, in Alto Paran?, 108 cases were confirmed, of which 39 are inmates and 69 are guards of the prison compound.

Paraguay records a death from coronavirus and 64 new cases in 24 hours
The total number of coronavirus infections reached 2,191, while the number of recovered 1,080, making active cases 1,111 since the detection of the first positive, on March 7, a Paraguayan citizen who returned from a trip to Ecuador
Updated on 06/29/2020 at 6:27 PM

Paraguay announced on Monday a new death from coronavirus, which is in addition to the other two at the weekend, bringing the death toll to 16, while 24-hour cases of contagion total 64, the Ministry of Health announced. .

Of the 64 people who tested positive on the date, 57 are from contact with previous cases of infection and seven without a link, by community transmission, according to the daily report by the Minister of Health, Julio Mazzoleni.

This after a total of 1,061 tests processed in 24 hours, in which 27 hospitalized were counted, one more than on Sunday, and four in intensive care, also one more than the previous day.

The total number of infections reached 2,191, while the number of recovered 1,080, making active cases 1,111 since the detection of the first positive, on March 7, a Paraguayan citizen who returned from a trip to Ecuador.

Of the 57 cases per contact, a total of 36 are related to the Ciudad del Este prison, the second largest city in the country and epicenter of the latest cases due to the outbreak registered in that prison.

Ciudad del Este, on the border with Brazil, was at the beginning of the quarantine outbreak of contagion when the cases were concentrated in shelters of the returnees of the neighboring country and now it has returned to the sights of the authorities for its dissemination among prisoners and guards from the center of seclusion.

Paraguay is in phase 3 of the so-called smart quarantine with a schedule of gradual return to productive activities and which has coincided with the increase in the rate of cases.

For this reason, Mazzoleni announced last week that a two-week extension of that phase, until July 19, considering that hospitals are constantly on the rise with respiratory symptoms of this winter time.

And this very Monday, the head of state, Mario Abdo Ben?tez, urged the population to respect health protocols, social distancing measures, warning of the relaxation observed in recent days in the street movement.

"We knew that by advancing in the intelligent quarantine we were taking risks of further spread (...) and that is what is happening," warned Abdo Ben?tez while expressing that the crisis can be overcome "if we can maintain our health system not saturated".

And during the presentation of a plan for the economic reactivation of the country, he warned: "We do not want to harm the economy with drastic measures to reinforce the quarantine."
