In the event of high numbers of unfavorable cases, it is planned to return to the total quarantine to decrease the risk of spreading the virus.

Another worrying issue is the number of accident victims that remains despite the quarantine and that puts hospital capacity at risk, especially beds with respirators.

To their homes

The Inter-institutional Coordination Center to Support the Ministry of Public Health announced today that 286 compatriots who were distributed in 11 shelters were discharged.

All failed the COVID-19 test and return to their homes. Some 1,566 compatriots of the 3,365 in total who entered failed the COVID-19 test.

The last to enter were: 20 people from Brazil, 36 from Argentina and 47 Paraguayans arrived from Colombia.

Likewise, to continue with the orderly entry protocol, they request that the nationals who are abroad request help from the Paraguayan consulates and embassies to achieve gradual and orderly entry, without affecting the availability of the shelters.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, most of the registered cases are under control in compulsory shelters and with the accompaniment of the Ministry of Health. "All positive cases are under control," they say.

In the country there are 47 shelters enabled in the country, where compatriots who returned from abroad are distributed and where the 566 people who tested positive are also quarantined.

The national sevretaria intelligence report highlights that positive cases in shelters represent only 16% of the 3,495 people housed, but is equivalent to 69% of all cases in the country. "So far more than 1,700 people in shelters have tested negative for COVID-19," they argue.

Starting this week, five hotels were enabled, which with strict sanitary measures will be able to host repatriated Paraguayans who have the capacity to pay for their services.

"The head of Public Health, Julio Mazzoleni, announced the advance to phase 2 of the intelligent quarantine after a technical evaluation carried out to the first phase, the result of which was positive," the ministry said in a statement published on its website.

The people who will be able to participate in this reopening are those under 65 years of age.

"Today we are in an auspicious situation, which allows us to advance the phase, but as we have pointed out on several occasions, an oversight such as stopping taking physical distance measures, the use of masks, hand washing can return us not only to previous phase, but to the total quarantine, "said the minister.

12 new cases of Covid-19 are validated in Paraguay in more than 900 tests
Asunci?n, May 23 (Presa Latina) Paraguay closed the Saturday, with 937 samples analyzed, the highest number so far, and 12 new cases of Covid-19, an official source reported today.

The Minister of Public Health, Julio Mazzoleni, pointed out that 11 people out of that positive dozen are compatriots from abroad, one of them without ties. The recovered patients are now 34 and the total number of patients reached 850.

He also noted that the highest number of samples was recorded, with 937 processed since the detection of the first confirmed case, on March 7. The number of hospitalized is seven people and the fatal victims remain at 11.

Next Monday, May 25, the second phase of the intelligent quarantine begins, the first stage of which began on day 4.

The next stage of this new type of confinement -said health sources- implies a period of greater flexibility of activities until June 15, when a balance will be made again before entering the third phase.

The head of the health portfolio evaluated the level of contagion of the SARS-Cov2 coronavirus during the first phase of the intelligent quarantine and highlighted that the circulation of the virus in the country is very low.

Mazzoleni noted that there is currently an occupation of 15 percent of hospitals and 12.9 percent of intensive care beds in the country.

He said that these percentages are key to making decisions. He also said that there is a significant increase in emergency visits for respiratory symptoms, but in previous years the cases were between eight to 10 times more.

'By virtue of all this evaluation, of these indicators, we made the decision to go to the next stage. It is a favorable level, but an oversight, failing to take the measures, can return us not only to the previous phase, but to the total quarantine, 'he warned.

Covid-19 cases increase to 862
May 24, 2020 - 12:41
The Minister of Health, Julio Mazzoleni, reported that there are 12 new cases of Covid-19 in Paraguay, so the number increases to 862. More than 1,000 tests were performed in the last 24 hours, for the first time since the quarantine.

In his daily report, Minister Julio Mazzoleni indicated that 1,007 coronavirus samples were taken, of which 12 were positive. He noted that 11 come from abroad and one by contact. They are all in isolation.

In addition there were nine recovered, totaling 307, and seven interned so far.

At the moment, the Department of Caaguaz? remains the area where the most cases are registered.

Central is second on the list. Statistically, the average age of confirmed is 28 years and 70% correspond to men.

The report comes amid controversy over corruption cases in the purchase of supplies for medical personnel who are at the forefront of the battle against Covid-19. This Sunday an official revealed "blanqueos" to the purchases that were finally discarded by the Ministry of Health.

The biosecurity equipment was brought from China by the companies Insumos M?dicos SA and Eurotec SA, owned by the Ferreira brothers. However, irregularities were detected in the process until Mazzoleni announced on Friday that they would terminate the contracts.

The delay in the arrival of the first batch caused the Government to establish the total quarantine until the end of April, since the load was necessary for the health personnel. However, the Government itself rejected this statement.

Due to the scandal, the head of the Contracting Operational Unit (UOC), Pablo Lezcano, and the then director of Administration and Finance presented their resignations alleging personal reasons.

This Monday begins phase 2 of the smart quarantine with which the commercial premises, including shopping malls, will be reopened. However, this rating does not include common areas or food courts. In addition, private works are added at all stages, corporate offices for 50% of its staff, cultural and artistic rehearsals without an audience, as well as individual trainings for professional and amateur sports, in private entities and clubs.

On the other hand, for religious celebrations only baptisms and marriages are allowed with the presence of up to 10 people inside the place. Hairdressers may reopen under a previous schedule system and a maximum time of 30 minutes per client is recommended.

Paraguay advances in its lack of confidence with the reopening of shops
May 25, 2020

Paraguay allowed on Monday the reopening of its businesses and the movement of people and cars without restrictions during the day, withdrawing two of the measures it had implemented to curb the covid-19 epidemic.

The country, one of the least affected in South America in infections (865) and deceased (11), entered this second phase of its deconfusion plan on Monday.

The main Paraguayan cities registered an intense movement after the reactivation, the AFP observed in Asunci?n and reported on television in Ciudad del Este and Encarnaci?n.

83% of work activity was restored, according to authorities.

The return of the activities will allow to alleviate an economy punished, as in the whole world, by the quarantine measures decreed by the authorities. According to estimates by union centers, some 300,000 workers have been laid off since the crisis began in March.

The health authorities authorized the reopening of large shopping centers, which must guarantee respect for social distancing measures.

"A total of 1,400 businesses were reopened," said Jorge Mendelzon, head of the Chamber of Malls of Paraguay.

In Ciudad del Este, a neighbor of the Brazilian Foz de Iguaz?, commercial activity revived with a significant movement of people, although this did not even reach 10% of the usual movements, as a result of the closure of the border with Brazil, reported the spokesmen for the Chamber of Commerce.

The movement of people and cars was rehabilitated, without the need for special permits, until 9:00 p.m. local.

"No work permit will be required to move, except for people who work after 21," said Labor Minister Carla Bacigalupo.

The food courts (restaurant areas that share a common area to sit) remain closed until the third phase, in June.

The training of athletes, the individual physical exercise in parks and private clubs and the baptisms, weddings and funerals with the presence of up to 10 people were enabled.

However, the mandatory use of face masks in open spaces continues

"Flexibility measures must continue as few cases reproduce in Paraguay. This is how we are going to be in June and August," the well-known local epidemiologist, Antonio Arbo, told AFP.

Arbo, who was Minister of Health, pointed out that the measures established for the reintegration into the labor market "are correctly directed."

The epidemiologist cautioned that a delay in normalization "with a reverse gear" should not come as a surprise depending on the eventual increase in cases in the coming weeks.

According to the professional, the months of June, July and August are key to know if the virus hits Paraguay hard.

Conference closes with 47 positive cases of Covid-19 in Paraguay
Asunci?n, May 30 (Prensa Latina) Paraguay's Minister of Public Health, Julio Mazzoleni, confirmed today that of the 816 samples processed in the laboratory, 47 were positive, the highest number in the second phase of the intelligent quarantine.

"Of the valid cases, 25 are from Paraguayans who returned from abroad, 20 through contacts and two without links, all of them in isolation," said the secretary of state.

The head of the health portfolio noted that of the nine Covid-19 patients who are still hospitalized, two are in intensive care.

'We have 53 recovered, to add 466 people cured of the disease caused by the Sars-COV-2 coronavirus. The deaths are 11 and the total of confirmed cases is 964 ', said Mazolenni.

For his part, the deputy minister of Comprehensive Health Care, Juan Carlos Portillo, acknowledged that the cases without a link recorded in recent days in the Central and Alto Paran? departments give indications of a community circulation of the coronavirus.

Ciudad del Este, Hernandarias and Presidente Franco stood out as the most dangerous foci for its expansion.

He indicated that Asunci?n and Central also report cases without a link and the greatest danger is asymptomatic.

The director of Health Surveillance, Guillermo Sequera, also pointed out the Alto Paran? department as a territory where there is the largest community circulation of Covid-19.

Observers agree that it increases the risk for the circulation and spread of the disease throughout the national territory.

In this context, the health authorities asked to reinforce social distancing measures, frequent handwashing, the use of face masks, and other measures established to limit and prevent community outbreaks or conglomerates of coronavirus cases in the country.

Over a thousand positive cases to Covid-19 in Paraguay
Asuncion, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) Paraguay exceeded a thousand cases of Covid-19 by totaling today's session with 1,113 positives after confirming 18 new patients in 1,272 samples analyzed, health authorities reported.

The Minister of Public Health, Julio Mazzoleni, stressed that this number of samples is the highest since the tets began and the first case, on March 7.

In his daily report, the Secretary of State noted that of the total number of positive cases (18), 15 are from people who came from abroad and the remaining three from contacts with patients with COVID-19.

'The number of internees remains 10, with two of them in intensive care. There were 10 more recovered, bringing the figure to 498. Active cases of the disease thus climb to 504, also taking into account the 11 deaths, "he said.

Sources from the Public Health portfolio (MSP) recalled that initially the curve of positive cases remained as a kind of plateau, 'if we consider that in the first 54 days the highest number of new patients per day was 25 'they stressed.

After the arrival of Paraguayans from Brazil for humanitarian reasons, on May 1 the indicators rose exponentially, although most of the detected patients are in government shelters.

The highest amount recorded in a single day was 126 cases, on May 9, they said from the National Directorate of Health Surveillance (DNVS).

To date, 32 percent of patients have been detected outside the shelters and many of them are asymptomatic, a fact that worries specialists.

On March 7, the first case of Covid-19 in Paraguay was confirmed, and three days after the Government announced the start of the health quarantine. On March 20, the nation's first death from the disease was confirmed.
