Two more potential measles exposures: Southwestern public health

As the region’s measles outbreak continues to grow, the public health agency for Oxford and Elgin counties and St. Thomas has reported two new potential exposures in the region.

Like the bulk of the previously reported exposures, the most recent two also took place in health-care settings, Southwestern public health officials said.

The first took place at the emergency department of Tillsonburg District memorial Hospital at 167 Rolph St. on March 25 from 8:44 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The second was reported at the emergency department waiting room of Woodstock Hospital at 310 Juliana Dr. on March 26 from 2:33 p.m. to 4:43 p.m.

Anyone who was present at these locations during these timeframes who were born in 1970 or later, and are not up to date with their vaccinations, are urged to contact public health at 1-800-922-0096 ext. 1232. Even people who were only at these locations for a moment or two are encouraged to call since the highly contagious measles virus can linger in the air for as long as two hours.

Since the first cases were reported in October 2024, there have now been 262 cases confirmed in the Southwestern public health region as of March 27.

There were 30 new cases reported to Southwestern public health from March 21 to March 27, its most recent outbreak report stated.​..

Waterloo region now has 14 confirmed cases of measles, which is up from just three cases last week, public health officials said Tuesday.

This comes as Ontario has been experiencing a rise in cases of the vaccine-preventable virus in recent weeks.

In a release sent out Tuesday, Region of Waterloo Public Health said people could have possibly been exposed at this location on Saturday, March 29:

Grand River Hospital's emergency department, 835 King Street West, Kitchener from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (now known as WRHN @ Midtown).

A previous release said exposures may have happened on Friday, March 21 at these places:

Pharmasave Campus at 170 University Ave. W. in Waterloo from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Shoppers Drug Mart at 50 Weber St. N. in Waterloo from 12:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Anyone who may have been exposed at the locations should contact the public health unit immediately if they fall under these three categories:

They are immunocompromised.
They are pregnant.
They are a child or adult born or after 1970 who is unvaccinated or has only received one dose of measles vaccine...

Rate of new measles cases in Ontario stable, says province's top doctor

TORONTO — Ontario’s measles outbreak is likely to continue into the summer, the province’s chief medical officer of health said Friday, but a stable rate of new cases is a hopeful sign that it will not worsen.

Measles is so contagious that one infected person can spread it to 16 others, but the province is not seeing that growth rate at the moment, Dr. Kieran Moore said in an interview. This week there were just over 100 new cases and 120 new ones the week before that, he said.

“Normally, in an outbreak (it) would go in a very escalating, rapid fashion, but we’re seeing stable numbers week after week, which gives us hope,” he said.

“This virus typically spreads in late winter and through spring, and we’re finding that it’s not accelerating. So that’s probably thanks to the great work in communities to try to limit spread, as well as our messaging with local public health agencies to affected communities and health system preparedness.”

Public Health Ontario says there have been 572 cases since the outbreak began in October — 453 of them confirmed and 119 probable. Of the 42 people requiring hospitalization, two have required intensive care, and 36 have been children — most of them unvaccinated.​..

Toronto Public Health advising of potential measles exposure at downtown restaurant, on VIA Rail train

Public health officials in Toronto are warning that the public may have been exposed to a measles case at a downtown restaurant and on a train earlier this month.

TPH says the case in question is in a person who works in the city, and members of the public could have been exposed in several locations just over a week ago on Friday, March 21.

Possible exposure may have happened at the following sites:

Pizzeria Libretto at 155 University Avenue, near Adelaide Street West, between 11:50 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
VIA Rail Canada Train 82, Car 3, from London to Toronto, between 6:05 to 10:50 a.m.
VIA Rail Canada Train 83, Car 3, from Toronto to London, between 4:10 to 8:30 p.m.

Anyone who may have been exposed, even if vaccinated, should watch for measles symptoms up to 21 days after exposure – until April 4, TPH says.​..

Huron Perth Public Health announced on Thursday (April 3) several more measles exposures at local hospitals.

Exposures occurred at Listowel Memorial Hospital emergency department on Sunday, March 23 from 1:51 p.m. until 9:58 p.m. and on Monday, March 24, from 2:13 p.m. until 8:13 p.m.

Another exposure happened at Wingham and District Hospital’s emergency department on Sunday, March 30, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Anyone at these locations during these times needs to monitor for measles signs and symptoms for 21 days after exposure.​..

That’s compared to just over 100 new cases last week and 120 the week before.

Dr. Sarah Wilson, a public health physician at Public Health Ontario, said numbers "look to be stabilizing somewhat in the range of around 100 cases a week."

"But, I also want to be really clear – that's still 100 cases a week too many of measles," Wilson said Thursday.

Wilson said there were 52 hospitalizations – 10 more than last week – including three in intensive care.​..

More measles exposure sites identified in Simcoe Muskoka

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) announced on Thursday that additional exposure sites have been identified in relation to a confirmed measles case that was reported on Wednesday.

According to the SMDHU, the confirmed case was a resident who was unvaccinated and recently travelled internationally. Anyone who was at the following sites on Thursday, March 27 during the indicated times may have been exposed.

- CIBC at 23 Mapleview Drive West in Barrie from 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

- Walmart at 45 Mapleview Drive West in Barrie from 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

- Fika Cannabis at 33 Mapleview Drive West, Unit C007 in Barrie from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

- Rexall Pharmacy at 567 Essa Road in Barrie from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.​...

Two people with measles were onboard a Flair Airlines flight from Mexico to Waterloo region on March 29 and now health officials say anyone on that flight or in the Waterloo region airport that day may have been exposed to the virus.

The two cases were people on Flair Airlines Flight F82431 from Puerto Vallarta to the Region of Waterloo International Airport.

As well, anyone who was in the airport's main terminal between 8:20 p.m. on March 29 and 1 a.m. on March 30 may have been exposed.​..

The department says a case was confirmed in someone who was visiting the city.

Public health officials have confirmed the first measles cases in the Timiskaming district, urging residents to check their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms if exposed.

Northeastern Public Health reported two cases linked to the region, with both individuals now in isolation. The agency said the risk to the general public remains low but released a list of locations where exposures may have occurred on March 29:

Veteran’s Park, Cobden, Ont., 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Ontario Northland Bus (Cobden to North Bay terminal), departing noon, arriving 3:15 p.m.
Pronto, 3520 Petawawa Blvd., Petawawa, 1–3:15 p.m.

Public health officials said it was identified at the Tilbury Walk-In Clinic at 15 Mill Street East on Friday, April 4, 2025, between 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

TORONTO — Ontario is reporting 155 new measles cases over the last week, pushing the province’s case count to 816 since an outbreak began in the fall.

The number of new cases has increased again after a few weeks of appearing to stabilize in the 100-per-week range, which public health physicians had taken as a sign of potential optimism.

Public Health Ontario says there have now been 61 hospitalizations – that’s 11 more than last week – including 47 children. Unimmunized kids are the predominant group infected by the outbreak.​..

If you visited the North Bay Hospital between April first to third, you may have come into contact with a person carrying the measles virus.

"People who walked the hallways and lobby of the east main entrance or visited the retail pharmacy at the North Bay Regional Health Centre between 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, to midnight on Thursday, April 3, may have been exposed to measles," the Health Unit has confirmed.

The hospital is "working closely with the Health Unit on contact tracing activities to identify and follow-up with known contacts of the visitor, however, they are not able to identify everyone who was exposed," says a news release.​..

South East Health Unit warns of new measles exposure risks in Kingston, Belleville

The South East Health Unit is warning residents of potential measles exposure in Kingston and Belleville, linked to a new confirmed case of measles.

The health unit said in a news release Thursday that this is in addition to three other unrelated measles exposure locations it identified earlier in the week for a different positive case of measles, and that this case is unrelated to a previously reported outbreak in the Hastings region.


If you attended the following locations at these dates and times, you might have been exposed to measles:

— Nicholson Catholic College, 301 Church St., Belleville, from April 2/3/4 at 8 a.m. to April 2/3/4 at 5 p.m.

— Car 3 of Via Rail Train 66 from Belleville to Kingston, April 4, from 5:10 p.m. to 8 p.m.

— Tim Hortons at 661 Cataraqui Woods Dr., Kingston, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

— Kingston Family Health Team – Centennial Family Physicians office, including onsite LifeLabs patient service centre, 200-2437 Princess St., Kingston, April 7, from 3 p.m. to 5:35 p.m.

Anyone who was at any of those locations should check their vaccination records to ensure protection from measles. They should also monitor for symptoms for 21 days following the exposure date, even if vaccinated.​..

LPH confirms four new measles cases

The local health unit has reported four additional cases of measles in Lambton County.

Lambton Public Health (LPH) confirmed the cases on Wednesday, adding that it is working to identify anyone who could have been exposed to the highly contagious virus.

LPH has reported that community members may have been exposed to measles at the following locations:

• Peoples Church (3888 London Line, Wyoming) on Sunday, March 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., or on Wednesday, April 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

• Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute (4141 Dufferin Avenue, Petrolia) from Thursday, April 3 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• Bluewater Health Sarnia Emergency Department (89 Norman Street, Sarnia) on Tuesday, April 8 from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

• Bluewater Health Petrolia Emergency Department (450 Blanche Street, Petrolia) on Monday, April 7 from 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8
