GUADALAJARA, JALISCO .- Although during the 2009 dengue virus upended the entire health system in the state, exceeding three times the number of cases in 2008 (one thousand 441 cases), with 4 thousand 697 infections, the disease is not on the balance of common diseases of the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SJS).
Moreover, in the list of leading causes of illness which affected Jalisco, dengue is not listed, but it appears the dog bite, burns, conjunctivitis and even venom poisoning of animals as causes of disease in citizens, not the virus transmitted by mosquito "Aedes aegypti, which saturated both public and private hospitals, for much of the year.
However, for the year that just started the picture looks more complicated than in 2009, as Arthur said Muzquiz Pena, Director of Planning of the Ministry of Health Jalisco (SSJ), said to be a difficult year for dengue, and dependence is a projection of about 5 thousand 500 cases reported, so that preventive action should be more focused and intensive.
Although the same health secretary, Alfonso Petersen Farah, acknowledges that lived in Jalisco underreporting of some 60 thousand cases of dengue, the disease has not "reached" out in the records analyzed by the agency in terms of most common diseases last year.

In the same issue, the National Center of Epidemiological Surveillance and Disease Control (CENAVECE) takes two weeks without notifying new cases of dengue in the country, so no information is available from the second week of December.
Diabetes tops the list of causes of death
During 2009, the five diseases caused more deaths in the State of Jalisco were diabetes, with a record of four thousand 896 deaths, followed by ischemic heart disease, 764 with three thousand deaths, and cerebrovascular, of which 734 thousand were recorded throughout the year.
Other diseases which hit the mortality rates were acute lower respiratory infections, with 592 thousand deaths and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), with a total of 525 thousand deaths.
In total, over the year in Jalisco 34 thousand 626 people died from various causes, reported yesterday the state Health Ministry, according to preliminary accumulated from January to December 2009.
Diabetes, which represents the leading cause of death in the state, said department head Comprehensive Assessment, Jesus Jaramillo Rodriguez, has a different behavior in each region of the entity.
"In the State, the Valley region has the highest rate, with 96.62 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants, compared to the North Coast region, which has a rate of 37.73 deaths.
In a matter of disease notifiable diseases that more new cases recorded were acute upper respiratory infections, with one million 758 thousand 186 cases, intestinal infectious diseases, with 331 thousand 294; urinary tract infections, with 229 thousand 864 ; ulcers, gastritis and duodenitis, with 92 thousand 418 cases, and, finally, the poisoning by scorpion sting, with 57 thousand 028 records, Jaramillo said Rodriguez.
Despite the emergence of human influenza in the health sector records this was not the main cause of the increase of acute respiratory diseases, which have a million 600 thousand cases in 2008, jumped to more than one million 700 thousand in 2009.
What happened, the official said, is that because of "psychosis" of the epidemic, people took more preventive culture and went to the doctor before a picture flu, so more new cases were reported.
However, as influenza does not appear in the list of most common diseases in 2009.
In summary, mortality in Jalisco still has the same trend of recent years and is currently at the lowest point, however, begin to have a sustained increase due to the epidemiological and demographic transition.
