The director general of Public Health of the SSJ, Elizabeth Ulloa Robles explained that both deaths were recorded in the Antiguo Hospital Civil de Guadalajara "Fray Antonio Alcalde". The first case corresponds told a young man just 21 years old, originally from the town of Colotlan, whose death occurred on Friday 23 October.

She said that an unknown date of onset of his illness, but that admission to the hospital occurred on Oct. 18 with a diagnosis of necrotizing pneumonia. "This tells us that it was the patient with lung damage," said Ulloa Robles. He also presented findings compatible with infection by influenza A-H1N1 which was managed with antiviral doses appropriate to their age and weight, he said.

The other victim was a male aged 35, resident of Zapopan and who started with symptoms of respiratory disease on 12 October and yet he was admitted to the hospital until the 20th of this month, with a picture of severe infection by A-H1N1 combined with acute renal failure. Begins to be noticeable increase in influenza, says Petersen

◦ The secretary stressed it was what was expected
The state Health Ministry reported 78 new cases of human influenza, as are reached two thousand 517 infections in total

GUADALAJARA, JALISCO .- While the state health secretary, Alfonso Petersen Farah, has confirmed the perceived increase in the spread of human influenza, it was confirmed that two further deaths in Jalisco. The accumulated amounts to 36 deaths.

The first case involves a 21-year-old resident of the town of Ocotlan, who died last Oct. 23 at the Old Civil Hospital "Fray Antonio Alcalde".

According to the Director of Public Health at the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SJS), Elizabeth Ulloa Robles, the unit still has no complete record of the patient, so it is not known when it began with the symptoms of the disease .

The boy was admitted to hospital on October 18 with necrotizing pneumonia, meaning that already had signs of lung damage, and symptoms related to human influenza, so they proceeded to administer antiviral medicine. He died from respiratory failure, severe pneumonia with community.
Reported: "Within the relevant data that could lead to risks of the patient, not reported, except age, which is the group of patients who have more attention."

The second victim was an adult of 35 years, resident of the municipality of Zapopan, who started with the symptoms related to human influenza on October 12, but joined the Civil "Fray Antonio Alcalde" until the 20th of the month.

The diagnosis on admission to hospital was a severe respiratory failure, SARS suspected of A H1N1, with data from low platelet count, acute renal failure and dehydration.

His death occurred on 25 October, caused by respiratory failure, renal disease exacerbations, with atypical pneumonia and infection with H1N1 virus.

According to Ulloa Robles, this patient had another risk data for the disease, like smoking. "I had 20 years of smoking and chronic exposure to such substances as cocaine for six years."

Now we see the increase in cases

Yesterday he confirmed 78 new cases of human influenza in Entity, bringing the total number of infections amounted to 2 billion 517. Seasonal influenza was reported only person affected most, and the number of patients so far is one thousand 056.

With this new report, Health Secretary Jalisco, Alfonso Petersen Farah, reiterated that "as you begin to notice an increase in positive cases of the disease, but is consistent with the scenarios planned for the next winter season.

The important thing now is that doctors start treatment with those who have symptoms related to the H1N1 virus, even if there is no laboratory confirmation.

"The diagnostic confirmation has already epidemiological purposes, not for therapeutic purposes, the laboratory studies will be using to track precisely the epidemic."

With the increase in cases, "said the secretary runs the risk of increasing the number of patients with complications, as well as the deaths, but if you start with this timely treatment can be avoided.

Vaccines against seasonal influenza

Moreover, during the first week of November, Jalisco receive the second shipment of seasonal influenza vaccines, intended to be used for application to vulnerable groups such as doctors and educators.

The first package of 400 thousand doses, and was applied in the population of the elderly and children under five years, both considered "risk groups" to get sick.

The Ministry of Health Jalisco (SSJ) provides that vaccines are applied in an approximate 20 to 40 thousand people, including health workers and education.

The vaccine against seasonal influenza at its option, not only brings to whom the protection applies, but the surrounding environment, so it is important to go to be vaccinated, said the secretary Alfonso Petersen Farah.

"The vaccine will protect those focused on risk groups that are considered in persons who suffer the disease can infect others."

Because the health staff maintains direct contact with patients, you become seriously ill could transmit the disease to another person. But if you break the transmission channel with the application of biological, helps the "community health".

It is a fact that vaccines are not enough to cover the entire population, making it likely that people go to buy the vaccine in the private means.

Therefore, Petersen Farah made a call to the private laboratories that are authorized to sell the biological availability to be left for people at risk such as patients with diabetes, hypertension, asthma, smoking, elderly and children under five years, among others.

The arrival of human influenza vaccine is covered for the month of January, and the same way as with seasonal influenza, would apply only in high-risk groups.

PREVENTION

Operating against dengue in cemeteries

At the next Day of the Dead on November 2, the Health Ministry Jalisco (SSJ) performs an operation dengue prevention 25 to 30 October.

Because it is a celebration in which millions of people come together in the 289 cemeteries throughout the State, and this can cause more infections of the virus, the unit performed as trash removal and abatizaci?n measures (application of chemicals) in all facilities.

Some actions, said the director of Public Health of the SSJ, Elizabeth Ulloa Robles, including placement of deposits from abate water as sinks, vases and cisterns, so it asked the public to not changing the water in the flowers, for it is treated to prevent the spread of mosquito transmits dengue.

The dependence was spraying inside motomochila pantheons with substance Deltamethrin, which is impregnated surfaces, just as it is sprayed with heavy equipment on streets, entrances and around the cemeteries, but with substance phenothrin.

The recommendations to the public also aim to prevent spread of flu, so it is important that people who are studying or febrile respiratory illness, not to attend the event, out of respect for other visitors.
To prevent accidents graves, dependence urged the public to bear no children, and if they do, are on the lookout for them, just as with older people.

Influenza and Dengue decisive for the construction of the Old Civil Hospital

The Old Civil Hospital started functioning with a capacity of one thousand patients. ARCHIVE
◦ The work began in 1787
An epidemic in the eighteenth century, similar to the present, could have been the main reason for building the hospital

GUADALAJARA, JALISCO .- Guadalajara's history has been accompanied with over the years, of various shades, some of them are etched in the memory of a non grata tapat?os of the suffering they caused in his time, such as epidemics that have afflicted the city.

Towards the end of the eighteenth century our city suffered an outbreak of two diseases, it is believed, could be dengue and influenza, which would replicate the situation that exists today.

These conditions may have been the triggering factor that led to the construction of the Old Civil Hospital.

A medical article of those years, published in La Gaceta de Mexico and used by the historian Luis Perez Verdia, describes a number of diseases, apparently common in Guadalajara, presenting the following symptoms: "The evil had symptoms of constipation or cold with low fever in the morning and at night a high fever, severe headache, sweating and copious bleeding from the nose, the seventh day the skin is covered with red spots or petechia or violet patients complain of deafness and eyes turn red, you inflate the stomach unconsciousness accompanied by delirium, the lungs shrink and the patient died between the eleventh and the twenty-first day. In other cases the symptoms were complicated by recurrent pains in various parts of the body, mainly in the chest. "

Victoria Oliver, a researcher at the University Center for Social Sciences and Humanities (CUCSH) of the Universidad de Guadalajara (University of Guadalajara), says: "I have consulted with epidemiologists and this description matches the symptoms of dengue and hemorrhagic type, I can be little doubt it was this disease. "

Before 1785, the epidemic had appeared in Guadalajara. However, due to heavy snowfall of the year, resulting in the loss of crops, increased acute hunger or malnutrition, overcrowding and unsanitary living conditions at the time. That's when epidemic diseases found to reproduce the conditions with ease.

File Under General Municipal de Guadalajara, between March and May 1786 and between August and October of that year, the number of deaths "catarrhal fever" shot up considerably. Coincidentally, it was between March and May 2009 when it fired the human influenza epidemic in Guadalajara, and between August and October when the same thing happened with the dengue epidemic, a situation that reinforces the hypothesis that between 1786 and 1787 the city would experienced an epidemic of these two diseases together.

"Just the start of construction of the Old Civil Hospital is preceded by three years of epidemics particularly bloody for Guadalajara. In 1786 an epidemic was incubated again called in contemporary documents as 'catarrhal fever', ie the year prior to commencement of construction of the existing Civil Hospital Fray Antonio Alcalde. It was a year of influenza, if we accept this description, "said Oliver Sanchez.

The following year, in 1787, began building the new building of the Royal Hospital of San Miguel de Belen, now Old Civil Hospital, according to the researcher, the magnificence that was built seems to be related to the disaster lived during those years , and the number of patients at one time were hospitalized.

On May 3, 1794 work began to receive the first patients.

"Over 36 years, on average every six years an epidemic, when in reality they could have presented every three years," said the researcher.

For Oliver Sanchez, as well as "catarrhal fever" and "petechial fever" of 1786 exposed the lack of hospital space for a city like Guadalajara, which grew in population, the current epidemic of H1N1 influenza A and dengue has been evidence of incompetence of the current authorities, particularly the former health secretary, Alfonso Guti?rrez Carranza.

"We're not saying anything new, it was a very irresponsible of the Secretary of Health who was fired for that are giving all these cases of dengue in the city (...), but also those statements of our governor, that Jalisco was free influenza, even when it had reached other countries. "

Moreover, Oliver Sanchez, who is also historian of the Old Civil Hospital, expressed his solidarity with the workers of the hospital: "You can understand Guadalajara without these hospitals and are being unfairly treated by the State Government. And would lack know a little bit of history to realize that of course have to support the requests they are doing. "

Yesterday it reported 204 new infections of the virus and 80 hospitalized.

Tue, 10/11/2009 - 05:45

This situation forced the authorities to lease hospital ventilation equipment, support equipment required for patients with respiratory distress.

"We have seen the need to rent fans because more patients are receiving ventilatory care, that is, if we are seeing increasingly more severe patients, and gives me the impression that it is still a large increase in case of influenza and that looms as a further increase by year's end, "Blatter said.

In April, the date, the HCG "Fray Antonio Alcalde" (the largest public hospital in the west of the country) have been assessed to 5.652 persons suspected of infection with influenza virus A-H1N1, which have required 1.509 be detained.

Of the total patients, 237 had laboratory-confirmed disease, but doctors stressed that in recent months, the test to confirm the presence of the new virus is done at random and available to the Health Department only applies to 10 percent of suspected cases, due to the inability of resources to implement the PCR test all suspects.

Jalisco experienced yesterday one of the worst days of the epidemic to record eighty patients admitted to different hospitals in Jalisco. Only in the HCG 32 people were hospitalized with high suspicion of infection of the new virus, more than 100 percent occupancy of beds designed for care of patients with influenza "which are approximately 28 beds," said Perez Gomez.

Compared with patients in September, demand in the first week of November increased by 30 percent, he said.

Separately, the chief of epidemiology at the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SJS), Lucia Salazar Montes, announced 204 new cases of influenza A-H1N1, which accrue sick 3.038. Also reported twelve cases of seasonal influenza. This adds another epidemic 1.097 April infected to date.

The report of new cases almost tripled on Monday reported on 6 November (60) and is the highest issued since the epidemic began in Jalisco.

Meanwhile, they remain 43 deaths caused by the new virus and eight by the seasonal influenza in the state.

GUADALAJARA, JALISCO .- On Sunday, the Old Civil Hospital "Fray Antonio Alcalde" lived a full day in the care of patients infected with influenza. One day was more complicated since you started your health contingency A H1N1 virus.

The area allocated for influenza patients hospitalized was 100%, resulting in a total saturation of the 28 beds for the same purpose, said hospital director Hector Raul Perez Gomez.

Regarding the month of September, the hospital has a 30% increase in demand for services for suspected influenza.

The most "probable," said the doctor, is that the saturation of beds is a constant in the coming weeks in the winter. However, what is more worrisome is that more people arrive with more serious health cadres at the hospital. And yesterday it received 10 patients with complications of influenza that required hospitalization.

At this, the hospital resorted to more income to provide life support equipment for the care of critically ill patients.

From last April to date have evaluated five thousand 652 people suspected of virus, of which 509 thousand have required internships. Of those, 237 have tested positive to the disease. It should be noted that in recent months, the test to confirm the virus in blood was done randomly, so that the positive may exceed this figure.

Until Monday, the hospital 32 persons were hospitalized, two of them serious and five delicate.

At a press conference, Director General of Public Health, Elizabeth Ulloa Robles, and the chief of epidemiology at the SSJ, Lucia Salazar Montes, reported last October that claimed five victims epidemic week (epidemiological week 40 to the 43rd ), since there were 20 deaths.

The desirable average was 8.6 deaths per month, with a limit of fifteen monthly maximum during the winter, which for the SJS runs from 1 October 2009 to March 31, 2010. The "medium" scenario envisages a monthly average of 16 deaths, up to 27, and the scenario "high" of 28 deaths or more per month.

Only yesterday it was reported six more deaths from influenza A-H1N1 and seasonal influenza five (most have happened in October), which joined with 62 deaths since last April: 49 new virus, also called human influenza , and 13 type "A" or seasonal influenza. One in three deaths reported to date occurred in the winter period (see table).

For these reasons, Jalisco is at yellow alert, and enacted in the Federal District and other entities. "We are already in a risk scenario, it is a call to all people, a call, but not an alarm, but a call to be alert to early symptoms because we face an increase in the number deaths, "she said. He cited that most of the eleven deaths reported yesterday, were patients who received delayed treatment.

Of the six deaths recently reported by A-H1N1, five occurred in hospitals and Social Security in the Western General Hospital, three were female (two girls) and three male (one child), while five seasonal influenza deaths were reported once in the IMSS, three in civilian hospitals and one in a private hospital. Four men (two were minors) and a woman. Among the risk factors reported use of alcohol, snuff and cocaine. In children, the presence of underlying diseases such as cerebral palsy, heart disease and Down syndrome.

Ulloa Robles added that by the number of infections, Jalisco is "within a safety zone." Yesterday, the SSJ reported 71 new cases of H1N1 virus-totaling 3.242 sick and four new cases of seasonal influenza to accumulate 1.111. To date, the disease is present in 92 municipalities, the most affected: Guadalajara, Zapopan, Lagos de Moreno, Tlaquepaque and Tonala.

Urgent purchase of fans

Given the increase in the number of patients and deaths from influenza A-H1N1, the Health Ministry Jalisco (SSJ) made an urgent purchase ventilation equipment, equipment required for patients with respiratory distress due to complications like pneumonia.

A total of 80 helicopters will be received: the state government made the purchase of 60 fans and Jalisco also receive another 20 teams of the federation, said the director of public health, Elizabeth Ulloa Robles.

The teams will be distributed at regional hospitals and hospitals in the state first contact as well as in the Western General Hospital and Maternity Esperanza Lopez Mateos and Women's Hospital. The two Civil Hospital of Guadalajara, for belonging to a public agency (OPD) are not covered by the provision of new equipment, although the official left open the possibility of supporting the hospitals. The HCG hereby informed that has seen the need to rent equipment for demand ventilation of patients with suspected severe influenza that saturate the old hospital beds.

The isolation unit also provides a number of hospital beds, whose number was not specified, in order to meet the demand of patients who may require inpatient.
