The senior official passed away on Monday morning at Masih Daneshvari Hospital in Tehran, where a large number of Tehrani citizens suffering from the disease are hospitalized.


Before Mirmohammadi, Iran’s former ambassador to Vatican, Hadi Khosroshahi, had died of COVID-19.

DUBAI: Sixty-six people have died from the coronavirus in Iran and more than 1,500 have been infected, a senior official said on Monday, as a World Health Organization (WHO) team headed to Tehran.

“The definite latest numbers we have are 523 new infections and 12 new deaths so the total number of those infected is 1,501 until now and the number of deaths is 66,” Deputy Health Minister Alireza Raisi announced on state television.

Government spokesman Ali Rabiei said separately that a closure of Iran’s schools which was announced on Saturday because of the outbreak would continue through the end of this week, the official IRNA news agency reported.

2 March 2020 – A team of WHO experts has landed in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, to support the ongoing response to the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)outbreak in the country.

The team will work with health authorities and other stakeholders to review ongoing readiness and response efforts, visit designated health facilities, laboratories and points of entry, and provide technical guidance.

Overall, the objectives of the mission are to: identify transmission dynamics and at-risk populations; provide guidance on strengthening and scaling up the response to the ongoing outbreak, including agreement on priority control measures; and provide guidance on strengthened readiness for areas not yet affected by the outbreak.

To date, 1501 COVID-19 cases, including 66 deaths, have been reported in the country, as of 2 March at 15:00 Cairo local time. According to the health ministry spokesperson, in total, 291 people have already been discharged from hospitals after regaining their health.

Cases with a travel history to the Islamic Republic of Iran have also been reported from Afghanistan, Canada, Lebanon, Pakistan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

The plane carrying the technical team members also contained a shipment of medical supplies and protective equipment to support over 15,000 health care workers, as well as enough laboratory kits enough to test and diagnose nearly 100,000 people.

WHO expresses its sincere gratitude to the Government of the United Arab Emirates for providing the chartered plane that enabled WHO to successfully allow its team and medical supplies to travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

At least 23 Iranian MPs and the head of Iran's emergency medical service have reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus, in the latest spike in cases in the Islamic Republic.

According to BBC Persian, the 23 lawmakers, out of the 290-member chamber, may have been infected due to their contact with their constituents across the country, which has reported the highest number of cases outside China, where the virus originated in December.

The head of Iran's emergency medical services, Pir-Hossein Kolivand, has also been infected with virus, the ILNA news agency reported...

TEHRAN: Iran's coronavirus deaths surged to 92 on Wednesday, as another 15 people died, while 586 additional new cases were reported, bumping up the infection toll to 2,922.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health said the number of those recovered from the disease reached more than 913 in the country.

According to Webda, Dr. Kianoush Jahanpour, noon today on the latest statistics on CVD, stated: From yesterday afternoon to today, 1234 new cases of CVD have been identified in the country and the total number of these patients has reached 4747 in the country.

He added: "Unfortunately, in the past six hours, 17 Kovi patients have died and the death toll has risen to 124."

While he did not elaborate on the threat to use force, the spokesman acknowledged that the virus was present in all of Iran’s 31 provinces.

The threat may be aimed at stopping people from using closed schools and universities as an excuse to go to the Caspian Sea and other holiday spots in the run-up to the Persian new year, which falls on 21 March.

Iran’s official government news website IRNA says Fatemeh Rahbar passed away on Saturday, March 7 at the intensive-care unit of a Tehran hospital. She was the second newly elected member of parliament who has succumbed to coronavirus. Lat week, Mohammad Ali Ramazani also died of the epidemic.
