Hi Shannon,

in this thread we have the officially confirmed cases in Indonesia:

http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?p=106442#post106442

At the moment we have a 3 year old - SA - in Tangerang, neighbour (next door probably looking at the adress, thanks to CG) of the deceased Dewi.

This child was tested positive and after some hesitation from the father hospitalized. However the father took him/her home. The child is on Tamiflu and checked everyday at home. Together with other neighbours who are on Tamiflu. No other neighbour tested positive so far.

We have today news from a new suspected case in Batam, a location on a group of islands between Sumatra (Riau) and Singapore.

Indonesia is in the wet season now, more viral activity is expected.

Edit: we have Idrus in Pekanbaru Hospital in Riau, had bird flu like symptoms, but supposed to have asthma, see post 77 and earlier.

Re: Indonesian Human Cases Oct 20+

To add to Dutchy comment:

Dewi Apriliani (DA) (5F) was a confirmed H5N1 case from Desa Suka Asih. Onset for Dewi was October 14th, hospitalized on October 20th and died on October 22nd, 2007.

The latest confirmed child, SA (also referred to as Slh), is a 3 year old girl(?) from the same general location as Dewi Apriliani. Onset for this child was apparently October 22nd. Possibly hospitalized on October 27th, when samples were taken.

The father has since removed the child from the hospital. What is noteworthy is that the child is still alive and not in need of intensive medical care. This is a case worth watching. Every other human H5N1 case from Indonesia since June has died.

Another suspected bird flu sufferer hospitalized in Batam

Batam (ANTARA News) - A patient of the Sagulung regional general hospital in Batam has been referred to the Batam Authority hospital for intensive treatment as she was suspected of having been infected with the bird flu virus.

"We are afraid Widya is suffering from bird flu and therefore we have referred her to the Batam Authority hospital for intensive treatment," the director of the Sagulung hospital, Dr Nenden Siti Komariah, said here on Tuesday.

Dr Nenden worried Widya Rahmadai (9) was infected with the birdflu virus because a chicken had suddenly died near her home.

She said Widya from Kampung Ponjen, Tanjungriau, was first brought to a polyclinic for fever but a medical examination showed the fever was not a common one.

She said she had already reported the case to the local health service for the government to take measures. (*)

New Suspect patient from Bali

credits bgw in MT

http://www.balipost.com/balipostcetak/2007/10/31/b18hl.htm

Putri means daughter or princess, so I assume this patient is a woman. She is from Bali.

In Gianyar, was found by the Patient "Suspect" Bird Flu

Gianyar (Balinese Post) -

A case of suspect bird flu currently happens in the Gianyar Regency. A resident of the Tegallinggah Series, Blahbatuh, of Gianyar, Ni Nyoman Putri (38), got the intensive maintenance in the ICU RSU Sanjiwani room, Gianyar by the medical team, and the condition for the patient headed in suspect bird flu or avian influenza (AI).

The patient who was placed in this special room his condition appeared very weak. Apparently several paramedics supervised each development from the patient who entered the special room in ICU RSU Sanjiwani, on last Tuesday (30/10) around struck 10,00 wita.

A source in RSU Sanjiwani mentioned before entering the special AI room, the patient Nyoman Putri this could undergo treated inap in the A Ward, RSU Sanjiwani, Gianyar. The patient Nyoman Putri entered the hospital since last Friday (26/10).

'\ Around struck 23,30 wita, the patient on behalf of Nyoman the daughter was treated in the A Ward with the disturbance diagnosis of the channel of respiration, '\ revealed the official guarded that his name reluctantly will be in the newspaper.

After getting the maintenance for four days, the condition for the patient will never improve, but increasingly weak. So as to be brought to ICU and to be carried out by the special maintenance. Whereas results of observation in the ICU room, the ICU atmosphere that was quite quiet this, the patient was seen in the special room with the condition was very weak.

(Note: The original TT translation of the next two sentences was: "From base south side glasses, the patient's appearance got help of breathing as well as used other medical equipment. Now from the plank of the clear appearance diagnosis was written by the name of the patient with the Bronco Premoneu illness (BP), as well as FB Milier and suspect bird flu" I went back to the dictionary and found the more likely meaning of the words. The underlined sentences that follow have been translated word by word to make sense. Remember FB is a new acronym for Flu Burung.)

From the base south side glass window, the patient's appeared to get help of breathing as well as used other medical equipment. Now from the signboard the diagnosis was clearly written by the name of the patient with the Bronco Premoneu illness (BP), as well as FB Milier and suspect bird flu.

While being treated in RSU Sanjiwani, the patient got the handling from Dr. Putu Wardana, this Sp.P. Hal was also justified by one of the medical officials in ICU. Beforehand, the case of birdflu could be also found in the Gubat area, Tegallinggah, Blahbatuh. However, the virus avian influenza (AI) this only attacked the poultry (the duck) the resident who just was brought in from Java.

On the case was carried out by the mass extermination by the official from the Peternakan Service and the monitoring of the supervision from the health side.

Did a little research on Batam.

To/From Sumatra mainland, other Riau Islands: Batam's main domestic port is Sekupang, where you can ferries to/from the Sumatra mainland and other Riau Islands west of Batam.

Sekupang is about 2 miles away from Tanjungriau.

Re: Indonesian Human Cases Oct 20+

Here you go! I got it off the "print" page by viewing "page source":

Thanks Theresa! Guess I am a dummy with IT..:oem , in my dutch version I tried all kinds of things, don?t know were to find " page source" ....
Well, it was a bit tricky to get to -- I had to struggle for a while, too. :)

If you can't copy text from a webpage, try "view page source" [Firefox] or "view source" [IE] -- ?bron weergeven? in Dutch (I think!). If you're using a PC, you can right click anywhere on the page and one of the options should be "view page source"/"view source". When you click on that, you'll get all the text from that page (including the html coding) in a pop-up window or notepad file. Then you can just copy from there. You can also get to "view page source" under "View" up on the top menu of the browser ("bron" in Dutch?).

I had to go to the "Print" version of that particular article, though, 'cause that Indonesian website had frames -- if you view source then, you only see the html coding for creating the frames and not the text from the page.

Hope some of that made sense! :D

AFP picked up the story on S, the boy from Tangerang who was carried home:

Indonesia's bird flu boy defies hospital orders, returns home

JAKARTA - THE parents of a three-year-old Indonesian boy infected with bird flu have defied hospital orders that he stay in isolation and taken him home, a hospital official said on Wednesday.

The boy from Tangerang, a satellite city west of the capital Jakarta, stayed in hospital for just half a day last Saturday, said Sardikin Giriputro, deputy director of Sulianti Saroso hospital.

'We had no choice but to let the boy leave the hospital as his parents insisted on taking their child home,' he said.

He added that a patient should remain in isolation until a test showed the infection was over.

Doctors wanted him to remain in isolation to ensure there would be no possibility of human-to-human infection, he said.

The boy was under home observation by medics from a health centre in Tangerang and Wednesday's report said that his condition was improving, Mr Giriputro added.

Indonesia has reported 111 cases of bird flu, 89 of which have been fatal - the highest number of any nation.

The H5N1 strain of bird flu is endemic in birds across nearly all of Indonesia. Scientists worry that the virus could mutate into a form more easily transmissible between humans, sparking a global pandemic. -- AFP

Edit: the boy was allowed to go home:

Karena alasan desakan keluarga, pihak RSPI mengizinkan pasien ini keluar. Semestinya setelah hasil pemeriksaan menunjukkan negatif barulah pasien diizinkan pulang.

Sorry Toggletext out. Diizinkan = allow; Pulang = return, go home .

Edit:

As I understand this last sentence from the DetikNews report: it says before he went home for the 2nd time, they did a test on the boy, with result negative.

Karena alasan desakan keluarga, pihak RSPI mengizinkan pasien ini keluar. Semestinya setelah hasil pemeriksaan menunjukkan negatif barulah pasien diizinkan pulang.

After having Tamiflu for some time, a negative test could be expected. As I understand it, if you are negative you are not or hardly shedding the virus?
