Comment: This is the report from August 31 rereleased as the September 30th report. Honestly, it's not like they are even trying anymore.

By my very incomplete count, 52 deaths reported from Bengal, 1 from Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh is at least 156 and probably much higher, 5 from Manipur,
16 total fatal cases have been reported in Kerala to September 9 in addition to 17 fatal cases due to Nipah, 16 fatal cases have been reported from Bihar, 6 from Madhya Pradesh, 4 from Odisha, 2 from Maharashtra, 2 from Gujarat, 1 from Punjab, 5 from Uttarakhand and 1 fatal case from Tripura.

Thus the national toll is at a very minimum 447. - Ro

For what it's worth MOHFW statistics put the number of confirmed cases of JE at 1,005 from 9,760 tests conducted. (lines 169 & 170)

JE deaths are given as 132 (line 294), and increase of 30% over the NVBDCP report from August 31, but AES deaths are given as 209 (line 293) which is 40 deaths lower than the NVBDCP figures from August. Sigh!

AES attack on children
-In Kanpur, cases of brain fever increased rapidly in children, recruitment of children more than three times in capacity at NICU

- In addition to acute encephalitis, the most outbreak of diarrhea on children, not up to the beds to recruit

Yanharkakktra: On one side, where the weather is changing, on the other side diseases have also increased rapidly. Especially cases of acute encephalitis have increased in children. Children with brain fever are not getting proper treatment on time because their condition is also getting worse. Apart from Kanpur in the Pediatric Hospital of Medical College, children are being recruited continuously from 12 districts around. The condition is that the hospital has more than three times more children than the capacity at NICU.

Children reaching critical condition

According to Yashwant Rai, Head of Department of Pediatrics, the hospital has 120 beds and more than 160 children are being treated. Most of them are from AES. After this, children suffering from diarrhea are also being recruited too. The bed occupancy in hospital is more than 100 percent. These children are also coming from nearby districts besides Kanpur. The special thing is that in the beginning, these children were treated with a neutral order, during which the condition of the child got worsened. After which he was admitted here.

So far, the government has claimed that its vaccination drive has seen a "100% coverage, toilets have been built, sanitation has improved and deaths have decreased". But with the government reticent to share data regarding the actual number of cases and deaths, [Rajesh Mani, who is the petitioner on the issue in Allahabad high court for non-profit Manav Seva Sansthan, said], "It is impossible to actually verify these claims. Perhaps, there has been a marginal improvement. But there is still a long way to go."

Jaipur - dengue swine flu scrub typhus jihaca after the acute encephalitis syndrome The Department of Medical Education is already struggling with seasonal diseases such as Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya, Scrub Typhus, Swine Flu and Zika. Assam, UP, After Bihar, there is a stir in the medical department after getting the case of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) disease infections and swelling in the brain in Rajasthan. However, the officer is engaged in the fire. So far this year, 15 hospitals have received AES in SMS Hospital. One of these has happened till the death. Not only this, the officers of the medical department do not send information to the Central Government on AES matters. Last year, the medical department had a case of Japanese encephalitis positive in a woman from Bundi. But the department hid it However, after his death, the Japanese Encephalitis was positive in the report of the National Institute of Virology Pune.

Spreading viruses are

caused by rabies, arbo, herpes simplex polio virus, migraines, Japanese and smallpox virus etc. among those spreading encephalitis. Inflammation in the brain may also be due to infections. The main reasons are St. Louis, Western Neal, Sheetla Minor and Major Viral. The primary occurs when the virus virus or other infectious carrier directly affects the brain. In the secondary, disease-resistant capacity decreases.

A person of any age may have

acute encephalitis, any person of the same age and the Japanese only prey on children. Treatment of Japanese is not possible, while treatment and treatment of acute encephalitis is possible.

In such a way

This disease spreads much more heat or moisture. Its germs enter the body through respiration and mouth. In places where there is excessive dirt, it spreads rapidly. Simultaneously, due to lack of cleanliness in cooking food, drinking dirty water and not cleaning hands before eating, the disease spreads due to infection.

In 22 state

Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claims 94 lives in Assam in 10 months
13 hours ago

GUWAHATI: Assam has topped the list at the national level, but for a wrong reason ? both in the number of Japanese encephalitis (JE) cases and the toll it has taken. Till October 26 this year, the vector-borne disease has claimed as many as 94 lives in the State.

What has led to such a precarious situation in the State? Vaccination is the only cure for JE. However, the ground reality in the State remains that there has been no adult vaccination for JE in as many as eight of its districts. The districts are Baksa, Chirang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong. The situation is no better either in nine other districts which registered below 70 per cent JE vaccination. The vaccination drive has so far covered 63 per cent in Tinsukia, 68 per cent in Sivasagar, 66 per cent in Kamrup, 46 per cent in Nagaon, 65 per cent in Barpeta, 53 per cent Udalguri, 48 per cent in Nalbari, 50 per cent in Bongaigaon and 48 per cent in Morigaon districts.

Adult vaccination for JE has been being carried out in the State since 2012-13. However, according to sources in the National Vector-borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Assam, the State can never attained 100 per cent JE vaccination in any of its districts.

The sources have further said that for the past two years, no central expert/observer has visited the State to take stock of the situation of vector-borne diseases here so far. According to the sources, JE has been detected among a few people who have been given vaccination.

Till October 26 this year as many as 488 cases have been detected in the State, and 94 of the patients have lost their lives. The highest toll by JE in the State is in Dibrugarh and Sonitpur districts ? registering 15 deaths each. Next to them is Kamrup with a death toll of 10.

Comment: Assam reported 1,167 cases of AES with 158 deaths to August 31. Of these, 448 cases and 88 deaths were confirmed JE. The above report suggests 40 new cases and 6 JE deaths in the past 2 months. A similar number of AES cases and deaths not confirmed as JE is also likely. - Ro

Of the two deaths, the first was of a 21-year-old man on Tuesday night. The second was of a 19-year-old woman on Thursday, the officials said. But they refused to disclose where exactly the deaths had taken place to prevent the spread of panic.

?The deaths were not due to Zika virus. A 21-year-old man died as he was suffering from Japanese encephalitis while a young woman died as she was infected with diabetes mellitus. It is incidental that they also tested positive for Zika virus,? said Dr Himanshu Jayswar, the official spokesperson for the department of health, Madhya Pradesh.

Comment: I remain skeptical of the numbers coming out of Uttar Pradesh. Up to June 29th 112 fatalities from 1,171 cases (9.6%) were reported. Since then 11 fatalities from 1,517 cases (0.73%). Media reports put the total number of deaths at a minimum of 156 and certainly indicate that many deaths are being classified as anything but AES.

By my very incomplete count, 1 death from Chhattisgarh, 5 from Manipur, 18 total fatal cases have been reported in Kerala to November 16 in addition to 17 fatal cases due to Nipah, 7 from Madhya Pradesh, 2 from Maharashtra, 2 from Gujarat, 1 from Punjab, 5 from Uttarakhand, 6 from Tamil Nadu and 1 fatal case from Tripura.

Thus the national toll is at a very minimum 506.

By comparison the Health Management Information System (to October) is reporting 10,591 tests conducted for JE of which 1,216 have returned positive. Of those, 5,684 and 484 respectively were from Uttar Pradesh. The same report tallies 307 AES deaths & 140 JE deaths nationwide of which 16 AES and 83 JE come from UP. - Ro

Interesting report from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh;

Gorakhpur remains on sick list as the body blows keep coming.
Despite the government's claims, children continue to die at Gorakhpur.

Sources at the ward maintained that from January till October 1, there have been a total of 218 deaths due to AES and JE, while 766 patients were admitted. Gorakhpur and Deoria accounted for more than half of the cases, while Gorakhpur has seen, at least, 36 deaths. A doctor, who didn?t wish to be named, said, ?What is most worrying is that the mortality rate is very high at over 28 per cent. Last year, where there were a lot more deaths, this hovered at around 21 per cent.?

The reason, a doctor claimed, was partly diagnosis. ?This year, a lot of patients are being entered into the government?s records as suffering from Acute Febrile Illness (AFI), which, simply put, is high fever. So even if the patient dies of what is later found to be AES, the records don?t show that they had AES. This is a factor in the skewed numbers.?

The numbers at the BRD Medical College are grim. As of September 1, the combined death toll of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) was 1,637, with deaths at NICU accounting for 1,006 of these, said sources. Last year, for the same time period, this was at 1,812, with deaths at the NICU accounting for 1,101, said sources. In other words, the situation has improved from roughly 22 children dying every three days to 20 children dying every three days.

At the AES ward and the rest of Gorakhpur, posters and banners reiterate the government?s claims of vaccinating every single child for JE under its Dastak campaign. But sources in the paediatric and pathology departments pointed to a worrying trend: there have been 110 cases of JE till September, of which 23 were from Bihar. During the same period in 2017 this was at 83. Though the hospital officially denied this, sources said this indicated an increase of 24 per cent in the caseload.

Samajwadi Party MP demands 500-bed encephalitis ward be opened in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur (UP), Nov 22 Samajwadi Party MP Praveen Nishad demanded on Thursday that a 500-bed encephalitis ward be opened in the district as he submitted a memorandum asking the administration to ensure transparency in data of deaths due to the disease.

SP members led by MP Nishad and party district president Prahlad Yadav marched from the BRD Medical College here to Commissioner's office and handed over a two-point memorandum addressed to the Governor.

The MP said 98 per cent construction work of the 500-bed ward was completed during the previous Akhilesh Yadav regime but instead of opening it, the present government is focusing on construction of other encephalitis ward.
