Tribals in remote pockets of Malkangiri district of Odisha have started killing pigs as the deaths of children suffering from Japanese Encephalitis (JE) rose to 36.

In Malkangiri town, the municipality rounded up pigs as a precautionary measure. Blood samples of domesticated pigs in the district were tested JE-positive.

Malkangiri District Collector K. Sudarshan Chakravarthy told journalists that 46 children suspected to be suffering from JE were admitted to Malkangiri district hospital. Thirty-three villages have been affected by the virus. Till now 114 blood samples have been tested and of them 51 have been tested positive. Apart from isolating pigs, the host of the JE virus, efforts are on to destroy culex mosquitoes through fogging. Sanitation measures have been stepped up.

In eastern encephalitis deaths continues to recruit patients. BRD Medical College in the last twenty-four hours to ten new patients were admitted and four others were killed. Nehru 106 patients are being treated in hospital.

Among the four people killed in the five-year Shweta Kjni Gorakhpur, Gorakhpur Khorabar fifteen years of worship, two years of Sntkbirnagr Kavya and Sahana Khatun of Bihar comprises of thirteen. Five of those admitted in Gorakhpur, Mau Sntkbirnagr and Bihar, two each, and one patient. Since January this year, BRD Medical College in 1289, of which 335 patients have been admitted have been killed.

Two more children died of Japanese Encephalitis at the district headquarters hospital in Odisha?s Malkangiri last night taking the death toll in the vector-borne disease to 40 in 29 days.

More than 60 children are undergoing treatment at the hospital, sources said.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had yesterday met Union Health Minister JP Nadda at the latter?s New Delhi office and requested him to send a Central fact finding team to investigate Japanese Encephalitis outbreak in Odisha.

Gorakhpur: Twenty-four hours ago, the Medical College of another innocent died of encephalitis. Dead battery (6) Jtha son Sarfaraz Ansari hailed from Kushinagar.

The 14 new patients were admitted. 4 of those being admitted Sntkbir city of Gorakhpur and Maharajganj 2-2, 1-1 3 Kushinagar and Basti, Deoria and Siddharth are. 114 of them college encephalitis patients are being treated in the ward.

BHUBANESWAR: The central government has advised strongly against undertaking vaccination against Japanese encephalitis during the ongoing outbreak, stating that the same may boomerang.
The JE death toll in Malkangiri district rose to 42 on Saturday with the death of two children died at Malkangiri district headquarters hospital.
The state government had sought the Centre's technical advice on whether to go for vaccination in the unaffected blocks. "Answer is NO," wrote Dr A.C. Dhariwal, director, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, to his counterpart in the state.

Japanese Encephalitis claimed lives of three more children in Odisha?s Malkangiri district yesterday taking the death toll in the vector-borne disease to 44 in 30 days.

While Rupa Padiami (2) of Palakonda village under Korkonda block died at the district headquarters hospital, Jema Malali (2) of Panighata succumbed to the disease at the medical, sources said.

A 15-month-old baby boy of Koimetla village took his last breath at house before being brought to hospital.

More than 60 children are undergoing treatment at the hospital out of which condition of four is stated to be critical. They have been shifted to ICU, sources added.

Government hiding Japanese encephalitis death toll: BJP

BHUBANESWAR: The state BJP today claimed that Japanese encephalitis has taken the life of more than 75 children in the backward and tribal dominated Malkangiri district.

Even as the Malkangiri district administration put the death figure at 43, senior BJP leader and former minister Surama Padhi told reporters here that the number will be more than 75.

A member of the BJP fact-finding team that visited some affected villages of the district on Friday, Padhi held the state government responsible for the alarming spread of the disease in the tribal-dominated district.

The other 13 patients suffering from various infectious diseases are admitted. These Raju (3) Nepalganj walked resident Suresh Kumar (11) resident Mihinpurwa is stated to be in critical condition.

Malkangiri: Congress leader and former MP Pradeep Majhi today gave a 24-hr ultimatum to the State government to disclose details of the 23 children admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment of Japanese Encephalitis who allegedly went missing from the hospital.

Majhi said, ?Congress will file police complaints against the health minister and secretary and demand their arrest if data about the 23 kids are not given within the deadline.?

Commenting on the issue, Dr Kalyan Sarkar, ADMO of the District HQ hospital, said, ?Mostly attendants of child patients take their kid to home during the treatment due to lack of proper awareness. Therefore, I have instructed the hospital staff to tell people coming from villages for treatment to inform us while leaving the hospital. If possible, we will arrange vehicles for them to reach home.?

In the past twenty-four hours, sixteen new encephalitis patients were admitted to BRD Medical College and three others were killed. Nehru 106 patients are being treated in hospital.

Among the three people killed in the three-year Antia Maharajganj, Deoria, Vandana and sixteen years of dressmaking tot includes three years of Bihar. Six of those admitted in Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, four, three and Sntkbirnagr Kushinagar, Deoria and Bihar have one patient. So far this year, from January 1379, of which 356 patients have been admitted for treatment were killed.

Puri to be part of JE immunisation phase I
Puri: After Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claimed the lives nearly 50 kids in Malkinagiri district, the state government had decided to start an immunisation programme for the vector-borne disease from December this year in the worst-affected districts.
Food supplies and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Kumar Das Burma informed that Puri will be included in the first phase of immunisation for the vector-borne disease.
People in four other districts ?Malkanagiri, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar ? will also be immunised in the first phase.

Bhubaneswar: One more child lost her life to Japanese Encephalitis in Malkangiri district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as a two year -old girl child, Suman Madhi. She was a resident of Singavaram village under Kalimela block of the district.

With the death of Suman, the death toll due to Japanese Encephalitis reached 53 in the last 36 days.
