Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

What a great community. I have really enjoyed getting to know folks here and I have learned so much being a part of this site. Reporting on deaths gets a bit grim at times, but I take heart knowing that we are helping in ways I cannot even imagine.

Thank you Sharon for letting me be a part of the team.

JimO - I am not "letting" you be part of the team. lol It is an honor that you give so much time. The charts and other information you post are very illuminating. It will be great to meet you and your wife next time I am in your town.

:)

Happy Anniversary fellow FTers!!! Am proud to be among such a great group of humanitarians...

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Congratulations Sharon, Sally and all FT members! :applause:

Going back in memory... to the pandemic 2009, I remember our fight for school closure, Treyfish Dead Children thread .... A lot of stories, some with good endings, many so sad.

One touched me particularly. It was about a college student in North Carolina. Her name was Lillian. I still remember the night that her death was published. I posted it with tears falling on my computer board . Not always easy to be a flu tracker.

But there is always hope that one more post will help one more person and I guess this is why I am here.

Concerning the French Forum, about 50% of the French-speaking population of the world live in Africa. These people are challenged with conflicts, extreme poverty, hunger and so many grave diseases, underlining the great urgency to bring them information in their own language. Sadly, the information is very limited and I wish French-speaking Africans would participate in the forum.

And Sharon, thank you for taking this challenge 5 years ago. I am blessed to be part of such a great team.:)

Many more years to FT and to all, Happy Birthday!

Dutchy - Thank you very much for everything for all these years.

You embody all the attributes of a humanitarian: persistent, generous, compassionate, and humble. You have helped many with their blogs and sites never asking anything in return, or wanting acknowledgment.

You, and everyone together, are the heart of FT.

Happy Anniversary fellow FTers!!! Am proud to be among such a great group of humanitarians...

Thank you. The depth of your posting has really added to the site. All countries. Many different illnesses. It was your post in Spanish about atypical pneumonia in Mexico that started our investigation into was to become the A/H1N1 2009 pandemic.

I have really enjoyed getting to know you. You have a great sense of fun. Here is an example in one of my favorite posts that you have made:

If you were a dog, what breed would you be?

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

5 years! Happy Birthday and sincere thanks for the incredible work you have put in. I have always found FluTrackers a great comfort and island of sanity in a sea of fear and speculation. I lurked almost from the beginning thinking that I could have nothing to offer - but you have welcomed everyone and made all of us feel valued. The more information I garnered the more "in control" I felt. Thank you! Accurate analysis - and great therapy! LOL.

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Happy 5th Anniversary to all your wonderful folks at the FluTrackers community. Thank you Sharon Sanders *great site w/ a great leader, and thanks to all the mods, to Sally and Tonka and RoRo and RWilmer and Dutchy and kiwibird and Pathfinder and Shiloh and Toto, and Muscade, and JimO and Makoto and Arkanoid and MissouriWatcher and Tetano and German Doctor, and Ironorekeeper and Anne and AlaskaDenise and Niko and TreyFish...and so many others I've forgotten to mention. YOU'VE all done a great service to the global efforts to keep professionals and citizens informed of changes to our planet, understanding its pathogens and the dynamics involved in pandemics and regional outbreaks of terrible diseases.
May God and the angels keep you all safe and bless you.

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Congratulations Flutrackers.com and Sharon Sanders for all the success achieved in this leading website for information on emerging diseases!

This website is a very useful tool for professionals and people interested in health, social and media topics related to illnesses. I think is one of the best places on the internet for being well informed. This site give us to "medical workers" a unique opportunity to discuss and add new information and transmit our opinion about different subjects related to emerging diseases.

I would like to thank all the people behind those "nicknames" who make possible this ambitious project always based on solidarity of the people that spend hours a day searching and posting really good information on FT and other friend forum/blogs.

Thank you for everything!

Also, You can see my congratulatory post in Spanish

RoRo - You are the phenomenal one.

Thank you for such perseverance on many threads. This really helps give a world global view of disease status. Your analysis is very helpful and it is obvious that you are a really great teacher. Your children are lucky to have you for a father.

You, too, have a cheery laugh in your voice when we talk. And a great Irish accent!

Re: Happy 5th Anniversary to the FluTrackers Team!

Feliz Quinto Aniversario, Flutrackers!

I am so happy to be a tiny part of such an important effort.

The translation of Sharon's words to Spanish http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?p=392533#post392533 is my way to say thank you. :magnify:

Thank you Sharon, thanks to Sally Furniss and to everyone of you.

LaMenchos :)

LaMenchos - Gracias!

I do not think people know but you have routinely translated important health advisories into Spanish. Most of the time before the relevant authority. In fact, I do not think all of the advisories that you have translated and posted on this site have yet been translated on the government's site.

For example this is a very important advisory about how nursing mothers can protect their babies from cholera:

OPS: La lactancia materna ayuda a los bebés Proteger de la cólera

Or this translation of the descriptions of symptoms of cholera. The thread has almost 800 hits:

I really enjoy our phone conversations and I hope we can meet when I am in your town.

Thank you for everything Kiwibird. It was great to talk to you a few weeks ago. Your constant presence adds to the stability of the site. This is very important for our future. Many times in the pandemic people told me that it was a comfort to log onto FT and see familiar monikers at the bottom of the page. One person told me that they felt they were "home".
