31 children under the age of 5, 88 children aged 5-14 and 2,706 persons in the age groups 15 to 59 years and 525
persons 60 years and older (see Figure 2). The age of 10 notified cases is unknown. The median age is 46 years.

Case numbers
With over 1,000 cases in Germany, the COVID-19 case numbers can no longer be manually updated and reported
in a quality assured manner. Therefore, epidemiological evaluations in the COVID-19 situation report are based
only on the electronically transmitted data available to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) at the time of the data
closure. The number of cases notified in advance manually will be listed in addition to the electronically reported
cases until 16/03/2020 (see Table 1), after which only the electronically transmitted cases will be shown.
A total of 4,838 (+1,043) laboratory-confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been detected
in Germany since 27/01/2020, of which 4,195 were electronically reported to and validated at the RKI. So far,
12 (+4) deaths related to COVID-19 diseases were reported.

Among these cases. 6.183 are male (56%) and 4.782 female (44%). The age range is from 0 to 98 years, including 87 children under the age of 5, 266 children aged 5 to 14 years, 8.790 persons aged 15 to 59 years and 1.800 persons 60 years and older (see Figure 2). The age of 56 notified cases is unknown. The median age is 47 years.

Notes on recording and publishing COVID 19 case numbers:
In Germany, the approximately 400 health offices electronically transmit pseudonymized data on confirmed COVID-19 cases to the federal states at least once a day (in the current situation even more frequently) on the basis of the Infection Protection Act. They in turn transmit the data on the COVID-19 cases electronically to the RKI. Data reporting at 00:00 a.m.

The number of cases of sick and deceased are updated on the website after a short check once a day - in the morning each time.

On the other hand, the RKI publishes daily situation reports on COVID-19, which also contain case numbers: www.rki.de/covid-19-situationsbericht . The case numbers from the management report relate to the same data status, i.e. 00:00 each time.

There is a certain period of time between the becoming known of a case on site, the notification to the health authority, the entry of the data in the software, the transmission to the responsible state authority and from there to the RKI. According to the requirements in the Infection Protection Act, this can be two to three working days. In the current situation, the transmission is significantly faster than in routine operation because data is processed faster. The fact that some cases are electronically recorded in the health department with a delay is also due to the fact that the health authorities first have to carry out investigations into the individual cases and their contact persons and that priority must be given to infection protection measures, which is already taking up a lot of the resources of the health authorities. The data is also validated at the RKI, to publish reliable data. There may also be slight delays within this process.
