Quito, Jun 30 (EFE) .- Ecuador registered 56,342 positives for COVID-19 on Tuesday, 677 more cases than the previous day, while the deceased amounted to 4,527 officers and 3,071 probable, according to the official daily report issued by the Ministry of Public Health.

The official and probable death figures do not include the 10,000 deaths that were recorded in the city of Guayaquil between the second half of March and the first of April, in the worst humanitarian crisis experienced by the country's main economic city.

By province and according to PCR tests only, that of Guayas (whose capital is Guayaquil) continues to lead the contagions with 15,012, which represents 31.7% of the total of historical positives, while that of Pichincha, with Quito as head , adds 7,220, 139 more cases than the day before, and represents 15.2% of the cases.

Ecuadorian President Len?n Moreno on Monday called on the population to demonstrate responsibility to curb the boom in infections in some areas of the country, such as the capital, where the health system, according to the authorities, has reached its "maximum power."

Moreno censured that in the first fifteen days of June 1,200 parties have been reported nationwide, which had to be dissolved by the police authorities and that 57,000 drivers and other 106,000 citizens have been punished for violating the restrictions, still in force since mid-March to mitigate the pandemic.

Of the 3,842 positive cases registered in Quito between March 13 and June 3, when the most restrictive mobility measures were in force, the number grew by 2,611 in the last 26 days when de-escalation began in the city, which represents an increase of 68%. EFE
