I want to thank the Doctor and Shannon for their recommendations and advise on Vit D-3 and it's role in combatting/mimimizing the SW flu Pandemic. I have become a true believer and may be the most UV- bombarded &
toasted person in Scal(i spend a lot of time outdoors- Am a surf and cycling nut if u really need to know, plus i have a garden).

Come Oct I wiil take 5000 Iu's per day in pill form, as the natural UV''s from the sun will decrease significantly here in Scal. This is just one part of an overall comprehensive plan for boosting my health and immune systems as the second deadly pandemic wave sweeps across america, hitting SCal in Oct, perhaps earlier.

I must frankly said that after talking with 5 diferent area sub-specialists hospital doctors, no one thinks it is a good idea taking pils/drops of vitamin D supplements even in low precautionary dosages.

In areas with enaugh sun, their suggestion were to take only morning/evening sun exposures, and food rich in vitamin D.

The point of mine post #290 was that nobody officialy suggests or are not informed, nor have directives to diramate through GP, or by the media, any directives of ingestion to the population of vitamin D, or other cheap generic compound, as a pandemic flu preventive.

So, it is not matter widely if it works, if the masses don't know or are not directed to by their health estabs.

With all my respect, I suggest to the above cited: "world leaders in vitamin D research (decades of experience with clinical trials)" ,
to exit the scientific studies diatribes and make an joint statement to the worldwide scientific and health community, for an worldwide fast official guidance for vitamin D (or other) pandemic suplementation of the population - especialy if those professionals are not multinational corporations researchers only, and if they are - to act through the official estab systems openly to explain this need.

Any blogging depiction of various studies, or shadowed needings communications, will not enhance the usage in the wide world population - if this is the goal of this thread.

If the goal is to porge the knowledge only here,
than it will be an individual decision of the surfers, because this is not an official public health guideline, ad example as was the one to insert iode in salt.

Does the insertion of vitamins in the margarin are a result of public health guidelines, or food producers, as many other aditives in many food, or not?
Any way, many don't eat margarin, but butter or nothing, because of supposed more genuinity (even if all the industrial processed food are now somehow tampered).

I would get a GP to measure my D levels right now. I suspect your levels are low simply because of your latitude. So, the answer is probably yes, you will have to take this year round.

We now came to the core of this cheap generic compound question.

It is the health "caste" that mainly don't want to air any novel usage out of the traditional ones, or the corporation reclamized as "working".

That's why all the countries have their's inner evaluation system which must give recommendations, additionaly to the worldwide ones.

And they also are the ones who must make this evaluation about vitamins/... as an anti-pandemic measure.
And they didn't.

Until that will not be the case, there will be no efforts to treating by compounds the bilions (if this realy works) until the illness would not be overwhelming, and than it will be maybe late.

So, this cheap compounds effort seems will remain an individual effort.

Shannon brings up an important point - get your Vitamin D levels checked. I would also suggest getting the levels checked again after a few months of sun and supplements. Depending on a number of variables, your levels may not be what you expect.

Meanwhile, spend 15-20 minutes in the full sun each day while the sun is still producing sufficient UV rays.

I just found a new form of vitamin D-3. It's Gummie D-3. Yep, they're good tasting soft small chewy flavored 1000 IU small rounds. They're "Spring Valley" brand at Walmart and it's $5.34 for 150 gummies. They taste good. It's D-3 as cholecalciferol.

I have been reading these posts regarding vit d and I recall reading a scientific article that stated that L bacteria in the intestines can prevent vit d at the vit d receptor site and that to allow the vit d receptor to process it you must decrease the L bacteria in the intestines. So is it possible that this is why there is a vit d defieciency in most people? I will try to find the link, but it was months ago that I read the article. It appears that maybe some rx with acidophilus for a while would rid the L bacteria and allow absorption of the vit d????
anyone have a comment or knowledge of this?

Stocked up on some higher dosage vitamin D in an oil form today and noticed that it was derived from wool oil. That was news to me but I see that mentioned in other threads here.

To determine<SUP> </SUP>whether induction of cathelicidin was required for the vitamin<SUP> </SUP>D-triggered antimicrobial activity, the human monocytic cell<SUP> </SUP>line THP-1 was infected with M. tuberculosis H37Ra and then<SUP> </SUP>activated with the active vitamin D hormone 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin<SUP> </SUP>D<SUB>3</SUB> (1,25D<SUB>3</SUB>). 1,25D<SUB>3</SUB> stimulation resulted in antimicrobial activity<SUP> </SUP>against intracellular M. tuberculosis and expression of cathelicidin<SUP> </SUP>mRNA and protein. Using small interfering RNA (siRNA) specific<SUP> </SUP>for cathelicidin, 1,25D<SUB>3</SUB>-induced cathelicidin mRNA and protein<SUP> </SUP>expressions were efficiently knocked down, whereas a nonspecific<SUP> </SUP>siRNA control had little effect. Finally, 1,25D<SUB>3</SUB>-induced antimicrobial<SUP> </SUP>activity was completely inhibited in the presence of siRNA against<SUP> </SUP>cathelicidin, instead leading to enhanced intracellular growth<SUP> </SUP>of mycobacteria. In innate immune responses, activation of Toll-like receptors<SUP> </SUP>(TLRs) triggers direct antimicrobial activity against intracellular<SUP> </SUP>bacteria, which in murine, but not human, monocytes and macrophages<SUP> </SUP>is mediated principally by nitric oxide. We report here that<SUP> </SUP>TLR activation of human macrophages up-regulated expression<SUP> </SUP>of the vitamin D receptor and the vitamin D-1?hydroxylase<SUP> </SUP>genes, leading to induction of the antimicrobial peptide cathelicidin<SUP> </SUP>and killing of intracellular Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We<SUP> </SUP>also observed that sera from African-American individuals, known<SUP> </SUP>to have increased susceptibility to tuberculosis, had low 25-hydroxyvitamin<SUP> </SUP>D and were inefficient in supporting cathelicidin messenger<SUP> </SUP>RNA induction. These data support a link between TLRs and vitamin<SUP> </SUP>D?mediated innate immunity and suggest that differences<SUP> </SUP>in ability of human populations to produce vitamin D may contribute<SUP> </SUP>to susceptibility to microbial infection.<SUP> </SUP>

Re: Cytokine Storm & Vitamin D relationship?

My search for Merricats information has brought me some unexpected results. It appears that MRSA infections and a low vit D rate among hospital patients have a strong correlation. I cannot open any of these links but here are a few studies linking the two phenomena. In the second study and in several other studies there appears to be a link between low vit. d levels and tuberculosis.
