Colombia exceeds 5,000 cases of covid-19 and the deceased reach 233
Saturday April 25, 2020 | 19:42

Colombia reached 5,142 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with the 261 infected infected this Saturday, while it reported eight deaths and there are 233 fatalities, the Ministry of Health detailed in its daily report.

Of the new cases, 89 were reported in Bogot?, followed by Risaralda (32), Meta (24), Amazonas (23), Atl?ntico (22), Valle del Cauca (19), Nari?o (13), Cesar (11), Cundinamarca (7), Bol?var (6), Magdalena (5), La Guajira (3), Antioquia, Huila and Magdalena (2), Santander, Tolima and C?rdoba (1).

As for the deceased, the Ministry detailed that three deaths occurred in Bogot? - a 91-year-old woman and two men aged 78 and 46 - while a 79-year-old adult died who became the first fatality in Leticia, capital of the Amazonas and that shares a triple border with Peru and Brazil.

The other four deaths are those of a 66-year-old man in Cali, in the Valle del Cauca department; an 82-year-old woman in R?o de Oro, in Cesar; an adult of 85 in Valledupar, the capital of Cesar, and a man of 80 in San Francisco, in Antioquia.

On the day, 3,068 tests were processed, 53 fewer than on Friday and the recovery of 64 people was confirmed for a total of 1,067 citizens who overcame the disease.

On the other hand, Bogot? registers the main focus of Colombia's COVID-19 with 2,152 patients, while Valle del Cauca (816), Antioquia (449), Bol?var (226), Cundinamarca (196), Meta ( 186), Risaralda (180), Atl?ntico (156), Magdalena (152), Nari?o (92), Huila (84) and Norte de Santander (60).

To combat the spread of the coronavirus, Colombia is in a quarantine that began on March 25 and was prolonged by President Iv?n Duque until May 11.

CONCERN IN THE AMAZON

With today's report, the Amazon went from 14 to 37 cases in total, which set off alarms in that region and for which reason its governor, Jes?s Galdino, said that this department is "in emergency at this time."

"We need assistance in a very special way for the department of Amazonas. We need to expedite the sending of resources to the department. We have been allocated resources for the health sector but we do not have these resources here and we do not know how to handle them how it should be, "said Galdino.

He added that "there is an imminent increase in cases of COVID-19 in the Amazon on the two borders" that are "here with Brazil and Peru."

"In our neighboring countries, these cases are increasing exponentially, which translates to us at a given moment and we see it in this way the new number of patients with COVID-19," he said.

The collective resignation of nearly 30 doctors who demanded sanitary protection measures against the coronavirus arrived at Leticia's public hospital last Monday.

On April 17, the Ministry of Health reported the first case of COVID-19 in the Amazon, whose capital forms a triple border with Tabatinga (Brazil) and Santa Rosa de Yavar? (Peru).

The doctors denounced that there are no biosafety guarantees for the provision of health services for medical personnel and also "for support services, being a risk of contagion at a general level."

The department's precarious health conditions can put one of the most vulnerable populations in the country in check.

For this reason, the doctors who resigned assured that "they cannot be part of the arbitrary decisions and the non guarantees to the personnel", and instead they considered that they should try to protect their lives and that of others.

Bogot? continues as the largest focus of Covid-19 in Colombia
Published on May 3, 2020 (41 minutes ago)

The Colombian capital almost triples the numbers of Valle del Cauca, the second city with the most cases registered in that South American nation.

The Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection confirmed that Bogot? (capital) continues to be the main source of contagion for the new coronavirus in the country, with 114 deaths and a total of 2,958 positive cases.

The Colombian capital almost triples the numbers of Valle del Cauca, the second city with the most cases, which registers 1,059 infected people.

According to figures from the Bogot? Health Observatory, Kennedy is the most affected sector in the capital with 505 cases, while nine others exceed 100 positives, including Suba and Engativa, with more than 300 infected people.

For her part, the Mayor of Bogot?, Claudia L?pez, declared that the Colombian capital will take time to return to normal and that departures must be in turns.

Likewise, L?pez explains that some of the consequences of the quarantine, to which the city is subjected, will be that "mass transportation will no longer be massive", since they will only operate at 35 percent of their capacity to maintain distances and be safer.

The mayor indicated that the remaining school semester would be carried out from virtual education at home, and the work will be mostly with the telework model.

According to the report of this Sunday, in Colombia 7,668 infections have been reported, as well as 340 deaths and 1,722 recovered.
