With an overwhelmed pandemic, Colombia adds a new record of cases and reaches 25,366
05/29/2020 02:37

The report of the Ministry of Health also includes 19 deceased for a total of 822 deaths in the country.

The numbers on the progression of the disease are constantly increasing and in the last three days the number of infections has exceeded a thousand: 1,022 on Tuesday, 1,101 on Wednesday and 1,262 today.

Bogot? concentrated the majority of cases this Thursday, with 491, followed by the Atl?ntico department, with 162, of which 84 were in Barranquilla, its capital.

The Guain?a department, a jungle region bordering Brazil and Venezuela and where the first beds were recently installed in the only Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in that remote area, today registered the first six cases of COVID-19.

According to the Ministry of Health, this Thursday 12,150 tests were processed, for a cumulative of 295,613, and the people recovered are 6,665.

CARTAGENA HAS MORE DEADLY VICTIMS

In addition to the seven who died today in Cartagena, three more people died in Valle del Cauca (two in its capital, Cali, and one in Buenaventura).

In Bogot? there were two deaths as well as the jungle Leticia, capital of the Amazon, on the border with Brazil and Peru, while the remaining five occurred in Barraquilla (Atl?ntico), Tumaco and Mosquera (Nari?o), Tasco (Boyac?) and Villanueva ( Bolivar).

Cartagena, with 107 deaths, is the second city in the country in deaths, surpassed only by Bogot?, which has double: 214, and where infections are multiplied daily.

THE CAPITAL EXPANDS THE QUARANTINE

Faced with this situation, the mayor of Bogot?, Claudia L?pez, extended until June 15 the quarantine that is scheduled to end on May 31 at the national level.

"Bogot? will remain in the current conditions of partial isolation until at least June 15," L?pez said, speaking at a session of the Senate First Committee in which the management and challenges of the pandemic were discussed.

Despite the restrictions imposed by the authorities during the quarantine that began on March 25, thousands and thousands of people go out into the streets of the country every day, including those who have to do it to work, those who need to do it because they have nothing to eat and those who simply do not abide by the measures. Coronavirus in Colombia: there are already more than 45,000 infected
The report of the Ministry of Health reported a total of 45,212 cases, 1,488 deaths and 17,790 recovered.

This Thursday, Colombia exceeded 45,000 cases of infected by coronavirus. The report of the Ministry of Health reported a total of 45,212 infected. In the last 24 hours there were 1,530 new cases and 55 deaths.

Bogot? had the majority of new cases (406) and the Mayor's Office announced that 53% of the occupation of the city's ICUs was exceeded, so an orange alert could be decreed in case this figure does not drop in the next 24 hours.

"The District Health Secretary begins permanent 24-hour monitoring, that is, until 12:00 noon on June 12, 2020, of the occupation of ICUs in the city. During this time, if the indicator of occupation is maintained or continues to increase, an orange alert would be decreed, "said a statement.

In turn, it is striking that of the 55 deaths reported, 17 were in Barranquilla, the highest number for this city. In the capital of the Atlantic there were 204 infected, being the second city with the highest increase after Bogot?.

The Quibd? case is also worrying considering that there were 4 deaths and 20 new infected. This is very serious because the Health Superintendency intervened the San Francisco de As?s Hospital in Quibd?, the department's main healthcare center.

According to this entity, the hospital "does not guarantee preventive, corrective maintenance and calibrations of biomedical equipment, and it has quality failures in the provision of clinical laboratory, blood transfusion and pharmaceutical service services."

As for the financial situation, the San Francisco de As?s Hospital operates at a loss and accumulates up to 7 months of delay in payments to the health personnel who care for the patients.
