Immunology expert Wang Yuedan: New type of coronavirus pneumonia is highly likely to be transmitted from person to person

2020-01-20 16:22:07 Beijing News reporter: Wang Feixiang
Wang Yuedan believes that the possibility of continued increase in confirmed cases still exists.

Beijing News (Reporter Wang Feixiang intern Sun Chao) On January 18 and 19, Wuhan added another 136 confirmed patients with pneumonia infected by a new type of coronavirus. As of 22:00 on January 19, 198 cases of pneumonia of new coronavirus infection have been reported in Wuhan. Three people with new coronavirus pneumonia were also found in Beijing and Guangdong.

Today (January 20), Wang Yuedan, a professor of immunology at the Peking University School of Medicine, said in an interview with the Beijing News that the recent sharp increase in confirmed cases indicates that this new type of coronavirus is no longer in a limited stage of infection: "Previously Wuhan Health The health committee's briefing mentioned that there was no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission, and later it was said to have limited transmission. There are now 136 confirmed cases. Furthermore, limited transmission may be difficult to explain, so the possibility of human-to-human transmission is still very high. "

Wang Yuedan has been deeply involved in immunology for many years. He was involved in immunological research during the SARS epidemic in 2003.

Source and scope of infection should be determined as soon as possible

Wang Yuedan believes that the current intensive diagnosis may be the confirmed diagnosis of suspected cases accumulated earlier, and the possibility of continued increase in confirmed cases still exists.

"From now on, the source of infection and the route of transmission are unclear, and it may be difficult to compare. We can only prevent and control based on our experience with SARS. At the moment, the most urgent thing is, first, to find animals carrying the new coronavirus; Second, develop antibody detection reagents as soon as possible, and quickly perform pathological tests on suspected cases and their close contacts to determine the source and scope of infection. "Wang Yuedan said.

Wang Yuedan believes that it is still in the pre-infectious disease outbreak period, which requires close observation: "SARS mortality is about 10%. At present, the mortality rate of new coronaviruses is not so high. But it may have something to do with the treatment. Now the treatment is higher than SARS. "If you can quickly find the source of infection, you can have more targeted treatment and the mortality rate will be greatly reduced."

Airport train stations need key prevention and control

Regarding the prevention and control of new coronavirus infections, Wang Yuedan said that the first is to isolate the suspected infection, confirm the diagnosis as soon as possible, and conduct medical observation on close contacts. The common feature of most confirmed cases abroad is that they have been to Wuhan. At the same time, he also suggested that people who have been to Wuhan should go out as little as possible, and if there are suspected symptoms, they should seek medical treatment as soon as possible. And when telling a doctor, you should tell the doctor that you have been to Wuhan recently.

Cases found in Beijing and Shenzhen have traveled in Wuhan. Wang Yuedan believes that people should focus on densely moving places such as airports or train stations. People coming out of Wuhan should take temperature measurements. If fever is found, they should be isolated and observed. To further reduce the risk of infection from other places, at the same time strengthen publicity and take diversion measures at airport stations. It is recommended that everyone stay less in densely populated areas, strengthen the disinfection of places, and provide masks in related places.

Wang Yuedan believes that wearing a mask has a certain effect on personal protection, because a mask has a protective effect on SARS. This time the virus has a similar approach to SARS. Wearing a mask may be useful. In addition, the public should pay attention to environmental disinfection and clean hands. Some air disinfection devices can be used, such as spraying disinfectant in the air. Pay attention to keep warm, rest, eat high-calorie digestible food, and improve your immunity.

CHP provides latest information on pneumonia cases of novel coronavirus infection in Mainland and Korea and revises reporting criteria
************************************************************************************

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) today (January 20) received notification from the National Health Commission (NHC) on the latest information on the pneumonia cases of the novel coronavirus infection detected in the Mainland. The public is again urged to maintain strict personal, food and environmental hygiene both locally and during travel.

According to the information from the NHC, from January 18 to 10pm yesterday (January 19), 136 additional pneumonia cases of the novel coronavirus infection in Wuhan were reported. The patients comprised 66 males and 70 females, aged 25 to 89, who developed symptoms before January 18 this year. Most presented with fever, cough or chest tightness, and shortness of breath. According to the newly revised treatment plan, patients' medical conditions are classified as either stable, serious or critical. Among the additional cases, 100 are in stable condition, 33 are in serious condition, and three are in critical condition, with one of them having died.

As of 10pm yesterday, the total number of novel coronavirus infections in Wuhan was 198 cases. Among them, 25 patients have been discharged, and three have died. Currently, 170 are still hospitalised. Among them, 126 patients are in stable condition, 35 are in serious condition and nine are in critical condition. A total of 817 close contacts have been identified. All have been put under medical surveillance, with 727 of them having completed the surveillance. No related cases have been detected so far.

Separately, according to the information from the NHC, a medical institution in the Daxing District of Beijing yesterday received two patients who had been to Wuhan. Both patients have presented with fever but with no respiratory symptoms at the moment. Upon testing and evaluation, both were confirmed pneumonia cases of the novel coronavirus infection. They are currently receiving treatment in isolation and are in stable condition. Medical surveillance against close contacts has been initiated, and no abnormalities such as fever have been detected among them so far.

The Health Commission of Guangdong Province also reported that the first imported pneumonia case of the novel coronavirus infection was confirmed yesterday. The patient is a 66-year-old man residing in Shenzhen, who travelled to Wuhan on December 29 last year and developed symptoms including fever and generalised weakness on January 3 this year. He sought medical attention in Shenzhen on January 4 and was transferred to receive treatment in isolation on January 11. Upon laboratory testing, he tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The Guangdong Province has commenced relevant contact tracing against close contacts.

In addition, the CHP has been closely monitoring the first confirmed case of infection of the novel coronavirus in Korea. According to the information from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the case involved a 35-year-old female, who came from Wuhan, Hubei Province. She arrived in Korea on January 19 and was detected to be having a fever. She subsequently tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon laboratory testing.

In view of the latest situation and risk assessment, the CHP will enhance surveillance of suspected cases and revise the reporting criteria of Severe Respiratory Disease associated with a Novel Infectious Agent. Details are as follows:

Medical practitioners are requested to make a report to the CHP for further investigation if they encounter an individual with fever and acute respiratory illness, or pneumonia, and who had experienced one of the following within 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms: (a) visited Hubei Province (regardless of whether the individual had visited wet markets or seafood markets there); or (b) visited a medical hospital in the Mainland; or (c) had close contact with a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus while that patient was symptomatic.

After reviewing the latest situation, the DH would impose a health declaration form system on inbound travellers by air from Wuhan under the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap 599A) starting from midnight tomorrow (January 21). These travellers will be required to complete and submit a health declaration form. If they are found to have fulfilled the reporting criteria of identifying Severe Respiratory Disease associated with a Novel Infectious Agent, they will be compulsorily referred to public hospitals for isolation, treatment and follow-up.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "The CHP will issue letters to doctors and private hospitals to inform them of the revised reporting criteria. The CHP will continue to maintain its liaison with the NHC, the World Health Organization and overseas health authorities, and closely monitor the situation for risk assessment."

The spokesman reminded the public to avoid close contact with persons with fever or respiratory symptoms in countries/areas with possible transmission of the novel coronavirus infection. If it is unavoidable to come into contact with them, put on a surgical mask and continue to do so until 14 days after returning to Hong Kong.

A dedicated webpage (www.chp.gov.hk/en/features/102465.html) has been set up by the CHP to provide relevant information and health advice on Severe Respiratory Disease associated with a Novel Infectious Agent. Information on the affected countries/areas is available from the following webpage: www.chp.gov.hk/files/pdf/statistics_of_the_cases_novel_coronavirus_infection.pdf...

[h=1]Why was 136 cases of new coronavirus pneumonia newly diagnosed in Wuhan in two days? The reason is here[/h]

2020-01-20 18:45:05
The Beijing News expresses that on the afternoon of the 20th, the popular cloud platform of the Chinese Academy of Sciences answered "Why so many confirmed cases suddenly increased?"

Because there is a virus nucleic acid detection kit.

At a press conference held by the Wuhan Municipal Health and Health Committee in the early morning of the 19th, Huang Chaolin, an expert from the Hubei Provincial Medical Group, deputy director and chief physician of Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, answered a reporter's question and said, "Unknown viral pneumonia in Wuhan was identified After the new coronavirus infection, relevant national scientific research institutions quickly developed viral nucleic acid detection kits, and then optimized the technology. On January 16, after the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention received the kits issued by the state, it began testing Wuhan Specimens from patients with unexplained viral pneumonia submitted for testing for pathogenicity. "

The nucleic acid detection kit can quickly determine whether a specific gene sequence exists in the sample of the case through the PCR method. For different viruses, different nucleic acid detection kits can be developed. However, this test needs to be based on a known virus, that is, a known virus is equivalent to having an ID card, and a sample of the case can be judged only by comparison. The pathogen this time is a new type of coronavirus. Since it has not appeared before, we do not have its "identity card", so we cannot quickly determine it. Recently, relevant national scientific research institutions quickly developed a viral nucleic acid detection kit. After receiving the nationally issued kit, the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention began to conduct pathogenic testing on specimens of patients with unexplained viral pneumonia submitted for inspection in Wuhan. This is the case of "suddenly so many cases".

According to previous reports, in the early morning of January 20, the Wuhan Municipal Health and Health Commission notified the pneumonia of the new coronavirus infection. According to the report, on January 18 and 19, 136 cases of pneumonia with new coronavirus infection were newly confirmed.

The World Health Organization, governments and Chinese officials have begun to strengthen efforts to suppress new coronaviruses. Preliminary research results show that this new coronavirus belongs to the same species as the virus that caused SARS between 2002 and 2003. Although experts believe that compared with the virus that causes SARS, this new coronavirus has a lower lethality. And the understanding of human-to-human transmission rates is still very limited.

(Voice of German in Chinese) The number of confirmed cases of new coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan has increased to 217 in just two days, and the third death has occurred since the outbreak. In addition, Radio Hong Kong reported that Beijing's Daxing District Health Commission also reported that the district's medical institution had received two fever patients who had been to Wuhan. The Guangdong Health Committee announced in the early hours of Monday that a 66-year-old male patient living in Shenzhen visited his relatives in Wuhan on December 29 last year. He developed fever and fatigue on the 3rd of this month and was transferred to Shenzhen after the next consultation The city's designated hospital was isolated and treated. After identification by the National Health Commission, it was confirmed to be a new type of coronavirus pneumonia. The patient is currently in a stable condition.

China's National Health Commission said on Sunday (January 19) that, as China is about to enter the Lunar New Year holiday, in order to effectively curb the spread of the new coronavirus, various government departments should cooperate with each other to find ways to effectively prevent the spread of the virus. The National Health and Medical Commission stated on Sunday: "The National Health and Medical Commission will strengthen departmental coordination to strictly implement epidemic prevention measures; continue to do a good job in national epidemic prevention and control to detect and effectively deal with epidemics in a timely manner; Major environmental sanitation efforts; continue to strengthen virus tracing and mutation monitoring, and make technical preparations to respond to epidemic changes. "

The National Health and Health Commission promised to strengthen its duty on duty during the Spring Festival, pay close attention to the development and change of the epidemic prevention and control situation, and guide localities to implement prevention and control measures. So far, two people in Wuhan have been killed by a new coronavirus. In addition, there are currently 3 confirmed cases overseas, and infected people have recently visited Wuhan. WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic responded to a question from the Central News Agency of Taiwan on the spread of the virus on Sunday, stating that according to the latest information and WHO analysis, there is evidence that 2019-nCoV is a limited human-to-human transmission, which is similar to other respiratory systems Experience with diseases, especially other coronavirus outbreaks, is consistent.

Jazarevik said that although there is no clear evidence of continuous transmission between people, there is currently insufficient evidence to assess the overall scope of human-to-human transmission, which is one of the issues that WHO is closely monitoring.

Knowledge about viruses is still very limited

The World Health Organization, governments and Chinese officials have begun to strengthen efforts to suppress new coronaviruses. Preliminary research results show that this new coronavirus belongs to the same species as the virus that caused SARS between 2002 and 2003. Although experts believe that compared with the virus that causes SARS, this new coronavirus has a lower lethality. And the understanding of human-to-human transmission rates is still very limited.

The World Health Organization said on Sunday that some of the newly diagnosed new cases were not related to Wuhan South China Seafood City. Xu Shuchang, Chair Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong School of Medicine, said that three new cases of coronavirus pneumonia have occurred in Thailand and Japan, suggesting that the virus has begun to spread outside Wuhan.

Reuters reports that Wuhan officials have been using infrared thermometers at airports, train stations and other public transportation bases to monitor the temperature of passengers since January 14. In addition, Wuhan will also strengthen epidemic surveillance at large-scale event sites and reduce the number of public events in the next few days.

US authorities have indicated that passengers arriving directly or indirectly from Wuhan will be tested for symptoms at three airports in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the three airports are the three major airports for Wuhan passengers entering the United States.

Earlier, a study published by the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis at Imperial College London in the UK showed that the actual number of people infected with the new coronavirus may be "significantly" than the official number of infections currently announced by Wuhan. More". In the most basic case, the number of basic coronavirus-related symptoms in Wuhan should be around 1,700.

In Asia, airports in Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand have stepped up inspections of passengers from Wuhan. Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines have also said they have stepped up inspections of new viruses in Wuhan at all airports.

Guangdong confirms 13 new cases of coronavirus infection
2020-01-20 20:09 Source: Southern Network Li Xiuting

After the National Health and Health Commission confirmed the first case of pneumonia imported from our country with a new type of coronavirus infection, on January 20th, our province's expert group based on Second Edition) ", combined with the patient's epidemiological investigation, clinical manifestations and pathogenic test results, confirmed 13 new cases of pneumonia confirmed by new coronavirus infection.

分布 The distribution of new cases is as follows: 8 cases in Shenzhen, 3 cases in Zhuhai, 1 case in Zhanjiang and Huizhou, all were treated in isolation at local designated medical institutions. Among them, 8 were males and 5 females; 8 were elderly over 60 years, 4 were young adults, and 1 was 10 years old. Eleven cases had a history of living or traveling in Wuhan, and two had a history of close contact with the case. The first symptoms are mostly fever, cough (mainly dry cough), fatigue, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing. There were 4 severe cases, 2 critical cases, and no deaths. Our province has followed up close followers, and currently there is no abnormality.

Since the outbreak of pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus in Wuhan, the provincial party committee and government of our province have attached great importance to epidemic prevention and control. The provincial government has set up an epidemic disposal leading group, prevention and control expert group, and epidemic prevention and control guarantee group to coordinate and lead the whole province. Epidemic prevention and control work. The Provincial Health and Health Committee has set up a leading group for epidemic prevention and control and three expert groups including clinical treatment, prevention and control, and etiology to formulate various emergency measures and work plans in a timely manner. Leading groups and expert groups have been set up in various cities and municipalities. According to the unified deployment of the state and the provincial and provincial governments, the epidemic situation has been closely monitored, patients have been spared no effort, the pre-examination and triage of fever clinics have been strengthened, and screening, diagnosis and treatment of suspicious cases have been standardized jobs. All departments have joint prevention, control, and in-depth patriotic health campaigns, strengthened environmental sanitation, and formed a joint force for prevention and control.

The NHC confirmed 2 suspected casesin Shanghai in post #300 link so the above case is probably one of those. Xinhua (post #303) is state media. I will post on our case list. That now makes 218 confirmed for China.
