This Thursday the health minister Jaime Ma?alich delivered a new report of the coronavirus in Chile, but began by clarifying some points. In the first place, he referred to the delivery of the Covid card from Monday, April 20.

This will be delivered to those who have already overcome the disease and are unable to infect others. In this line, he assured that he will consider patients who, after 14 days since they have the infection, no longer have symptoms, among others.

Secondly, the minister announced that this Friday they will communicate a circular regarding the use of masks. This will continue to be mandatory in public transport, adding other spaces such as elevators or closed spaces where there are more than 10 people together. For example, in an educational establishment, sports venues, airports, theaters, cinemas, bars, health establishments, places where food is manufactured, residences for the elderly, among others.

Then the undersecretary of healthcare networks Arturo Z??iga delivered the latest report of coronavirus cases, reporting 534 new cases, thus reaching 8807 infected people. On the other hand, the number of recovered reached 3299, which corresponds to 37% of infections.

In addition, 11 new deaths were reported, thus reaching 105. As for patients in intensive care units, it was noted that 313 of them are undergoing mechanical ventilation and 90 in critical condition. At the same time, the undersecretary clarified that there are 569 fans available nationwide.

Finally, it was mentioned that the number of tests carried out this Wednesday was 6,551, which would explain the increase in new cases. Thus, there are already more than 90 thousand examinations carried out to detect the coronavirus.

The authorities of the Chilean Ministry of Health reported on Friday the latest figures of infections and deaths from coronavirus, adding 445 new cases, which make a total of 9,252, and 11 new deceased, bringing the death toll to 116.

Regarding infections, the Undersecretary of Health, Paula Daza, affirmed that 5,500 people have the disease actively, being able to spread more people, while 3,621 would have already recovered.

According to the undersecretary of Healthcare Networks, Arturo Z??iga, there are 97 patients connected to ventilators who are in critical condition, while the available mechanical ventilators amount to 579.

NEW MEASURES FROM THIS FRIDAY

This Friday the decree of mandatory use of masks in public and private transport, lifts and open or closed spaces that gather more than 10 people was published in the Official Gazette of the country.

In other measures, the Health Minister, Jaime Ma?alich, stressed the implementation of a "covid card," an identification document that would be issued to people already recovered from the virus and who could potentially be immune.

The documentation will be granted to people who have presented symptoms or who have officially declared the disease without presenting symptoms, in periods ranging from 14 to 28 days.

CORONAVIRUSES: A "LONG" THEME

The high authority also emphasized that the coronavirus crisis can last for years.

"What needs to be clearly understood is that this is a subject that is going to be very long. We are going to have a kind of coexistence with the virus for what may be many years, until a vaccine against the coronavirus appears or the majority of the world population has suffered the infection and cured, "said Ma?alich.

"You don't have to think that thinking that the light at the end of the tunnel is at hand, in 2 or 3 months," he added.

With the new figures, Chile is currently the third Latin American country with the most infections and despite the closure of borders, it has not decreed a national quarantine, making confinements in certain neighborhoods or cities.

Thus, the only territories found with the measure are: El Bosque, Punta Arena, Osorno, Temuco, Chill?n, Chill?n Viejo; a part of the communes (neighborhoods) of Santiago Centro, ?u?oa, Puente Alto and San Bernardo; and the urban radius of the city of Arica.

Chile adds 520 new cases of Covid-19 with controversy due to the exclusion of 250 asymptomatic patients
By Nicol?s Parra

The Ministry of Health (Minsal) reported on Wednesday morning that 520 new cases of Covid-19 were reported, bringing the national total to 14,885 infections.

In addition, 250 patients with no symptoms of coronavirus were reported to have tested positive for PCR.

As explained by the head of the portfolio, Jaime Ma?alich, asymptomatic people "do not generate demand" and this new variable will be incorporated daily into the balance sheets.

This announcement generated controversy between specialists and parliamentarians, since the head of the Minsal initially hinted that the 250 cases were not incorporated into the official total.

But the Ministry of Health clarified to BioBioChile, on Wednesday afternoon, that the 250 infected without symptoms reported this day by Ma?alich were already included in previous reports and, therefore, included in the daily total of infected that reached 520.

In the traditional report from La Moneda, it was detailed that nine people died in the last hours, within which the Gorbea health official was not accounted for, since her death occurred after the closing of the report.

The total of deaths reaches 216 without counting the referred case.

Meanwhile, 67 patients are in a critical state of health, while 8,057 recovered were recorded.

This breakdown by regions regularly published on the Government website was not included on this day.

The cut of the figures is made at 9:00 p.m. the previous day, that is, the numbers released during this day correspond to the cases confirmed until Tuesday at that time.

The dead by Covid-19 today April 30 in Chile reach 227
The country registered the highest increase in infections in one day with 888 new cases; altogether there are 16,023
By EFE April 30, 2020

Santiago de Chile.- The Chilean health authorities registered the greatest increase in infections by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in 24 hours, with 888 new infected, bringing the total number of cases to 16,023 since the start of the pandemic.

The Ministry of Health reported this Thursday of 11 deaths from COVID-19 during the last day, totaling 227 deaths.

As of this Wednesday, the authorities differentiate between those infected who had symptoms and the asymptomatic, since the latter "are not going to put pressure on the healthcare network," explained the Minister of Health, Jaime Ma?alich, at his daily press conference.

Thus, of the 888 infected in the last day, 780 were "sick people" and 108 had no symptoms of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, despite testing positive for the PCR test.

After this rebound, the largest since the pandemic reached the South American country on March 3, the words of the Undersecretary of Health, Paula Daza, were questioned last Tuesday, when she stated that the country is "reaching a plateau of new and confirmed cases. "

On the other hand, 8,580 patients have passed COVID-19, which is equivalent to 63% of all infections, slightly above the 7,216 cases that are still active.

Of the 419 people admitted to intensive care, 323 require mechanical ventilation and 69 are in serious condition.

However, the Ministry of Health detailed that there are still 608 fans available.

Asked about the possibility that a significant proportion of deaths from coronavirus had not been diagnosed, Ma?alich assured that this "does not apply to Chile" because it conducts "more than 6,000 exams per million inhabitants daily."

"We test many people, with a positivity of less than 10%, and in this sense we are extremely reassured that all the information is on the table."

In this sense, the health authorities indicated that a total of 180,517 COVID-19 exams have been carried out, after 7,898 tests were carried out on the last day.

Chile has been under a state of emergency due to a catastrophe since March 18, with a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day throughout the territory, with schools and universities and with all non-essential businesses closed.

The measures decreed so far in the country are framed in the "selective or strategic quarantine", which the Government has carried out since the pandemic arrived in the country.

Said model is based on decreeing or lifting the confinement according to the territorial evolution of infections, for which reason President Sebasti?n Pi?era has ruled out to date the mandatory quarantine throughout the territory.

Chile recorded a daily record of coronavirus infections: 1,427 new cases in the last 24 hoursThe Minister of Health, Jaime Ma?alich, also reported that the deaths are already 247. The total number of infected amounts to 18,435
May 2, 2020

The Minister of Health of Chile, Jaime Ma?alich, has reported this Saturday of 1,427 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a daily record since the start of the epidemic, while the number of deceased reaches 247 after adding thirteen new deaths. .

According to the balance, 80% of new cases come from the Metropolitan Region, which also alone exceeds one thousand daily cases, reaching 1,145. Of this total, 1,246 had symptoms and another 118 were asymptomatic. Nationwide, there are currently 18,435 cases of coronavirus.

Among the dead is a health worker from Santiago de Chile "who died of complications from cardiac surgery, but was examined for coronavirus during the check-up and was positive, despite the fact that he did not make any pulmonary manifestations," Ma?alich said.

The undersecretary of Healthcare Networks of the Ministry, Arturo Z??iga, has specified that there are 425 patients in intensive care, 324 of them with mechanical ventilation and 62 of them in critical condition.

Regarding respirators, the authority explained that to date there are "709 fans available from Arica to Magallanes, to be able to be moved when necessary."

The recovered patients are 9,572 and those who are active are 8,816. "That is, there are a greater number of patients who have already recovered from the disease, compared to those who remain in their contagion window," said Z??iga.

By region and incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants are Magallanes (407), ?uble (147) and Metropolitana (129.8). Behind are La Araucan?a (127.7) and Arica y Parinacota (117.8). The communes that registered the greatest increase in cases are Santiago (280), Quilicura (187) and Independencia (185).

Pi?era: "If we remain quarantined, we will have an unemployment crisis"

The Chilean president defended his plan to gradually reopen the economy to prevent unemployment from rising. "We have to start our society again, because if we all stay in our homes in quarantine we will have a social crisis of unemployment, bankruptcy, which will cause gigantic damage to the quality of life," Pi?era said during the commemoration of May Day.

The president recalled that the new coronavirus brought unemployment in the first quarter of the year to 8.2%, which is the worst record in a decade and an increase of 1% compared to the same period in 2019.

"We know that this figure takes only the last two weeks of March and that the situation has been worsening and, therefore, it is very possible that the true unemployment figure that we have today is much higher," he warned.

Unlike other countries in the region with fewer cases such as Argentina or Colombia, the Government of Chile rejected from the beginning to decree national confinement and to completely close the economy and opted for "selective and strategic quarantines", with movement restrictions that are imposed and they rise weekly in each commune (neighborhood) or city depending on the new infections.

The country, where the first case of COVID-19 was detected on March 3, is under a state of emergency, with a curfew from 22:00 local time, with schools, universities and borders closed, as well as most of the shops, although in the next few days the reopening of some shopping centers is expected.

Chile reaches the coronavirus crisis with an economy dented by the serious protests against inequality that erupted in October and left thirty people dead and thousands injured, in addition to episodes of extreme violence with looting, fires and destruction of public furniture.

The revolts, suspended since mid-March by the health emergency, caused the gross domestic product (GDP) to grow only 1.1% in 2019, far from the 2.5% forecast before the social outbreak and the 4% in 2018.

The Central Bank estimates that Chilean GDP will contract up to 2.5% this year due to the coronavirus, although international organizations place the drop at around 4%.

Quarantine Announced in Various Communes for Covid-19 in Chile
The Minister of Health, Jaime Ma?alich, specified that the new measure is necessary, especially in the communes of Mejillones and Antofagasta.
Published on May 3, 2020 (43 minutes ago)

In recent days, there has been a sustained increase in the number of infections with coronavirus in Chile, so new measures are being taken to curb the pandemic.

The Chilean Health Minister, Jaime Ma?alich, announced this Sunday quarantine in new districts of the country from next Tuesday as a measure to combat Covid-19.

After a sustained increase in cases of contagion in recent days, Ma?alich indicated that from Tuesday at 10:00 PM (local time) the communes of Cerrillos, Quilicura, Recoleta, Santiago Centro enter quarantine; These are located in the metropolitan region as well as the urban areas of Antofagasta and Mejillones.

"In Mejillones and Antofagasta we have a presence of new cases that makes it sensible to take this quarantine measure," he justified.

Ma?alich maintained that "this quarantine has a duration of seven days for each case, which can be extended if the need for health control makes it prudent."

The president, Sebasti?n Pi?era, also spoke about this measure and asked for the maximum cooperation from the citizens to achieve compliance.

“The most important thing is to protect the health of Chileans and to achieve this, the responsible collaboration of all is essential. From this Tuesday there will be quarantine in Cerrillos, Quilicura, Recoleta, Stgo, Antofagasta and Mejillones. I ask our compatriots for their maximum cooperation ”, he expressed.

The Chilean health authorities confirmed 1,228 new cases of Covid-19 in the nation, in addition to 13 new deaths; reason why the highest number of daily deaths is repeated so far in crisis. The total number of infections nationwide reaches 19,663 and the deceased 260.

The Secretary of State explained that this increase in infections is due to the increase in the number of PCR tests being carried out, although "10 percent would be explained by a real increase in cases," he said.
