The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 - a disease caused by the new coronavirus - rose to 37 in Brazil, according to data from the Ministry of Health analyzed until 12:30 pm this Wednesday (11.mar.2020).
Until this Tuesday (March 10, 2020), there were 34 confirmed cases. Two new cases were registered in Rio de Janeiro and one in Rio Grande do Sul.
According to the ministry, there are currently 876 people suspected of having contracted the disease in the country. Another 880 people had their diagnosis ruled out.
On this Wednesday (March 11), WHO (World Health Organization) classified Covid-19 as a pandemic due to its advancement around the world. The pandemic is the recognition that the disease simultaneously infects people around the world and is not restricted to just one area, which increases control and research efforts in all countries.
In a public hearing in the Chamber of Deputies, Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta (Health) said that the classification of the disease does not change anything for Brazil.
“In practice, it doesn't [change]. We already have confirmed cases within the country, we have local transmission, we have no sustained transmission, which may be the next step. And each stage of these has additional measures that are being added ”, he said.
The minister says the organization was slow to declare a pandemic. This, according to the minister, hindered Italy, but not Brazil.
“We were already working like this. We were already considering [people from] America, Europe, Asia, Oceania [as possible suspected cases]. We just weren't considering those from South America and Africa. Now, everyone, ”said the minister.
