    Study: Link Between H1N1
    and Water Wells

    Link: arsenic to more severe
    influence-A H1N1

Published : Sunday, 06 Sep 2009, 4:31 PM CDTMINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Department of Health is urging people to get their private water wells tested. Dangerous levels of arsenic have been found across the state. Arsenic has been linked to the H1N1 flu.
In the age of H1N1 concerns, a new study links arsenic to more severe influenza-A H1N1 symptoms.

The study by Environmental Health Perspectives shows mice with dangerous arsenic levels had more severe flu symptoms. It was done with influenza-A H1N1, not the novel H1N1 that?s going around. But the Department of Health is just as concerned and says stressors during the flu, like poor diet, anxiety and chronic health concerns can all make the flu worse.
The study did not tell say everything we need to know about how arsenic will actually act in the human body.
Kyle LeMay knows how arsenic alone effects the human body.
?Some short term effects the EPA has shown included stomach and gastro problems and skin irritations,? said LeMay. ?Long-term effects include circulatory issues and have been linked to an increase risk of cancer.?
He tests private wells for Culligan and has found many that are dangerously above the EPA?s maximum standard of 10 parts per billion. About 15 percent of private wells in the state of Minnesota are above dangerous levels.
Arsenic is a natural material left by glaciers found across the state and specifically the southwest metro. It?s recommended to get private wells tested every other year and if levels are dangerous, drink bottled water or get a treatment system. The Department of Health's website has numerous options to find healthy solutions.http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/n...s_sept_06_2009

and I responded with a post about the use of Roxarsone in chicken feed:

Thank you for the link to Health Observatory, very useful article. I deal daily with someone who claims factory-farm chicken is perfectly all right to eat.
"I have no idea whether Roxarsone is widely used in Argentina or Canada. It has been banned in Europe for a decade or more, but as far as I know, every commercial producer of broiler/fryers in the US uses it, and I'll be surprised if that isn't true for South America as well."

The amazing thing is why the control bodies, and the folks eating such poultry, didn't demand an exclusion of such venomous toxic compounds from animal feed and in further fertilizators?

"I don't know about", or "who cares about"?
Forgot in 50 years of modern life how country chickens are naturaly feeded ..., or an chemical enjojing, as some do when they goes to chem-cooked meals restorants?

I'm so glad to see that people are being encouraged to check their wells!

Here's an article from March that covers arsenic removal from water. (I was surprised that reverse osmosis wasn't totally efficient.)

I saw today's sad post about the vibrant, very young Alaskan woman that was hit with cancer and while in a prolonged fight with that, the pandemic swine flu took her from this world. It made me wonder about arsenic again since it's both a carcinogen and there is reason to suspect it is a promoter of influenza.

Arsenic Information Related to Ester Dome, Alaska

Arsenic is a concern and interest to many people in the Ester Dome area. Arsenic can be a useful indicator of the differences in geology of the area. It can also be a health concern in drinking water. If you are concerned about Arsenic, the best approach is to be well informed. The below information links provide additional data on Arsenic in general and also specific references to the Fairbanks area. Please let us know if you have additional questions or information you would like to contribute to this site.

I was wondering about environmental problems in the Ukraine since there still are no sequences from the severe cases of flu there.

              Abstract
Ukraine is a highly industrialized country with major environmental problems and deteriorating reproductive health. Heavy metals are known reproductive toxins; a study was undertaken to determine whether they were present at sufficient concentrations to be playing a major role in these health problems. Placental concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, copper, lead, mercury, and zinc were determined in 200 women from the general population of two urban areas of Ukraine, Kyiv and Dniprodzerzhinsk. Arsenic was detected in only 5% of the samples, lead in 22%, and mercury in 28%. Cadmium was detected in almost all samples, with a median of 5.2 ng/g. Concentrations of lead, mercury, and cadmium were low compared to those reported elsewhere, while zinc and copper concentrations were comparable.

Arsenic found in Borjomi won?t affect relations between Georgia and Ukraine 2009-08-28 16:44

The message of Kharkov region administration about arsenic detected in Borjomi won't influence relations of Ukraine and Georgia, stated Ukrainian MP Taras Stetskiv [Our Ukraine- People's Self-Defense] - Novyy Region.

              "I don't believe it's somebody's provocation", he highlighted.

"Irrespective whether arsenic was detected or not drawing it to the level of the two states is humiliating and ridiculous".

"One can't compare categories of quality of some water and relations of Georgia and Ukraine. And one must mot twist facts and present them upside down. This fact must be investigated by other structures", Stetskiv said.

Previously Georgia Times reported that messages about arsenic detected in Borjomi mineral water appeared today on the official site of Kharkov region administration.

According to the administration head Arsen Avakov, he knew about it long ago.

"We sent request to the manufacturer three times: asked for its parameters, but received no answer. Only after that we decided to publish this message", the region head noted.

Looks like a mining operation there from this one below.

I have been lurking for several years and only recently have been reading the forum on a daily basis. I want to THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE GOOD WORK YOU ARE DOING HERE! I am so appreciative when an old thread such as this one gets bumped. I pass the information that I have learned here on to my organic gardening group at our forum. And special thanks to "the doctor" for his post in this thread. I posted his entire post at my group site.

And, oh yes....I have called about an arsenic water test for our well here in Maine.

                Again, THANK YOU FLUTRACKERS!

Welcome Marsey. You could get a nitrate test done at the same time.... (Would do no harm!)
