OK, here is a challenge for you.

I have summarized the information on the 3 deaths that occurred in the Michigan ICU reported today in the CDC's MMWR. Here are the summaries.

44 y/o male, No pre-existing conditions, Fever, productive cough with black/red sputum, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea BMI 50.2, Outcome Death (This matches #4 Detroit, 44-year-old man died 6/15/09 reported 6/18/09)

28 y/o Male, Asthma, presentation: High fever, cough, sore throat that progressed to blood-tinged sputum, decreasing mental status, BMI 34.2, Outcome Death (this matches #3 Macomb County, Madison Heights police officer Ryan Settlemoir, 28 year old man, airlifted to hospital with severe flu symptoms died Thursday 6/11/09 reported 6/12/09 *had asthma and hypertension, but family says overall was healthy, suffered multiple organ failure, Legionnaires? disease ruled out, H1N1 confirmed as cause of death 6/18/09)

43 y/o male, No pre-existing conditions, presentation: Fever, cough, malaise, chills, sweats, BMI 48.7 Outcome Death

The problem is none of our cases match up with the data we have for the 43 y/o male. So, how do we reconcile this data and add this information to the detailed database?

Here is a clue:Illness onset of the 10 patients occurred during May 22--June 13. The median age was 46 years (range: 21--53 years); nine patients were obese, including seven who were extremely obese (Table). In the three fatal cases, the time from illness onset to death ranged from 17 to 30 days

                I got your back AppleB.

It appears that the 8th case was a man in his 50s who had spent several weeks in the hospital, so date of onset was probably early June.

Lansing -- The state's swine flu death toll has reached eight, according to the Michigan Department of Community Health.

The latest death, announced Wednesday on the agency's Web site, is an Oakland County man who who died "earlier this week" after spending three weeks in an unidentified hospital, said Kathy Forzley, manager of the Oakland County Health Division.

Forzley declined to release any details about the man other than to say "he was in his 50s and he did have underlying health conditions" like asthma, obesity or diabetes.

So, it sounds like, by process of elimination that the 43-yr-old male is MI #7. But I will continue looking for confirmation.

Two swine flu deaths in Michigan raise toll to seven

Christina Stolarz / The Detroit News

Lansing -- The swine flu has claimed two other Michigan residents, putting the state's death toll at seven, according to state health officials.

The latest victims are a man in his 40s from Oakland County who died Saturday and another person from Detroit.

More information was not available as the state is no longer releasing information to the public.

"Now, as we accumulate more deaths, which is unfortunate, we're leaving it up to the local county health departments to funnel that information out," said James McCurtis, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Community Health.

Kathy Forzley, manager of the Oakland County Health Division, did not release details about the man but did say "he didn't appear to have any classic underlying health conditions" like asthma, obesity and diabetes. A spokesman from the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion could not be reached.

The man died Saturday the 20th.

No problem. I needed a break from sorting out the deaths in the Buenos Aires province in Argentina. I'm trying to help Shiloh get a list like yours put together for Argentina. It was tough reading through all those Google translated articles, but my Spanglish is better for it.

When they mentioned the 2nd death in the Tri-State they're referring to Indiana/Ohio/Kentucky. The first death was a man in Butler Co., OH in June.

Does that make sense? (I'm tired too...)
