    2014/33: 11?17 August 2014

    Summary
     ILI through sentinel surveillance was reported from 17 out of 20 District Health Boards (DHB) with a
    national consultation rate of 45.3 per 100 000 (137 ILI consultations).
     A total of 776 swabs were received from sentinel (48) and non-sentinel (728) surveillance.
     323 viruses were identified: A(H1N1)pdm09 (168) including nine A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like
    viruses, A(H3N2) (30), A (not sub-typed) (97), and B (not lineage typed) (28).

    INFLUENZA-LIKE ILLNESS SURVEILLANCE
    In the past week, a total of 137 consultations for influenza-like illness (ILI) were reported from 58 general
    practices in 17 out of 20 DHBs. This gives a weekly consultation rate of 45.3 per 100 000 patient
    population. Figure 1 shows the weekly national consultation rate for 2014 in comparison to the average
    epidemic curve in 2000?2013 (excluding 2009). For more details on threshold definitions, see Appendix.
    The current rate of influenza-like illness is above the seasonal threshold.

      well, I assume that the bad seasons 2010 and 2012 dominate the average curve

      2013 was also mild, 2014 a little worse than that

         A total of 674 swabs were received from sentinel (37) and non-sentinel (637) surveillance.
         332 viruses were identified: A(H1N1)pdm09 (109) including six A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like,
        A(H3N2) (39) including one A/Texas/50/2012 (H3N2)-like, A (not sub-typed) (150), and B (not lineage
        typed) (34).

        INFLUENZA-LIKE ILLNESS SURVEILLANCE
        In the past week, a total of 113 consultations for influenza-like illness (ILI) were reported from 60 general
        practices in 17 out of 20 DHBs. This gives a weekly consultation rate of 36.9 per 100 000 patient
        population. Figure 1 shows the weekly national consultation rate for 2014 in comparison to the average
        epidemic curve in 2000?2013 (excluding 2009). For more details on threshold definitions, see Appendix.
        The current rate of influenza-like illness is slightly above the seasonal threshold.

          not typed) (40).

          In the past week, a total of 96 consultations for influenza-like illness (ILI) were reported from 58 general
          practices in 17 out of 20 DHBs. This gives a weekly consultation rate of 31.7 per 100 000 patient

            national consultation rate of 20.3 per 100 000 (59 ILI consultations).
             A total of 549 swabs were received from sentinel (25) and non-sentinel (524) surveillance.
             198 viruses were identified: A(H1N1)pdm09 (31) including eight A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like,
            A(H3N2) (78), A (not sub-typed) (57), and B (32) including three B/Massachusetts/02/2012-like.

            INFLUENZA-LIKE ILLNESS SURVEILLANCE
            In the past week, a total of 59 consultations for influenza-like illness (ILI) were reported from 56 general
            practices in 17 out of 20 DHBs. This gives a weekly consultation rate of 20.3 per 100 000 patient
            population. Figure 1 shows the weekly national consultation rate for 2014 in comparison to the average

               121 viruses were identified: A(H3N2) (54) including two A/Texas/50/2012 (H3N2)-like viruses,
              A(H1N1)pdm09 (21), A (not sub-typed) (28), and B (18) including one B/Yamagata lineage.
