    Epidemiology Unit, Sri Lanka is mainly responsible for the communicable disease control in the country. It’s main activities involve communicable disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, conducting immunization programs, and conducting research to generate data related to infectious disease prevention and control

This would allow an estimate of between 2 and 8 fatal cases in 2018.

      A total of 4,271 dengue cases and around four (4) deaths had been reported during the past 22 days of this year, Epidemiology Unit sources said yesterday.

      A total of 4,271 dengue cases and around four (4) deaths had been reported during the past 22 days of this year, Epidemiology Unit sources said yesterday. According to the sources, the highest number of dengue cases (757) had been reported from the Colombo district while the second highest number (400) had been reported from the Jaffna district. The third highest number of dengue cases (373) had been reported from the Batticaloa district.

        Note 10,927 Cases were eventually reported for Jan 2017, but in my comparisons, I compare currently reported cases with cases that were reported at a similar date on previous years. There is always a lag with reported cases so the tally grows over the next few weeks. Anyone reporting a 50% drop in Dengue cases this year is comparing preliminary figures for this January to final figures for last January, likely a very inaccurate exercise. - Ro

                      Fifteen dengue deaths upto March end

                      A total of 14,000 dengue cases and around 15 dengue deaths had been reported up to March 28, Epidemiology Unit epidemiologists said.

                      According to epidemiologists, the highest number of dengue cases, 2,165 had been reported from the Colombo district while the second highest number, 1,471 had been reported from the Batticaloa district. The third highest number of dengue cases, 1,304 had been reported from the Gampaha district.

                      The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) reported a total of 596 dengue cases during the same period.
