Butuan City/Cagayan De Oro City, Misamis Oriental ? Dengue is now a ?surging disease? that has claimed 17 deaths and downed over 3,300 people in the Caraga Region, health authorities warned, as one of its cities, Tandag in Surigao del Sur, declared a state of calamity yesterday.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP or City Council) of Tandag has the city under a state of calamity in the wake of rising dengue cases recorded in 18 of its 21 barangays.

Dengue cases down in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY, August 12 -? Ninety seven dengue cases have been recorded for the period January to June this year, compared to 373 dengue cases in the same period last year, showing a significant decrease of 73.99 percent.
In an interview today, August 12, city medical officer Donnabel Tubera said based on a report, most of the dengue cases are aged 20 to 29 years old and majority of them are males.
In spite of this, there is no fatality reported, stressed Tubera.

Dengue cases in Aklan still on the rise

KALIBO, Aklan, August 13 (PIA6) -- Cases of dengue continue to increase in the province of Aklan with those who have gotten sick of the mosquito-borne disease from January to July 29 of this year here reaching 657.
This period?s cases, if compared to those last year for the same period, is 41.90% higher, based on records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Meanwhile, in a recent meeting to reorganize the Aklan Blood Coordinating Council (ABCC) and to campaign for sustained blood collection for use of dengue victims and other emergency cases, Dr. Cornelio Cuachon, Provincial Health Officer I revealed that one Aklanon already died of dengue last week.
The victim, based on local media reports, is said to be a third year college student and the son of a midwife working in a town here.
