    Import of poultry meat and products from areas in Hungary and Poland suspended​

    The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (February 6) that in view of notifications from the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Bács-Kiskun County in Hungary and the Żnin District of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region in Poland respectively, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the above-mentioned areas with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

    A CFS spokesman said that Hong Kong has currently established a protocol with Hungary for the import of poultry meat but not for poultry eggs. According to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 270 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Hungary, and about 2 890 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Poland last year.

    "The CFS has contacted the Hungarian and Polish authorities over the issues and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreaks. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said​

      Import of poultry meat and products from Province of Pisa of Toscana Region in Italy suspended​

      The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (February 9) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Province of Pisa of Toscana Region in Italy, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

      A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 90 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and about 10 000 poultry eggs from Italy last year.

      "The CFS has contacted the Italian authority over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreak. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.​

        The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (February 11) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Guldborgsund Municipality in Denmark, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

        A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 450 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and about 210 000 poultry eggs from Denmark last year.

          The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (February 12) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Legnica District of Dolnośląskie Region in Poland, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

          A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 2 890 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Poland last year.

                A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 450 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and about 210 000 poultry eggs from Denmark; about 2 890 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Poland; about 54 830 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 4.33 million poultry eggs from the US; and about 380 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 30.7 million poultry eggs from Korea last year.
