    The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (December 2) that in view of notifications from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in areas in the Netherlands, the United States (US) and Poland, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the relevant areas with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

    A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 150 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from the Netherlands; about 40 060 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 2.62 million poultry eggs from the US; and about 1 870 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Poland in the first nine months of this year.

    "The CFS has contacted the Dutch, American and Polish authorities over the issues and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreaks. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.​

        Import of poultry eggs from Udham Singh Nagar District of Uttarakhand State in India suspended​

        The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (December 4) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Udham Singh Nagar District of Uttarakhand State in India, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry eggs from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

        A CFS spokesman said that Hong Kong has currently established a protocol with India for the import of poultry eggs but not for poultry meat.According to the Census and Statistics Department, no eggs were imported into Hong Kong from India in the first nine months of this year.

        "The CFS has contacted the Indian authority over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreak. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.​

          The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (December 8) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Yvelines Department in France, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products, including poultry eggs, from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

          A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 830 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 50 000 poultry eggs from France in the first nine months of this year.

          "The CFS has contacted the French authority over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreak. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.

            The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (December 9) that in view of notifications from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the District of Viersen of the State of Nordrhein-Westfalen in Germany, the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District of the Province of British Columbia in Canada, and the East Cambridgeshire District of Cambridgeshire County and the Swale District of Kent County in the United Kingdom (UK), the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the above-mentioned areas with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

            A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, in the first nine months of this year, while no poultry meat or eggs were imported into Hong Kong from Canada, Hong Kong imported about 60 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Germany, and about 770 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 1.17 million poultry eggs from the UK.

              The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (December 10) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Mariagerfjord Municipality in Denmark, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

                A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 1 870 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Poland and about 150 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from the Netherlands in the first nine months of this year.
